no need for a larger box when you can do one of two things: staple poly-fill to the inside walls of your box (yes it works), and/or invert the sub! I vote first try inverting the sub. I inverted my 2 Skar VXF 15s and it hit lower because it turns the vehicle's cabin into the enclosure by inverting. Secondly, buy yourself a 3K or 5K Taramps for cheap and upgrade your battery to XS Power D3400. Your stock alt should be enough for now because mine is a 150a (but I just bought a 390a bcuz I have nearly 10K RMS power draw) Hope to have helped!
Oh snap! I appreciate the knowledge, I’ll try inverting it in the next few weeks. Be sure to subscribe buddy I’m gonna see where when I invest in all of these things. First step is a voltmeter, then battery upgrade. Again thanks Brandon!
@@lowhertzhighspl @TNB 23 Your subs hit lower inverted because the magnet of the sub is no longer taking up air space in the box, so the volume inside the box has grown. And when you increase air volume in a box without shortening the port, the box tune drops to a lower frequency. Just thought I would clear this up for the new guys 👍🏽
First off, sweet ride ! I love those SUV's plus that color is sick ! :) Secondly, I'm also running a single ZVX 18 in my F150. Best sounding sub setup I've ever owned... But I can tell just from the flex, you are a LOT louder than I am. Your setup shows what's possible with SPL's from a singler ZVX 18. Anyway, keep at it bro :)
Thanks bro it’s literally the best vehicle I’ve ever owned & the most reliable too! Nice I love to hear from people who have skar audio products! Definitely agree it’s the best sounding sub, but I do wanna upgrade but they don’t offer anything in 18”, the DNR is only a 15” sub
@@TNB23 Well, like I said, mine is the best sounding setup I've ever had..... But still, I want to upgrade it too :) Trust me, no matter how great we ever build our setups, we will always want more, as long as we are into car audio :) Peace.
Run a router with a round-over bit around all the edges of that box, then use body filler on all the seams and sand it smooth with a block. After all that prime and paint it any color you want and it will look great!
Yeah man I agree! Guess our vehicles aren’t popular enough. Stay tuned though I got some things in the works (H.O alternator color matched & Voltmeter install)
Pioneer gm8601 sub amp finally kicked the bucket and blew some caps. Swapped it out with an Orion ztreet “8k” (2k rms at 1 ohm) plus a secondary battery….. dude a single evl 18 is enough to start making you breathe funny on this set up…. Goodness me. 😂
Awesome video, I’m runnin 2 evl 12s in a custom enclosure currently(my video on my channel is the prefab) and I was thinking bout runnin this single 18. Thing slams holy hell
@@jahy4999 oh Believe you me, the whole car feels like the A/C is on full blast when the bass hits. I’m in the same boat as you though, soon I’ll two of these! Lol make sure you brace the roof of your truck tho 💯
@@jahy4999 unless you have subs that are running a lot more power than this your roof on a truck is fine lol. He has a giant sunroof. My buddy has a Durango with 4 custom 15s and the doors got 6 tweeters and 2 12 inch mids each. Roof is fine, but the sunglasses holders and rear view mirror came off 🤣💯
I am currently running a single ZVX 15 on a Skar RP1500.1D and am waiting till May when Skar has the 18 back available which I have a Skar RP2000.1D waiting for it.
@@eduardoquezada11 i sold the star evl 15s and got the star zvx 12 on the star rp 4500. I recently got the resilient sounds team 15s 5000rms each. They're heavy af.
Younginfamou$ I actually love my whip! If I’m not mistaking this has more power than the evoque. Now the aftermarket is getting better for the Edge. So 500 whp isn’t too far away with a few bolts ons and a tune. But my opinion is also biased lol 😆. Go for the ford haha!
No problem bro! Also avoid the EDGE ST model and the 2016 models. 2016s have head issues, and the STs transmission isn’t the greatest as it’ll go out quicker than can say “fuvk” lol (tuned that is)
I got the specs in one of my emails and I’m working on putting a 15 in a car I sold so be on the lookout for that one. I’ll update this comment once I have the specs for you! Thanks 🙏🏽
I believe it was 300 something and yeah if you want to be Able to rattle windows off the wall. Keep in mind with your car it’s gonna take a bigger box maybe to get louder than me
I'm in middle of build single with the skv2.1500 amp eventually will be the skv2.2500 but I'm using the 1500 for a vxf15 later on so I didn't get the 2500 yet.
@@TNB23 i installed it 2 weeks ago. 390 amp. was somewhat of a pain to do bcuz i didnt have anyone to tell me tips so when youre ready, ask and i will share much needed tips. plz include year and engine size of edge.
