This is really fascinating!; i studied historical pigment in grad school, even recreated some of it; the closest modern pigments to Tyrian purple are Cobalt purple or Egyptian purple; both are $$$ even in modern times real purple is luxury
Wow that sounds like a cool process getting to recreate historical pigments! Ill have to have a read into the Egyptian purple too. Thanks for watching and thanks for the info. I really appreciate it!
I’ll have to do a dedicated video on him soon! Cheers for watching Neal. You also killed the Danny Jones interview. You just kept pulling out source after source. Great job
Excellent detective work, Auld Boy! I had no idea that in the 3rd Century beyond Hadrian's Wall there were Roman trading posts with bathhouses where they took tyrian purple and ingested and used it for... well you can fill in the rest, I just don't want to be censored! 😩
Thats some lovely feedback to receive so thank you very much. Im pleased you enjoyed the production and its great to have you as a subscriber. Thankyou!
Thanks Snappy. It was nice for me to be able to showcase the area I grew up in. Thoroughly enjoyed it and I’m hoping to go back at the end of the year. Thanks for watching and pleased you enjoyed it 😊
His magic spear was voice activated friend, he could say a name and it would "Fly from his hand, pierce their neck, and then return to his hand". I'm a new sub, fascinating stuff brother
Such a tedious job on the excavation sites. (exciting they found a cat's footprint!) I would love to put my eyes and hands on the pottery and bones. Just fascinating. I wonder how much of the Tyrrhenian purple they found. I can just imagine the ground you are standing on at that time was so beautiful. Thanks Auld Boy! You are so lucky!
Yes I have a lot of respect for the ladies who were doing the sieving. They were so focussed the whole time! The cats footprint made me laugh..it seems cats have been doing the same thing for a very long time..mine used to always walk across me when doing work or eating! Ill keep everyone updated with future finds. Thanks for watching!
It was great meeting you too! I had a fantastic experience. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m pleased that came over in the video. Thanks for the conversation on site too. Hopefully I will see you again back on site later in the year 😊👍
Jimi's lyrics touched on ancient prophecies, helping to shed light on certain numbers, but so do many others, woven into the tapestry of modern culture. Me thinks Jimi's demise was orchestrated.
Such an amazing site. Hadn’t seen its location on the island before this. Love how close to the border it is. I have always felt like something was going on in the north, like trade, that hasn’t yet been identified or established in the archaeology. Their resistance was far too clever to just be chalked off as unruly barbarians who are better off left alone. You also wouldn’t build a guarded border the width of the island for protection if your opponents were not highly formidable. I believe there had to be a trade network out of Scotland. It could have been something like education they offered, not just material goods. But how could you go about finding evidence of something like education in the archaeology records from the Iron Age, especially without knowing what they may have been teaching?
Im pleased its given you some more context to where the site is located! Its really close to the solway firth as well, which is a big sand flat where the major rivers enter into the sea..so it would certainly make for good access to the open sea and there are many harbour towns in the area. There was also a neolithic axe "factory" in the lakes..a little further south but they have been found in Ireland and right down on the south coast..so trade seems to have been occurring in the area for a long time! The Britons were also located as far north as Dumbarton too, and I have also wondered about the motivation behind building such a wall. The main obstacle is the lack of written records..we can only hope something is uncovered which gives us some concrete evidence. Im really pleased you enjoyed seeing the site and the area. I really enjoyed making this kind of video so Im definitely up for making more if there are any other sites of interest! Thanks for watching and for all the continued support!
@@chuckcomstock4747 this interview with the site manager from last week was when he first told me they found a second piece, I don’t think it’s made the media yet so I was super excited. I’m excited to see what else they find on the next dig season. Cheers for watching, hail Medea!
@@auld_boy yeah, there was disproportionate amount of purple in the one I went to, personally brother, I can't wait for the day the Pzizer advert for the superbowl is "Warning, side effects may include a complete loss of fear of death, ascension to non coporeal realms and true gnosis" 😂
Yes the thought had crossed my mind. Especially as woad was used as a dye as well. And quite a lot of these dyes do have psychoactive properties. Ive seen some people say it’s connected to Odín as Odín comes from Proto Germanic Wōðanaz, which interestingly enough, meaning 'lord of frenzy', or 'leader of the possessed'. Another thread I’ll have to investigate! Thanks for watching and for sharing your thoughts.
