If you want to master Topography in Revit, we offer a full Site Design and Coordination Course for Revit. You can find it here: balkanarchitect.com/p/site-design-coordination-in-revit
I just subscribed to your channel today n watched a few videos of yours. I m a very experienced Autocad 2d user but had just started to learn revit. I just want to compliment you on your video clips n tips on Revit. It is v well produced n the steps n audio instructions are clear. Thank you v much. From Cy Singapore
Interesting approach, shame about the roof categories having to be used for mass by face but makes sense given the limitations of the software. An alternative approach I'm going to run a tutorial on will be to use dynamo to 'drape' a floor with sub-points onto the topo using Dynamo, cut out the ground below and lower by a set amount to another level and use slab edges for the kerb profile.
theres an autodesk plug in called site designer for revit, i havent tried it but it looks like it can create roads and also terraform topography to suit them
Thanks! Looks really nice. To save time, demonstrate the "tab trick" while using pick lines or clicking edges for the fascia. When fascia command is active, simply hover over a line or edge and press tab and it will select all joined lines. Then left-click and all the fascia are created at the same time :)
Thanks man you're a lifesaver!, I was just about to study how to make these. I usually use modify component floor because I don't like how toposurface command only generates a "surface" not a solid. What's your opinion?
Interesting work around to draw this in Revit. Realistically it would be much, much faster and easier to draw the road in Civil 3D then bring that in to Revit as an In Place Mass.
Just to add. I tried with split surface but it doesnt work properly when you have too many sidewalks or elements next to each other, the pick up lines with the topography was a nightmare to get the lines, i got al type of errors. I fix it by using sub-region instead of split surfaces and it worked like a charm. Same method but using sub-region.
cool, but how well does this method work on uneven terrains with high, changing slopes? Att that point are you better off just breaking the surface up into sub surfaces and then grading?
I'm having a problem doing this, somehow when I try to Split the Surface, it says is not posible because the Split Surface must be in two equal parts. I tried to do it with Subregions, but then i cannot export and import properly… any Ideas? Thanks! Aaaaaah and...Your videos are the best!
you better use split surface otherwise you cannot define as a different surface. To split a toposurface into more than 2 surfaces you just use split surface command multiple times starting from splitting into 2 :(
@@simgegider6447 can u help me with massing of roof for the side walk. Actually it is blacked out as I try to make selection of the sidewalk mass. And hence roof can't be created
@@jedsanford7879 you are a HERO, i kept having the same problems, checked everything... (that darn pin button i always forget about) turns out you were correct. worked like a charm that time THANK YOU.
This all makes sense, but I am not sure if this is what someone would do in a production environment? Correct me if I am wrong. It just seems this is good for a rendering if that is what you are using revit for. Don't get me wrong, this was super helpful and very clear!
I discovered that you don’t have to flatten the site cad from Autocad. Place points at the center of the elevation markers in AutoCAD then import to revit. Add topo surface then import points. At the dialogue box import the layer containing the points that you imported. This will form a surface. If the surface is too high or low , go to elevation and drag it to the light level and voila. You’ll can also align your surface in the x or y in the same way.
Hola desde México! Your tutorials are always very usefull but I have problems making the roof of the sidewalk, i dont know if a have miss something but when i try to select the isoled sidewalk it doesnt select anything and dont have the option for create the roof. Hope you can help me. first of all, Thanks ♥
this method didn't work for me. In Revit 2019, when attempting to create a mass with the imported CAD file, it prompted that the 'mass only contains mesh geometry and cant be used to create volumes". If someone had the same problem and already found a solution, pls send a suggestion
Using roof, I think that's not the best way to model a side walk and roads. 1) Interior edges always visible 2) side walk and roads can not always follow topography tightly
In realistic style interior edges are always visible (you can't hide them) the second reason is the profile of road may not follow the topography (profile of project) ( excuse me for my English it's not well like french)
I can't believe Revit exists for so long and it's still so awkward creating sites with realistic road and curb.. I usually use floor elemnts and force it on site with pick points. BTW - how do you add road markings and lines? If you have more then one lane it looks dull. How would you add a center line or dashed lines going around the road?..
That is my thought as well . If your road cuts across a topo that is sloping the road should still be flat in section but sloping with the topo in its linear direction.
If I were you I'd create a custom railing for the street lines. You can force a railing to attach to a surface and if you can get it right it'll look great. You'll just have to get good at creating railings
Thank you. You are superb! If ever there is a way we can be in contact. Please advice. The only Tutorial missing on RU-vid and I was looking for! My deep gratitude. Stephan Civil Engineer.
Thanks for tutorial. I studied Revit before but the model we build was a building- is this also good for landscape and terrain modelling? I’m trying to decide between revit vs. Rhino for landscape architecture. Thanks
Thanks so much for all of your tutorials, But i am facing a problem that the layout when t insert the plan back from AutoCAD is changed, please feed me back.
to say its an architecture program, you'd think there would be more site tools to create curbs pavement etc instead of resorting to cheating and using a mass and roof tools
I used revit 2019. When I place the mass, I take warning (Mass contains only mesh geometry, which can’t be used to compute Mass Floors, volume, or surface area.). Mass is being deleted. How can I solve this ?
