Texas A&M Forest Service hosted the 2nd annual Sisters in Fire event at the City of Abilene, Fire Department Training Facility. Thirty-five 7th to 12th grade girls from 15 counties participated in the hands-on learning experience exploring wildfire and emergency response, all led by Texas’ top women leaders in wildland firefighting.
Girls learned how to put out fires with engines and bulldozers, the safe way to cut down a tree and other important parts of being a member of a wildland firefighting crew.
The 2022 event was in cooperation with Texas Parks and Wildlife, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Austin Fire Department, Abilene Fire Department and the Texas Nature Conservancy.
