The reason why this song has a Latin feel is due to the fact that Catherine of Aragon, the wife who is singing, was from Spain! ^u^ Each wife in the musical is also semi-inspired in their look and vocal style by other famous singers. Catherine of Aragon: Beyonce Anne Boleyn: Avril Lavigne Jane Seymour: Adele Anne of Cleves: Rihanna & Nicki Minaj Katherine Howard: Ariana Grande & Britney Spears Catherine Parr: Alicia Keys
Each queen also has a designated color scheme. CA: gold AB: green JS: white AC: red KH: pink CP: blue Some of the colors are based upon the colors that the individual women wore in portraits. Howard is the only one that we don't really know how she looked. Her family destroyed all of the known portraits of her.
From what i can remember about the musical, the reasons for the songs is that the six wives are basically competing to see who had it worse being married to Henry
Regarding the 'brother's wife' comment- the musical explains it, but at 16, Catherine was sent over to England(from Spain) to marry Prince Arthur. He died months later, she was imprisoned for seven years, then was released and instead married his younger brother, Henry. They were married for 24 years, but only one child ever lived passed infancy: Mary(the famous 'Bloody Mary'). Due to the fact that Henry needed a male heir and that Catherine wasn't able to give him that, he instead turned his sights on to her lady-in-waiting, Anne Boleyn: the subject of the next song!
I love your reactions! I caught a few of the Bass cover reactions like Hoist the Colors, and then saw the musical ones. I'd love to see more of these Six animatics ((or even Hamilton) since we all know how RU-vid is about copyright.) Keep up the great job!! 😊
At the time divorce in the Catholic Church was frowned upon but also Henry did not have a legitimate reason to divorce Katherine. Katherine had more of a claim to divorce Henry for constant adultery. It was all because he wanted a son and he wanted to bunk up with Anne Boleyn cos he thought she would have a boy. So unfair on Katherine as she did give birth to sons but they were all stillborn or died as babies. Katherine humiliated Henry in front of his court when she challenged him to come up with just one legitimate reason for her to agree to the divorce. Obviously Henry had nothing so Katherine stood firm. It wasn’t until Henry broke away from Rome and the pope and created the Church of England he got his way. A decision that partly came back and bit him on the ass!
So the whole premise of Six is that the wives are competing to see who had it worse being with Henry by telling their stories. First up here we have Catherine of Aragon, who as the last song stated was married to Henry for 24 years. Unfortunately I don’t know a whole lot about the queens, though I do know that Catherine’s daughter was the monarch known as Bloody Mary. So… that’s fun. And that apparently, if I’m remembering right, Catherine was promised to and married Henry’s brother but then he died and Catherine was jailed for a short time (I think, even though she didn’t kill him to my knowledge) before she married Henry and then when she didn’t give him a son he tried to move her to a nunnery. Again, if I’m remembering right.
I hope other people want to see you react to the Legend of Vox Machina too; there's such GOOD hard-hitting heavy metal in a few scenes. And generally nice incorporations of music throughout because one of the characters is a bard, so his magic is intrinsically connected to music. Not really a full "musical" type like Hazbin or Helluva, but incorporating a D&D bard in a show hits so hard.
2:43 Wait until you get to "All You Wanna Do." The saddest song in the show IMO, but it's got a bubblegum pop vibe like Ariana Grande or old school Brittany Spears.
A little sad to see that this was the last part you've reacted to, but I get it, low likes, low views. If you do decide to get bakc into Six, I hope it really takes off. I know you'd love Get Down and All You Wanna Do is a fan favorite for everyone.
So fun fact: there's two different versions of Six the Musical! There's an American Cast (the original) and a UK cast (the one you've been listening to). The American songs was recorded live and are more fun visually but the UK songs were recorded in a studio hence why most use the UK cast songs for animatics instead of the American ones. If you ever have the chance to see the American live version, it's really good, super fun, and you'll get to see what they're actually doing during those "empty" spaces.
An American cast being the original has peaked my interest. Which one was that? Could this show have herstory I'm unaware of? That's so exciting! I always thought SIX was workshopped at Cambridge, premiered in Edinburgh in 2017, and then toured the UK, all before touring North America in 2019. Who needs sleep? I'm doing a deep dive researching this early cast. Where did you find out about it?
Apologies, I misread some information. The American recording I was referring to was actually "original Broadway cast" as in the recording was the original cast that first did Six in America. Not that it was original version. My bad.
There are animatics for the introduction and ending segmets for each song apparently. I'm still working on finding them all but if you need more context i bet the community could send you in the right direction to find those. I know you can find swveral by looking up "[insert wife name] Introduction animatic" but there are a few segments that doesnt get from what I understand. The lose your head animatic by Mokii does have the intro and ending as part of it iirc at least.
4:02 this moment reminded me so much of that moment in the Bass Gangs cover of centuries when they have that brief moment of angelic singing before it drops back into intensity
@@whatitdodave that's too bad. PTX is NOT the issue. They fight the label on this all of the time. They WANT people to react to their music. They know that RU-vid is the platform that really launched them. Without RU-vid and reactors, there is no PTX. Sigh. Well, I understand your frustration and situation. Thank you.
@@heidifruchtl354 I know it’s the label. But it’s gotten so ridiculous now that it’s not even worth the effort. As a matter of fact, not even just PTX’s label, but the labels in general has really started to crack down on any usage, even if I provide commentary that doubles the length of the song. To spend that much time on a video just to find out it gets blocked is draining. Hopefully things change in the future
@whatitdodave that sucks. I love your PTX reaction videos. I go back and rematch several, just to enjoy your reactions. I would love to have released a video of your reactions to PTX videos, not showing the PTX videos, just your reaction. I went back and double-checked if you had reacted to Gold or the ultimate Mitch slap, which is a fan video of PTX at the Singapore star Vista Aha! That is live, and you will not see Kevin, but you will feel Avi blow a speaker. I have seen other reactors jump out of their chairs, clutch their chests, and fall on the floor due to Mitch. I also really encourage you to watch the beginning of PTX, even if you don't post the videos. But seeing how they came together and evolved, it shows you so much.
