Let´s take a look at Skannerz - A curious handheld Pokemon clone from early 2000´s.

You're not scanning it right. Years ago, here's what I did to get mine to work about 85% of the time: 1. Have the screen face DOWN and place the reader directly onto the bottom-left edge of the barcode. 2. Slide it right, and moving up VERY slightly. Keep the screen horizontal, though!. Move a little quicker with it, too. 3. If it gives a small pulse, that means you at least got something, but it couldn't be read. Try again. Additional tip: Make sure to keep the scanner level with the barcode. Don't angle it, and make sure it keeps full contact with the item. Best of luck! o7

Thanks for the tip. But when I was scanning different sorts of items with barcodes I did try different angles including flat face down. But I just never got anything more than a pulse

@@TalesTreasures Hmm... could be a faulty scanner, then. They *are* at the 20+ year old mark, after all. Have you printed out the original barcode from the internet and try scanning it from the sheet of paper?

@@Emoji-Blue I haven't. But I don't currently feel the need to revisit Skannerz. I still have them in a box incase I need them for something but not too interested in playing them. Might take another look at some point in the future.

I don't remember seeing commercials for these as a kid. We just kinda got them for Xmas or something 😅

Nice. Usually batteries start to corroding after a long time. I don't know what happened to the one I had as a kid. These two were given to me

Don’t scan just video games! Scan food items, film cases, everyday items like pencils or Qi tips.

I did scan a few movies and books as well but those had same results as well. But thanks for the tip!

Improvements - - make the Commander compatible with the earlier models - improve the balance between the ratios of successful scans vs. unsuccessful scans - add a fourth tribe - possibly improve the character designs

I had one, I caught dozens of monsters. Did you try it without the plastic cover in the way? It doesn't work with some shiny barcodes, like soda cans.

I think I tried like one where I took the sleeve out of the plastic. But didn't experiment further. Not sure if I did it wrong or something. Because it would be weird that they both were broken the same way. I just ultimately assumed that it was a bad product.

@@TalesTreasures Well it didn't read a lot of barcodes, but your was way worse than mine. Maybe they changed how barcodes work in the last 15 years.

Hard to say. But I did use games that were made in the same era as the Skannerz. So that can't be the problem.

You guys are OBVIOUSLY noobs, aside from this guy ^ For starters, did you see the barcodes in the instruction manual? THOSE ARE THE ONLY KIND OF BARCODES YOU NEED TO SCAN!!! The full-size ones. Not the short ones, or the small ones, because it won’t scan them at all. That’s why you weren’t picking anything up on those games, dude The games aren’t garbage, once you learned how to scan properly
