Didn't it rain children
Talk about rain oh my Lord
Didn't it fall didn't it fall
Didn't it fall my Lord didn't it rain
Didn't it rain children
Talk about rain oh my Lord
Didn't it fall didn't it fall
Didn't it fll my Lord didn't it rain
Oh it rained forty days
And it rained forty nights
There was no land no where in sight
God send the angel to spread the news
He haste his wings and away he flew
To the East to the West
To the North to the South
All day all night how it rained how it rained
Didn't it rain children
Talk about rain oh my Lord
Didn't it fall didn't it fall
Didn't it fall my Lord didn't it rain
Some at the window some at the door
Some said Noah can't you take a little more
No no said Noah no no my friends
The nature got to keep you can't get in
I told you I told you a long time ago
You wouldn't hear me you disobey me
Lord send the angel a warning to you
It began to rain and now you are through
Well it rained forty days
Forty nights without stopping
Noah was glad
When the rain stopped dropping
Knock at the window knock at the door
Come on brother Noah
Can't you take any more
No no my brothers you are full of sin
God has the key you can't get in
Would you listen how it rained
Didn't it rain children
Talk about rain oh my Lord
Didn't it fall didn't it fall
Didn't it fall my Lord didn't it rain
Didn't it rain children
Talk about rain oh my Lord
Didn't it fall didn't it fall
Didn't it fall my Lord didn't it rain

People don’t realize just how important and revolutionary this woman truly was. She was the first person ever to combine rock and roll with gospel, while also being one of the first to use guitar distortion. Even Eric Clapton took inspiration from her. This woman is incredible and up there with the very best.
@nikibronson133

My guy…she didn’t “combine rock and roll”… *She pioneered it. She is considered the MOTHER of Rock and Roll. It didn’t exist yet and she contributed MASSIVELY to its creation.* Your heart is in the right place but the facts are wrong. Also look up Robert Johnson. Pioneered Guitar playing.
@gyozanomics

I'm not going to nit pick that you said rock n roll instead of the blues but the blues, and by consequence rock n roll, have always been inexorably linked to gospel blind willie johnson was recording both in the late 20s so if you meant the first person to record gospel and blues, she's not the first but she's not too far behind but if you meant first person to play gospel and blues, she's not even close at all blues and gospel being sung together might be something that goes back to the days of slavery

Sister Rosetta Tharpe was a very popular gospel artist and evangelist during the 1930's and 1940's playing a jazzy blues on an acoustic guitar. She was one of two gospel singers that recorded records for the troops during WW2. She was gifted one of the first electric guitars made to create the riffs and power chords that were copied by the early rock and roll artists. She fell into obscurity like the rest of the jazz artists when tastes in popular music changed. Her life history is interesting to read. Born in Cotton Plant, Arkansas to grow up in Chicago then performing at the clubs in Harlem while still performing gospel music.

However Chuck Berry HIMSELF said his entire career was “one long Sister Rosetta Tharpe impersonation.” On stage, she did an early version of Berry's duckwalk, but all you need to hear is the guitar introduction to Sister Rosetta's 1947 hit “The Lord Followed Me” to recognize Chuck's musical debt to her. ❤

The Rock and Rock Hall of Fame people are a clicky bunch of out-of-touch idiots. Convincing these dullards that a certain band's music is good enough is to give them too much power, no thanks. To be fair, Tharpe is different because in that category (artists who predate rock 'n roll) they have honored other legit musicians - still, 30-something years to get the inducted is too long. For bands like Rush, their talent and contribution wasn't obvious enough to the committee that they have to be pressured to induct them, to me that's so foolish it's beyond contempt. What's the point? Unfortunately, most rock and roll bands want the cred of being inducted. To me, it means nothing.

I agree she should get utmost love and recognition. But I don't agree with your use of the term "real creator". "Rock n roll" was more of a stage/era of evolution (generally attributed to the 1950s) than an "invention". Many musicians and styles "created" it.
@tony.h321
@tony.h321 Год назад
@@snakejuce Chuck Berry is called the "the father of rock n roll" because it was his popular faster-paced style that caused the music to sky-rocket during the 50s. Which led to the coining of the term "rock n roll". But its one of those things that can easily be debated. There is no law stating that the "honour" must go to Chuck Berry. Or that you have to see it as a single honour. In the end of the day, both Chuck Berry and Sister Rosetta Tharpe (and many others) "created" it. One could say Chuck Berry was the daddy, Sister Rosetta Tharpe was the mommy, and Robert Johnson was the granddaddy, etc. etc. but that sort of labelling is always going to be an over-simplification, and leave out many others who also deserve recognition.

The day my Nanny was buried in the family plot at Northwood Cemetery in Philadelphia, I looked over at a tombstone, and it was Sister Rosetta's grave. I was sad but became happy to see her grave knowing her history in music. I've been back to visit her and my family.

@harrytf-mm8nh hello and no worries 🙂. Yes, I'm a fan of hers. I was lucky enough to have a cool dad who had a cool record collection, and he had her stuff.

I never heard of this woman before now. Wow. Every now and then, inexplicably, the RU-vid algorithm actually does something amazing. I type this on December 25th while on the bus back from my gf's parent's house. RU-vid really gave me a Christmas gift.
