We got to skate and hang out with Shane around his home in California. Check out Shane's team page: gonike.me/shane-tp Featured shoe, Nike Free SB: gonike.me/free-sb
I know a skater that is not as good as him by far...but worked hard in tech industry, made a lot of money and has a home park probably just as good as Shanes, the street part is..but he also has a HUGE 13ft vert ramp with a roll in, and lights etc (the guy is actually into vert skating...and he's actually a rollerblader). So you don't gotta go pro to have sht like this, you simply gotta be able to pay for it. Vast majority of pro skaters could not and will never be able to afford even close to what Shane has with the money they make skateboarding for a living by themselves. There is some parks that pro's have where they went in together on it..i think Biebels park was like that, it wasn't just him who was paying for that space.
People love to shit on Nike, but when it comes down to it, that sponsorship is how he made enough money to build the perfect skatepark right in his backyard. Isn't that every skater's dream?
True. But .00001% of skateboarders will be well off like him from skateboarding. I see lots of good local skateboarders that skate every day, but they have no real job and bum off people for money and a place to stay. Its sad, but hey, "living the dream" right? I am happy with what Nike has done with all their parks and contests. But they can only do so because there are so many skaters that buy their crap in the first place.
purple durple I am bringing money in working. I wish you the best with your endeavor to reach that .00001%. If you look into it a bit more you will see the REALLY good skateboarders like the ones that skate street league, started when they were REALLY young and did it non stop day in and day out. So it really depends on your age right now and what level you are at with your skateboarding to be bringing in the money like Shane and P-Rod.
^yo dude stop trying to shut on people's dreams. There's a difference between people that go pro and people that want to go pro. The people that do go pro are the ones that say "yea I'm going pro" or say they are going pro. The others, well they just don't, becuase they don't have enough determination. I garuntee that kid can go pro all it takes is time and dedication
Not trying to "shut on people's dreams" Its called REALITY and stating fact. There are a ton of pro's out there. But only a handful of them are actually making good money from skateboarding like Shane O'Neill.
All opinions aside, you all realize this young man is the smoothest, most naturally gifted new-age skateboarder to infiltrate the industry. There are very few with feet as accurate and precise as Shane.
Holy fuck, skateboarding has changed so much since i started in 1988. Or maybe i should say the money in it has drastically changed it. If for the better or the worse, i cannot say. But i want a park like that in my backyard as well..
As someone who started skating in the late 80's--when there were maybe four actual "street" pros--its sick to see cats being PAID like this. Love it man. Now if they would just unionize they wouldn't have to worry about health insurance or carreer ending injuries. Shangri friggin' La!
I'm saying I know they make money, I just didnt know the outcome would look like this to the point of living in Los angles with a very nice house and backyard skatepark the size of that one, that shit really isn't cheap, that looks doctor money. But that's why I pay my respect to all great skateboarders
Jonas Polsky It is making skateboarding way more mainstream, which makes people like myself kinda pissed off. I mean, look at Street League, it looks like a football game
giorgio tsoukalos the trade-off of being underground is pros will make way less money, and there will be fewer pros, companies, videos, everything. i agree that being sponsored by mountain dew or whoever is pretty wack, but at least the sport/art of skateboarding benefits from it
You have me the impression that you have a Honda Civic with a huge spoiler, neon lights, a fart cannon, and a crappy lime green paint job. You also probably played GTA 5 which inspired you to rice the fuck out of your already perfect car.
FUCK man, I'm SO happy for this guy he's living the dream and getting paid for what he loves doing. I was 16 when i was hard flipping 4 and 5 stairs but i had to stop. Now I'm doing construction 40 to 50 hours a week, miserable. FUCKIN sux. I just started back up simply cause i love skating. Struggling to do kick flips and board slides. Landed a nose slide on this box i built 😒 whupyyy. Damn it sux thinking how life coulda been but instead I'm rocking out construction all my life. Kids if you have a goal, this may sound bad but if your parents are telling you to quit playing around and you feel you could make something of yourself. Take it from me, follow your dream. You'll regret it forever if you don't...
I respect so many skaters but man Shane is just my favorite one! His style, dedication and cosistency makes him in my opinion the best or at least one of the best skates of all time... Wish I could meet him sometime it would be a blast!
Lol this is what happens when a kid makes money skateboarding. I’m envious for sure. It’s funny that he eats out everyday and has a backyard skatepark. Dream