The stock radio when the volume increases it rolls the bass down with it and that’s not good for an amplified system so I just completely bypassed it. Rockford fosfate has a remedy but my system isn’t broken so I haven’t upgraded just yet.
Did you get an extra battery ? What upgrade did you do to your power source? Like big 3 wiring or alternator upgrade? I have 2 sundown X12 that I've been wanting to install for a long time
No I dont have an extra battery just yet, No big 3, or Alternator upgrade. All of that is coming in 2022. Believe it or not the factory Alternator does decent keeping up
@@TNB23 thanks man. Just checking to see what I need so I can run the subs in a healthy way. I heard all I needed was a sundown 3000 and an extra battery
@@Terminator_888 yes 4 Crescendo PWXs and 4 tweeters on 2K. Believe it or not, my lights only dim when I don’t drive the Edge regularly (bassing that is )
I have my zvx 18 in a 08 hhr. 270 mechman alt ,0ga ofc wire ,one yellow top battery and one d3400 battery on a taramps 3k smart half ways up on amp wired to 1ohm.my video is on u tube
In the right box I don’t see why not. If you have a hatchback you’ll definitely see similar results for sure. Best thing to remember is that even with 2 12s you’ll still end up trailing a single 18 in regards to total cone square inches. Didn’t mean to get too technical haha but just wanted to help out
Nice setup I just had zvx 15s then went to 1 zvx 18 my only issue with zvx series they have small hertz range they it really hits crazy hard then the rest is just ok, I switched to audiopipe bdc4 18 and hands down better hits harder cleaner sounding even harmony audio monolith 18 does better but great video was just my experience with the zvx
Thanks bro & thats an interesting observation I figured audiopipe subs were not that great sounding but I’ll definitely have to look into that! My next sub was gonna be an ascendant audio mayhem 18 (thoughts) hopefully that gets me in the 150s. Thanks for the input 💯!😄
Whaaaaaaaaaa Ima have to watch this video myself… swear I didn’t catch that during the editing process lol.. is it when I said another iteration???? Lmao 🤣
@@TNB23 haha yup. That's what got me 😂. The rest you can make out but just doesn't seem to quiet match up for me 😂 anyways great video man. Have a wonderful day 👍
@@jordank7685 it is expensive!! I actually put sooo much sound deadening on the Rear hatch that it won’t hold itself up all that well anymore lol. It literally just falls back down 😂. Don’t know the best way to go about attacking that honestly, any suggestions?
Oh ya. Ive had that issue with an older civic. I just used some vice grips to hold it up, but you could possibly replace the air struts with some heavy duty ones
That’s the thing. Where would I get some heavy duty ones made for my car, I could have someone fabricate some but back to the same question lol who fabricates those kind of things ?
Those are some shitty mirrors. Can’t even believe that this is a newer car & the mirror design is crap. Hope there’s a way to tighten them. Good vid tho!
Meter in the dash, door open it managed 146.8. Sealed I actually lost SPL guess due to the flex, but it was 146.34 (sealed). It seems louder than what the meter suggests though. Once I pay off my car I’ll upgrade everything stay tuned!
@@salimsopari I promise you’ll hit 145 no problem with the proper box. These subs get loud with very little power, so when you do put yours in let me know!
@@salimsopari 5.25 cubes tuned @ 32 hz. I have the full specs if you want to see it. Also I use to build boxes but I’m no good at it anymore lol so I let the pros do it
Actually no. The stock radio rolls the bass down as the volume gets higher, so I bypassed that with an aftermarket unit. Plus I have an Infinite amount of tuning options in comparison
The factory head unit rolls bass off at higher volumes. Which isn’t what we want when installing a sound system. Additionally this is the cheaper route and is very reliable in comparison to the Rockford fosgate alternative
It’s a known fact that with the factory head unit that when the volume goes up it slowly decreases the amount of bass going to the speakers 🔊 which isn’t good for us bassheads.
No this is the product that I was mentioning. Every time I go to buy it it’s never in stock 😕. That’s how I came up with my solution. rockfordfosgate.com/products/details/dsr1/
@@TNB23 jus the way you talk, u sound southern. Also, I like the box bro did you build it yourself? I got a Q-Power 15 doin the same thingh in a honda fit
@@Tmanstomp100 ok ok that’s pretty good actually. My first ever system was 136 DB on the meter. This particular system I have no clue what it is but if I had to guess I would say about 145-147 DB for sure. My electrical is my weakness in this build
