I never did meet this wonderful sister act, but when Joni passed away, it was like I lost my own sister. I do not know why, but she was so young and I feel such a loss when someone so young passes. Rest in Peace Joni!
What a fabulous entrance! Always an all-time classic 80's song! We sing this at parties and groups I attend! We've even sung it in church! Thank you, Sister Sledge!!

A #1 hit for Sister Sledge on the Rhythm & Blues charts. It was the 435th #1 R&B song of the Rock Era. It also hit #2 on the Top 40 charts, and #1 on both the Hot Dance Club Play charts and in Canada.

On this day in 1979 {June 9th} "We Are Family" reached #1 {for 1 week} on Billboard's R&B chart... About five weeks earlier on April 28th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; eventually it peaked at #2 {for 2 weeks} and spent 19 weeks in the Top 100...
To all my sisters, sister in laws brothers neices NEPHEWS cousins through thick n thin no matter how far apart we are, we are as one, with loving hearts and loving arms to give big hugs when required and to know that love is always there without a word being spoken. I love my family all of you past n present and I know you love me, thats why I will never be alone even when you think I am ;-)
They were so classy and they didn’t have to camouflage their talent by taking off their clothes they were truly an examples and had the full package beautiful, elegant and talented.
I was 17 years old in 1980. Back then I was listening to Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Yes etc... I have no idea what made me think of this song all of a sudden and look it up. Funny how music brings back memories of times you never thought you had... even from a lifetime ago.
Lovely performance. And titillating Motown arrangement. Love the 60s girl group fashion and moves. But, man, I sure do miss those harmonies. I was waiting for 'em! 🤔😒😝
