In this review I'm taking a look at the Sitka Dakota Hoody. I purchased this hoodie last year, and used it through most of the 2016 duck hunting season.
Keep your eyes open for Sitka on Sale, you can often find items at a pretty big discount.

Thanks for including the temperatures you hunted in while wearing the jacket

The best sitka review videos in my opinion include the temperatures you would use the item in as well as the system you integrate it into. What you layer over and under the one being reviewed helps a lot.

Longer in-depth reviews are awesome usually the brand will release a quick 2 min review so it's nice when youtubers really dive into it

More Sitka reviews! As far as length goes, if I’m going to spend hundreds on a hoodie, shell, etc I’d like to see a detailed review. I’m more than happy to spend 10 mins watching a great in-depth review before spending that kind of money.

I am one of those people with the long torso. Thanks for mentioning that. It was valuable information in my decision making

Great review, thanks! I have been looking at this for bowhunting, I like the setup. Watching your video, I can hear the noise coming from that jacket. Sounds loud, but that might just be the microphone picking it up.
@DrakeValleyOutdoors

+Whitetail Scout It is kind of noisy. Not an issue in the duck blind, but in a stand.. you might have problems.

This was a good middle-length video. Lots of information without rambling on forever. I hate really short reviews because they are really just a commercial.

Thank you very much for the feedback. I'm trying to shoot for 5-10 minutes on these videos. I recorded a video last week on Texas rigging, but I haven't fully edited it yet. I may just end up re-doing it. It was more of a "what is texas rigging" and what are the pros and cons.. but I feel like it's a little too much talking that might bore people. I feel like people might just want a quick 2-3 minute video showing more of the "how-to" on the way I setup my Texas rigs, but that's why I ask these questions. I love hearing your guys' feedback.

Can you layer over the Dakota Hoodie or is it mostly considered an outer wear. I’m trying do decide between the Dakota Hoodie and the Duck Oven. Would like to hear your thoughts on which one you think would be a Breyer but/more versatile.
@DrakeValleyOutdoors
@DrakeValleyOutdoors 5 лет назад
Yes, you can layer over it. I wear my Delta over it all the time. Sometimes it’s annoying having a hood on both jackets, but it’s usually not bad. The duck oven will definitely be better for layering, but if I had to choose between one or the other, I’d take the Dakota.

What size is this jacket that you are wearing. I am 5'10" and 165 pounds. Ive heard this stuff runs a tad small. I usually wear a large and what you are wearing looks ideal to what i am looking for.
@BellMotorsports47
@BellMotorsports47 6 лет назад
Seth Zimmerman they run a true fit. If you regularly wear a large it will fit however it will be snugg. If you like a loose fit I'd go with a XL

Yeah, I plan on doing more. I need to do an update on my gloves, and might revisit the Delta Wading Jacket as well as my Gradient pants. That's about all I really have right now. I do plan on buying some of their new products for this year in July when they should be available. I have my eye on the Gradient Hoody, Sling Choke pack and Possibly the Dakota pants.

So would i be better off buying the hudson jacket+the core midweight long sleeve, so that i dont have to get the dakota+delta wading jacket????? Cheaper that way and does the same thing
@DrakeValleyOutdoors
@DrakeValleyOutdoors 4 года назад
All depends on the climates you typically hunt. I like the Delta because there is no insulation at all. I hunt September through February. In September it can be 80-90 degrees. On a day like that, even in the morning, you'd die in a Hudson. It's not uncommon for me to hunt early season with 80s and rain, the Delta is perfect for that. With the Delta I can wear it Sep-February and just change my layering underneath as needed. You can do the same with a Hudson, you just won't want to be using it if you hunt warm weather.
@018132

@@DrakeValleyOutdoors in California season starts mid October w/ temps in mid-high 80's. Coldest days of the season december-january probably high 30's-low 40's
@DrakeValleyOutdoors
@DrakeValleyOutdoors 4 года назад
I'd personally go the route of the Delta if you hunt any of those early season days in the 80s and are worried about rain. A Hudson is just going to be too warm for those days. And I'd probably go with a duck oven underneath for the later season. I use the Dakota over the Duck Oven just because I like the wear the Delta by itself when its not rainy.
@018132
@018132 4 года назад
@@DrakeValleyOutdoors yea but the main use of it will be for the later part of the season. Early season i just rock with the walmart stuf(long sleeve t-shirt). In cali its almost always warm w/ no rain during early season then slow-vember kicks in and duck action doesnt pick up til December(wen it gets cold)

What size is your jacket with you being 5”11?
@DrakeValleyOutdoors
@DrakeValleyOutdoors 2 года назад
If you are looking for sizing, I would go more off of your weight rather than height. I was very skinny at the time, and could wear a small. I've since added weight, and wear a medium and could maybe even fit a large.

Should I get the Hudson over this? I live in east Texas it gets pretty cold along with rain

@DrakeValleyOutdoors
@DrakeValleyOutdoors 7 лет назад
How cold are you talking? And how many of your hunts are cold vs warm/mild days? I don't have the Hudson, and I haven't seen it in person.. so I won't tell you to get one over the other, but I will explain my thoughts on them to maybe help you decide. The Hudson is going to be more waterproof than the Dakota. Warmth wise, I'm not sure which would be warmer. I bet they would be close. They are two completely different pieces though. The Hudson is more of a waterproof shell with built in insulation, but also built to allow more insulation layers underneath. The Dakota is an insulation piece, that I have seen many guys wear underneath a Hudson (typically up north in really cold climates). In Texas, I'm guessing its not quite as cold as here.. and probably not cold quite as long. Even still, I personally feel the Delta Wading Jacket is a better fit for me than the Hudson, because I can wear it from teal season, all the way through cold late season days just by adding more insulation layers as it gets colder. With a Hudson, you're gonna probably be leaving it at home till it starts getting pretty darn chilly. I wear my Delta all year as a rain jacket. I break out the Dakota once it starts getting chilly at night, and add the Delta when it gets wet.

Drake Valley Outdoors maybe I'm over exaggerating, most of the time it's in the 40's. Lower 30's in the mornings. I planned on using it twice a week during duck season and some deer hunting.
@DrakeValleyOutdoors
@DrakeValleyOutdoors 7 лет назад
If I was in Texas, I would own a Delta plus one insulation jacket whether its a Dakota, Duck Oven or Fahrenheit. For deer hunting though, the Hudson or Delta are going to be noisy.. very similar to the noise a wind breaker jacket would make.

I got a Dakota hoodie for $189 on tactical suppliers. The only thing I don't like about it is the size and the arms feel a bit short. I should of got a Xl instead of L but I couldn't pass up the price
@DrakeValleyOutdoors
@DrakeValleyOutdoors 7 лет назад
Yeah, I could see how the sleeves could be a little short for some people, but I think there is a reason they come right to the wrist and not past it. I had sell my first Dakota hoody and get the next size down because the sleeves were past my wrist it caused bunching in the sleeve that was very uncomfortable. That's why I wish they had tall sizing for guys with longer arms and torsos. For me, most of my height comes from my leg length, so the shorter jackets don't bother me. However, I do struggle with pants being too short.

@DrakeValleyOutdoors

The Dakota Hoody is not fully waterproof like the Delta jacket. It is highly water resistant though. I've accidentally dipped my elbow in the water many times, and it never gets the inner layer wet. The outside of the jacket will feel wet though.
