Six Glacier Lookout ice breaking off

I said nice because it was a very challenging hike up the Plain of The Six Glaciers Trail above Lake Louise to Six Glacier Lookout, just past the Plain of Six Glaciers Teahouse (p6teahouse.com) to get to this point. It required a lot of time to get this shot of the glacier calving, and being in Banff National Park for the first time as a guy from flat ass Florida in the United States, this sounded like an afternoon thunderstorm. Glaciers always melt some during the warmer months, even before global warming/climate change, but yes, humankind IS speeding this phenomena up at a very accelerated rate. This is precisely why I wrote a book with a possible solution to combat this issue. Check out my book Buddha Krewe Regeneration, and learn how Hemp fuel can be used to combat global warming/climate change in a myriad of ways. For a humorist take on these topics, please read the book, Buddha Krewe Regeneration, then hopefully you will say Nice!

More like 1940's Big Band Music and Beautiful Female Dining Room Servers from the ultra-ritzy Chateau Lake Louise, the big 5-star historic hotel on the lake, which has been there since 1925 and gets a new staff change nearly every season.

It is false the glacier, that is the lower section below the camera, ever touched the lake in recent times. The lake was discovered by Euro-Canadians, led by an Indigenous People's Guide, in the 1880's. In fact it was the booming of an avalanche similar to this one that caused Tom Wilson, a packer working to supply survey crews on the nearby railway, to be curious about its source, and led him to the lake. The lower glacier was well above the lake even in 1880, it is 5.5 km / 3.5 miles from the end of the lake to where this avalanche fell, and the lower glacier never reached more than half way to the lake in modern times. I am from Western Canada and know this region inside and out, there are countless books published locally on everything one wants to know about it.

Read Buddha Krewe Regeneration, and learn how Hemp fuel can be used to combat global warming/climate change in a myriad of ways. Electric cars ARE NOT the solution, as they are charged using fossil fuels and require extensive mining of lithium and other finite natural resources. Hemp however, is a cleaner burning biofuel that is more energy dense than both corn and sugar based ethanol while not taking form the food supply. Plus, Hemp does to require the pesticides nor rape the land it is grown on like corn and sugar both do. Hemp can also be used as oil, food, plastic, clothing, textiles and rope while being grown on every continent, thus reducing the need for global shipping, yet another scourge on this great planet of ours. Additionally, Hemp provides additional photosynthesis and unlike coal mining, the jobs are all out in the sunshine or at least the great outdoors, therefor it gets workers out of the coal mines and into the sunshine. No need to go to the depths offshore drilling is, nor will it require exploration into the polar regions speeding up warming even more. Finally, electrification of automobiles will require extensive infrastructure change whereas Hemp fuel and oil can run in the same exact setups we currently have in place. This, all without even mentioning the benefits Hemp has over the tar sands being processed in the most Northern regions of Canada which requires pipelines to get that low energy dense oil to the refineries of the Gulf Coast and all of the associated leaks in the pipelines combined with the need to then ship it around the world. For a humorist take on these topics, please read the book, Buddha Krewe Regeneration, then hopefully you will say Nice! The nice comment was because this was something we set out to record and were able to capture it. At the time, getting to record a part of nature like that to someone who is seeing a glacier in person for the first time, it was nice. It is not nice that we are slaves to fossil fuels and have douchebags driving Tesla's thinking they are saving the planet!

We of course descended at 3 a.m. while everything was well frozen in order to avoid ice fall from Mt Victoria which is where this ice fall took place. Thanks for the walk down memory lane, glad to see the ice fall this way and not up close and personnel.

The avalanche fell 500 meters / 1500 feet. From the base where the avalanche fell to the very top of the mountain is 1000 meters / 3500 feet. The mountain is 3464 meters / 11,365 feet above sea level, and is named for Queen Victoria of Great Britain in 1890, as was the glacier, it is the largest mountain in the world named for her. Lake Louise was named for her 4th daughter, and is 1700 meters / 5700 feet above sea level. The hanging glacier where the avalanche fell from is about 100 meters / 300 feet thick. This whole region is the Rocky Mountains of Canada, about 150 km / 90 air miles wide and running from Glacier Park in Montana USA 1000 km / 600 miles north, and even beyond under another name, the central region where very famous Lake Louise is located is in Banff National Park, there are 54 peaks in Banff, Yoho, Jasper and Kootenay National Parks that exceed 3300 meters / 11000 feet above sea level. There are 4 National Parks and numerous Provincial Parks making a joined preserved area of about 20,000 / 10,000 square miles in these mountains, Lake Louise is right in the south-center of it. 10 km / 6 miles south of Lake Louise is equally famous Moraine Lake, 50 km / 30 miles north is equally famous Peyto Lake. 50 km / 30 miles west of this video is a 1000 km long and narrow north to south valley, the Rocky Mountain Trench, just 800 meters / 2500 feet above sea level, so the land rises 2800 meters or nearly 9000 feet in that distance, with many very high mountains along the way. West of the Trench is the equally extensive and almost as high and rugged Columbia River Mountains, named for the river, the largest and longest river in western North America, which has its headwaters here and 1200 miles later reaches the Pacific Ocean in Oregon State, USA. I am from Western Canada.

The original Native People's name for the lake was Ho-run-num-nay, which means "Lake of the small fish" so if the name changes to anything, that should be it.

The UN says “Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. Such shifts can be natural, due to changes in the sun’s activity or large volcanic eruptions. But since the 1800s, human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas.” BS. The earth is constantly undergoing cyclic change. It’s the same concept as the poles moving or flipping - it’s not man caused and we aren’t going to change it. Because petroleum is a limited resource it’s a good idea to slowly move away from it but don’t sell it to us as some kind of crisis.

This is precisely why I wrote a book with a possible solution to combat this issue.

In early July 1968, I was camping on the other side at Moraine Lake. I was sitting on the moraine hill at the end of the lake and heard rumblings from Temple Mountain to my right. I looked over and saw a snow avalanche! I sat there for over an hour and watched 13 separate slides come down from the top of the peak! It was the only time in my life I’ve ever seen it live and I didn’t have a camera! In those days, there was a campground we used to stay at and fish for trout. We would drive over to the Lake Louise Chateau, in the evenings for a small piano concert that was available in the main lobby! What an elegant way to camp! I think the campground is gone now. The last time I was there was 1972. I really miss our trips from Montana to Banff, Moraine Lake and Lake Louise. They’re the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. Thanks for your video and jogging my memories.

The cameraman was jubilant because in case you haven't noticed, it was a bit of a hike, and you still have to wait and time it right. Sorry for being jubilant that I actually accomplished something I set out to do, next time I will reply in a much more subdued manner. And while I personally could not stop that glacier from calving, I am at least trying to do something about. I wrote a book and provided tips and logical reasons to consider Hemp as not only a viable alternative to fossil fuels, but also bio-fuels that take from the food supply. Plus, it doesn't require tons of fertilizers, and does not rape the land like corn and sugar cane. This is in addition to producing a much more energy dense source of bio-fuel per hectare, but what do I know, after all, I'm not too bright.
