Jeff, have you ever thought about doing a video (or videos) on the different kind’s/type’s of scrapers you have and the advantages and disadvantages of each them along with basic history of scrapers, there rise and fall in the excavation industry, etc, Hope you have a great day and a better tomorrow.
They haven’t “ fallen” very much still in use everywhere. People don’t generally see a bunch of them working because they are out in landfills, mines, large mass excavation jobs ( new highway jobs). The only competition the CATs have are pull behind scrapers (tractor/pull-type ++) and they are as good in rocky material as the cats are.
Back until the 90s, all the area coal mines used scapers. They removed the topsoil and subsoil before opening the pit. Used them for reclamation after mining. Now they use truck and shovel for that work. I've always loved watching scrapers working.
Great video Jeff always enjoy watching you work on your 613 scrapers. Glad you were able to clean up the pile of dirt in your driveway. Thanks for sharing stay safe Jeff.
That is how most every project i have tackled lately has gone. A repair of the tools or equipment i want to use. Thanks again Jeff and Best Wishes to everyone at Anderson Construction.
Those were popular in the DFW area for building house pads and streets. There’s a few things about them I wasn’t to crazy about but all in all they were pretty tough little rigs.
Jeff, is that a 3208 I hear? Ran one of them in a small Ford cab over city truck pulling doubles around So. Cal 45 years ago. It had a stinky weed burner exhaust that smelled different from the 53 and 71 series Detroit's they let me drive back then. Most interesting thing about those Fords was the 10 speed Roadranger tranny had an air operated clutch brake. A little chrome air button on the shifter you would push with your thumb to brake the tranny.
I know you don't need another one.........but there is a D9G which is On-Line Auction LOT #: 3398 in Iowa. This thing won't bring scrap price. A person could make a living with a small crane, dump truck and a torch. Remove some parts to sell then scrap the rest. Will be interesting to watch this item and see if anyone bids. This is on Auction-Time site, warning...watching Auction Time can be addictive. 😀
Hey Jeff that 613 would pair well with the d7 . You should make a video about raccoon control I have heard they can carry rabies. Keep a close eye on Mr Griffy. Have a good week
You probably know but if that style fuel solenoid fails all you have to do is remove it. Stick your finger or a screwdriver in the hole to shut the engine down. My 3208 burned one out and I drove it home without it in. Doesn't leak oil or fuel either.
Scotch locks are evil! True sign of a shade tree electrician! It might just quit conducting before you get out of the shade of the tree! They typically cut half of your conducturs upon installation. 😂😡👹👺💩
I'm a dirt work newbie, so forgive me...😅 What's the purpose of the moving stick chain inside the bowl? Don't most scrapers just cut with a blade on the leading edge?
It’s an elevator chain, it’s whole job is to raise the dirt to the top of the pile in the bowl as you are making a cut/pass (whatever you want to call it)
god DA&%^% scotch locks ive run into more issues with those things fires in dash boards lights that wont work on trailers. i see someone using those i walk
