I love black dogs. I adopted a black Labrador Retriever 8 years ago from my local humane society who had severe heart worms which costed us a lot of money but she is definitely well worth the price. She is 10 years old already. I wish more people would adopt black dogs. They are great pups.

We lost Sophie last year. She was part husky. Very sweet. Treat loving. Only barked when threat of danger. Got her from an elderly lady who could not keep her because of health reasons. She is pictured with me in thumb nail. We now have a German long haired pointer from a rescue in Ely Mn. He is under two years old and his name is Wally

I had a rescue cat for 18 years named Nunzio. He passed last year. I told my vet that Nunz made me a better person and he got tears in his eyes. I was so lucky to be Nunzio’s human that long.

It took me ten years to get over losing my last dog. I couldn't talk about without crying my eyes out. She was the most beautiful, sweet Rottweiler. She was diagnosed with leukaemia, extremely rare in a dog apparently.

A year? Not so long, Rocky... My Winnie (a beautiful golden Lhasa Apso ) has been gone for 24 years and I still miss her every day. She is part of me. She will always be with me...Flip will be with you forever...and that is such a blessing...love your videos -keep up the good work!

There’s no such a thing as “just a dog” or “just a cat”. They are a part of you, part of your life.

Anyone who says "it's just a pet (insert specifies)" has never had or loved one - and is clueless! I have lost more than most folks have had since I rescue, foster, foster fail, etc. I grieve each one, but some are harder than others. When you lose someone you love, human or animal, You Never Get Over It. It gets "easier" as time goes on, but it never goes away! And you never know what or when a trigger will kick in. I still remember the birthdays of many of mine from 30 years ago, and still have a "hard time" on those days. If I had to do it all over again, would I? Absolutely! Every single one of my babies is worth it!

There are some animal companions that become your soul mate, they never die because as long as you remember them they will remain alive in your heart and they just live on another plane of existence watching over you until you can be reunited once again. I've been lucky enough to have several animal companions like that. I try to get animals from shelters and I love black animals, it worth going several times and see if any animal just calls to you, not because of the way they look but because you feel that pull.

Oh, Rocky! You could never know how much I needed to hear the story about the passing of a pet becoming a cloud. We just had to say goodbye to our 18 year old cat only 4 months after having to do the same to her 17 year old sister cat. I’ve been struggling so much since her passing last Thursday. The only thing that seems to help is the story about the rainbow bridge. But now I have another story. THANKS!!!

My boy, Jack (profile photo), lived in a kennel on an Amish farm as a breeder dog for 5 years. I’ll have him for a year on the 15th of July. The Amish relinquished him to the vet for dental work. Some teeth in the top front were removed between both canines. They told the vet if he wasn’t placed by Friday (day given), that he was to be euthanized. Veterinarian’s office found a rescue and a lady that fosters dogs took him in. She had my boy for 4 months before I adopted him. ❤ Anyways…he didn’t play much with toys until just one day I had these tiny little tennis balls for small dogs laying on the floor and he just went nuts over them. Now he’s got his own little bucket of toys that he scatters all over the floor on a daily basis! I just love to see that. Jacks little toy clutter everywhere! ❤ That sweet girl with you right now probably never got to play with a toy or is just more interested in getting the heck out of the kennel. I pray that sweet girl finds her forever family soon! She’s young and healthy and even looks to be probably very kid friendly. ❤ Such a sweet, sweet girl. ❤

Ahh the story got me crying, losing pets, losing homes, losing people, it's all been hard, the different way of thinking about all those losses opened up a floodgate for me. Thank you Rocky for all that you do for the dogs and for us.

We said goodbye to Mums 20 year old Kitty yesterday too. They are just all so much part of heart, it is so hard when they cross the rainbow bridge. Hugs and love sent to you for the first anniversary of his passing mate. 💜🙏💜

After my last dog's unexpected passing, it took me 6 years to include another one into my family. What I learned from her passing was that it's SUPER hard to process the loss of a non-verbal relationship. There are aspects of processing that sort of grief that don't have words attached to it, it's very amorphous, like peeling an onion's layers, each a mystery. I never realized the amount of feelings of safety and emotional support my last dog provided for me (and I HOPE for her as well). I'm now approaching the end of life stages with the dog that is part of the family now, I feel like I'm experiencing a sort of pre-grief because I know the amount of pain and loss I will be feeling in the future.

Wiggles as a name is good. Unfortunately I had to give up and rehome my Wiggles when my wife passed. I know he's in a better home than I could give him.

I hope and pray that Serenity gets rescued by her family. I think she got lost because although she is nervous she is not shut down like most of the dogs you sit with. She looks very well cared for and is still very trusting. I hope she gets reunited with her family soon. Also I like to think that sometimes family’s find their dogs. We had a big black dog. She had a bulbus head and was so sweet. We named her Daisy and had her for over 12 years. I still miss her. She loved everyone especially the grandchildren.

When you mentioned it's been a year it hit me in my heart hard because I realized in a month it will be a year since I lost my boxer Sarge. Needless to say I cried halfway through this video for the both of us. Watching your videos and hearing you talk about Flip and the emotions you've experienced has helped me get through mine. Rocky, I completely relate to how you feel about Flip. My soulmate dog was Charlie - a giant Yorkie who was goofy and sweet and smart and sometimes headstrong... Charlie passed two years ago on April 8th. I will never be completely over his passing. He was my ride or die buddy for 16 years, and we connected on such a level that I've never experienced with another dog. I still miss the feeling of him pressed against my side as we chilled on the couch, or his goofy antics that made me laugh when I was stressed. I hope we experience that kind of connection again. ❤

She looks like a Smoochy, Kissy (since she's so affectionate) or even Houdini because I'm pretty sure she escaped. My sister lost one of her four fur baby's (a chihuahua😂) named Bell on Monday. She and her brother Taco were and are elderly. They were from the same litter, years ago, they came all the way from Mexico to Canada only to find themselves no longer wanted . That's when my sister took them in after losing another one of her dogs. BELL got to live out a very pampered life with Peanut and Locket (who have also since passed) and Taco, Chelsea and Charlie, She was sweet good natures girl that loved her food, toys and family. We all miss her as she rests in peace.

Last saturday i had dream about mine dog i had. She was dalmatian and her name was Jessie. We really loved her, is over 10 years, since she passed away. Back to dream, the dream was so "live" i rember every detail still. I think, she came to visit me and check up on me. After i woke up, i started crying. So maybe, there is something about that our loved ones, who passed away, are just turned into mist or something, and they are still with us. Bro has me in tears. I’ve never had a dog but I did have rats. I felt really guilty for crying more about my rat than my great grandpa. I miss my rats. My baby Dusty he got me through the roughest years. He waited till I was safe mentally to pass. I see him everywhere. Every yellow butterfly. I always see them now. He’s there following me. Flying around me in circles. So much so that my friends have pointed out that yellow butterflies always circle me when I’m outside. He would always lick my tears. Even when there were none. He hated me crying. He would lick my tears and face until I laughed. Then he knew I was ok. Without him now the tears feel never ending. It’s strange not hearing him. Not being able to wake up to my favorite thing. Or come home to say hello my beautiful boy. Or hear his pitter patter of little feet running across every surface. 2 years was not enough time. Although he was like 60 in rat years he still felt like a baby. One thing that helped me though in the beginning was someone saying “although he was only there for a small portion of your life you were there for his entire life”
