Reason is we are too smart. We think too much and that produces greed, the feeling of being embarrassed, the feeling of selfishness and so on. While hermit crabs on the other hand. Bro I'm too big for this big one and I see a new on that's better for me. Your smaller than me. I don't eat you, you're not food. You're also not my enemy or my predator. @@jorgewilliam7103if they are lined up in order biggest to smallest, with biggest near the empty, this shouldn't happen though right?. In a queue the crabs go biggest to smallest Crab C is closest to the E shell when the D Crab takes it and therefore gets first dibs. There is no way Crab A can take C shell before C moves into D. Though I suppose when C shell is open Crab A doesnt feel like waiting and can try to fight Crab B to get on Shell C first. But then it'd be Crab B left homeless. Though it seems unlikely a smaller further away Crab would be able to beat a larger closer one, it can happen. This is why the queue is neccessary.

Only in the wild and very rarely! I believe only Purple Pinchers or Coenobita Clypeatus have been documented doing this behavior! They are considered the most docile species of hermit crab. The most aggressive are the Australian Crazy Crabs.
I hate to tell you this but none of these crabs does it for the others, it's all for their own benefit. They get in line because the other crab has what they want. And that certainly also is something humans already do.

@@Grizzs Yup. Crabs even cut in line to steal the shell before the other crab can reach the other shell. And the worst part is their old shell gets taken before they can get back into it leaving them with no proper shell.
