Thank you for this video. I am so excited for this game and I always want to find out the char creation before I play so I can plan out my char but since this game doesnt have a wiki, yet, theres, or was, no info on this before your video :3
Very insightful and desciptive video. I had a crisis after arriving at the island as a ranger only to find the first companion also had a bow. This spurred an identity crisis that was thankfully remedied by this video. It's time to start my new life as a Guild-Magos
Funny thing: For a couple of years ago I asked the developer in one of their dev logs on youtube, if they could make portrait in likeness of me at the time(moustache and long mane with shaved sides) and they told me that they would. I'm so extremly happy they did make my portrait for the full-release!!
I like that this game does a good job of bringing the source material to a modern audience. I feel it mimics OSR very well especially the ad&d style ruleset it was going for with the goldbox. Course be warned the downside of this is that magic will be extremely weak and pure mages will in my opinion be a greater burden than a help for your party lineup, same issues you'll run into in baldurs gate 1 and 2 and Icewing dale 1 and 2 for those who have maybe played those games but not the goldbox or warriors of the eternal sun. This isn't to say mages don't have their place depending on your playstyle, I just personally find it better to replace a mage with a fighter/mage or not have one at all for another clerical character in the old school ttrpg days.
mages are bad in this game. Even at high level they can pew just a couple of spells with no reliable way to replenish mana. Be ready stock on mana potions like there is no tomorrow.
@@bratttn been reading a few people saying that pure mage is pretty rough going. I wonder if the devs just don’t want the players to have access to powerful casters at all times? Ultima was pretty good on casters (if you prepared) ; so maybe it was a bit of an over correction
@@pockystyx4087 first, there are no "devs", there is a single dev. Even if you want to restrict the high level spell spamming there are ways to design it better than it's done in Skald. Fighters have got cooldowns and don't use the mana at all, while mages do use mana but have no reliable way to replenish it other than resting. Clerics use both mana and cooldowns but have no extra attack like fighters do. Rangers at least can melee if they are out of arrows. Mages do feel like a complete burden without mana. If I were rank the classes it would go like this -> fighters and thieves S tier, rangers A, clerics B, battlemagos C, champion, pure mage and pure cleric - D tier.
@@bratttn ah; do that would probably explain it lol Solo devs project; coupled with potential melee fighter preference, probably to blame for the poor state of pure casters.
@@pockystyx4087 It's true to the source material actually, if mages didn't suck outside of a few spells it wouldn't capture the true Goldbox feel it's going for.
Hello lumin can you please do sunset overdrive character creation? You've done so many but I've never seen you do video of sunset overdrive character creation,ik it's outdated game but character creation in that game is decent
Hello lumin can you please make Raven II/2 mmorpg character creation video? That game has extremely fantastic character creation more visually beautiful than baldur's gate 3 and dragons Dogma 2