@@occultexaminer yea I certainly will do an episode on them at some point! They are a rather enigmatic group. Thanks for the kind words, I’m pleased it’s helping ease the homesickness! Thanks again for all the support 😊
@@josiahz21 yeah for sure. I did a comparison of the Etruscan and Norse rites and surprisingly, the authors of the Norse equivalent of the LSJ..they make a LOT of connections with the Greek mysteries. The series is called Aiser Vs Aesir if you are interested. Cheers!
Not sure about "strength of Lugus," but maybe so. In Latin, it could mean something more like "broken walls," which seems like a perfectly fine name for a ruined fortress. Since it was the Romans who named it Luguvalium, perhaps the shortest path to the meaning is the correct one. 🤷♂ FWIW, (if Celtic) they say the root (lug) would not be linked to IE / PIE roots for "light," because that doesn't match the observed linguistic patterns.
Here’s what the source says but I suspect it may be relating to walls too as it was a walled city: “Another type of name is very common in Gaul, though rare in Britain, namely those with a suffix in *-acon, Latinised -dcum, which is added to a personal name to designate an estate belonging to the man in question.1 An example is the Gallo-Roman Juliacum, whence French Juillac, Juille, etc., meaning “ estate of Julius ”. The Romano-British Eburacum (AI., Rav.), York, may be such a form, meaning “ estate of Eburos ”.2 The Celtic adjectival and derivative suffix *-io is used in Gaulish in a similar way ; 3 this is probably to be seen in Britain in Branogenium (Rav. ; Ptolemy has Bpavoyevtov and Bpavvoyeviov, the latter being accepted by Muller but less correct). This looks like a placename derived from Brit. *Branoge7ios, “ Born of the Raven (-God) ”, a common type of Celtic name. So too with Rom. -Brit. Luguvalium (AI. ; var. Luguvallum; Rav. Lagubalium), Carlisle, which, as I have shown elsewhere,4 is probably from a personal name Brit. * Luguualos, “ He whose strength is like (the god) Lugus ”, or “ Strong in (the god) Lugus ”. In still trying to find the other source of his he references which sounds like it gives the breakdown. I’ll update you when I find it!
I’m also aware many of these places are built on top of Brittonic sites such as York so this castle may (and this is wild speculation on my part) be the original site. They were turning up bits of flint on the Roman dig so the area was clearly inhabited for a long time.. cheers for your insight and thanks for watching.
Good work… Question from a Psychologist. Who would dare take the immensely expensive and hallowed treasure, of a nearby Emperor’s Estate…..……and stick it doon a drain, repeatedly…?
Thanks for the kind words! Yes it’s certainly an enigma. Apparently a lot of the finds were made there. The three dismembered bodies have a story to tell as well. Looking forward to seeing what else turns up on the next dig season!
@@auld_boy You are veery welcome, since obviously you are very professional in the excellent work you do. However, since I have other Discipline’s I can afford to offer more cavalier interpretations. However, professionally, I look at scenarios from the perspective of noting triggering factors for abnormal behaviours, in any environment. Tearing up the bodies of three individuals, is a barbaric act, but in the context of a war, with the well recorded, stated intentions of the genocidal Emperor Severus, it would not be out of the general context of extreme fear, on both sides.
@Auldboy just curious.... In the video you show artifacts that were found.... I'm wondering why they showed a cuneiform tablet..... I'm no expert but those tables don't show up often especially in a dig where you were.... Any ideas as to what or why it was shown
Hi there, do you mean the piece that was in the drawers? I believe they said it was a piece of Roman pottery if memory serves me. Im not an expert on that front unfortunately though! Thanks for watching.
So called pagans in Ireland have been singing this song before the written word. They're still singing it. To everyone whose invaded, they heard the song of their own history and refused to listen. Now look at the mess we're in. Excuse the 27 comments lol
