Hey y'all, there have been widespread reports that C&S has failed to fill a shockingly large number of orders to board companies big and small. As far as I understand, many of them are having difficulty getting their money refunded even months after they were supposed to be delivered. I can not support this kind of behavior in the board building community which relies so heavily on trust and collaboration, especially at the small-shop scale. I am going to leave the video up because I think it contains a wealth of good information for people trying to make their own boards, but I'm removing all of the promotional links and stuff to C&S. Let's hope they fill their orders or make their refunds, and that the companies they were working with get the restitution they deserve.

Major Respect for adding this new comment! while you can’t control nor should you be held responsible for what others may do it does show that you are not willing to take part in promoting these type of shady tactics. Particularly thankful that you are staying true to helping watch out for the smaller shops and do it yourselfers out there that work VERY hard to keep a good reputation in the skate community. Thanks again Chris for taking the extra time to update and be honest about these issues. That is all anyone can ask for. nice job Good Roads!

This just made me realize that, when I mentally list the different woodshop tools I need, I'm literally wanting an entire skateboard factory. Awesome content - thanks for the shot of the wooden press!

Amazing tour, look like good guys doing great things with making skateboards, I'd love a playground like that factory 😂😂. Thank you for sharing, this gets my vote for more of this type of stuff ... Who doesn't love to see how skateboards are made 😉👍🏻. Good work Chris, and thanks to the guys at the factory for sharing their operation and techniques... Hopefully I can transfer this workflow to a garage near me soon... I love the idea of making quality boards for fun 👍🏻👍🏻

Having seen factory tours from PS Stix and Powell, it's interesting to see the differences between small volume and high volume manufacturing. All the same steps are there but the level to which unnecessary movements are optimised is clear.

Like the Alva inspired board. Not many wood shops screen printing direct to wood nowadays that's cool to see.
@GoodRoads
@GoodRoads 2 года назад
I agree, and it arguably has benefits for the board since it doesn't go through the extra compression in the heat-transfer machines that are used in a lot of shops

Awesome thanks for sharing, that's great I got some work to do on my stuff, but that's when I get time, I changed part of my jig and got more shape in the middle but need more kick tails, I'm just hoping that the shop I get the ply has some still as of covid we are running out of products here in New Zealand plus the prices are going up 🙁🙁 thanks this helps alot 😀👍🏻

Chris, my last two boards I've built I used clear grip tape from Amazon. I love that stuff to let the art show through.

Always so sick to see how similar it is to building at home. Often the biggest differences are a setup space, CNCs and the skill to bang out multiple boards a day.
@GoodRoads

I'd add the quality of the machines in the shop too, they have to well run for so many more hours than in a hobbyist's setup. I'd love to get my hands on some higher end tools some day

Just found you channel and subbed Gotta say it’s what I’ve needed in my life. Thanks for all the content. I know you’re not supporting this company at the moment. But what are there prices for a single deck. Are do you have to by multiple. Always wanted to know thanks!!!!!!
@GoodRoads
@GoodRoads 2 года назад
Thanks dude! I think I paid $100 or so for the custom deck, but if you're looking to get a board made for you I would look around to try to find local builders. Most people building boards at a small scale would be happy to do you a custom. Manak Skates and Life Skateboards are the first two that come to mind. Beau at Open Source Skateboards would probably do you one too

Great content Chris! I'd love to see more 'How is made' type of content if you find this kind of factories and businesses. Also, I just want you to know that Bear trucks (Landyachtz own brand) have that 8 mounting hole layout you mentioned on the last 'DIYcasting your own aluminum trucks' video; so you can choose from three wheelbase lenghts and four setup combinations on the same board. Maybe it's more common among longboard brands.
@GoodRoads
@GoodRoads 2 года назад
I've heard that! I've never had a set of Bears but yeah, it makes too much sense.

@@GoodRoads Their geometry is something else! The kingpin it´s more slanted than regular TKP trucks which makes them really responsive and carve friendly, think of regular trucks mounted with wedged risepads.

What if you have some of what you believe are some original ideas for some various longboard/surfskate blanks you would like to create?
@GoodRoads
@GoodRoads 2 года назад
I have been building my own decks for more than 15 years so I've got more than a decade and a half of ideas I want to try. If you want to see one that I really care about check out my most recent mountainboard build. I'm really proud of that geometry and eager to see how it holds up to abuse and better riders

@@GoodRoads right on I will. I'm so disappointed. The surfskate I'm building I have to put on hold. I got my Waterborne box yesterday and I am kinda quite disappointed to find the high performance surfskate conversion kit package I purchased is missing the REAR TRUCK SURF ADAPTER and only contained WOOD BLOCK RISER PADS much to my dismay. And after reviewing the Waterborne website and reviewing the contents of each package. It appears to be a mistake in the shipping department to give Waterborne credit; I ordered and purchased the HIGH PERFORMANCE SURF ADAPTER PACKAGE containing BOTH front and rear adapters. Instead I have received just the FRONT SURF ADAPTER PACKAGE KIT containing the front adapter,3 bags of hardware required,2 WOOD BLOCK RISER PADS and 4 stickers. Like I said I believe that it is a simple mistake and will be rectified by Waterborne, I have sent the appropriate emails and attached a photo of the contents of the box. Perhaps you can enlighten me as to my predicament? I have not been able to bolt on the kit; as I'm afraid I may have to return the delivered parcel for an exchange for the right surfskate package.

@@williammadray7818 I don't know what to tell you dude, I've never used a surfskate before. Sounds like waterborne is taking care of you though, just be patient and I'm sure it will get sorted out. Accidents happen
@williammadray7818
@williammadray7818 2 года назад
@@GoodRoads you are absolutely right my man. Patience is a virtue, is gonna be the case in the situation. That I'm sure is just a mistake. The surfskate; I believe is the next REAL new thing. Certainly judging by the reviews from professional skateboarder/surfers and professional surfer/skateboarders. For the latter it seems it's all about it being an actual surfing trainer. For the former; it turns the forgotten surf style cruiser into a carving machine on steroids. I won't know until I can bolt it on, and define the experience using my 45 plus years of skateboarding and surfing experience. In fact the skate decks I have in mind are to most emulate and replicate the surfing experience AND enhance performance in cutbacks and while pumping the surfskate to maintain and/or increase speed. Perhaps we can elaborate later.

@GoodRoads

SK8CAD from Beau over at Open Source Skateboards has some longboard options if I remember right. You can generate STLs for printing from that. I'll be adding a longboard setup to the repertoire at some point as well so stay tuned!

So, what happened to Carver and Stone? Best I can tell is that they ripped off a bunch of people and disappeared. Their website is offline. It's a real shame, if that's what indeed happened. I wish there were more companies making their products themselves in the USA, especially skateboards.
@mattnorrod5099
@mattnorrod5099 Год назад
That is exactly what happened... I know a handful of smaller shops that were ripped off, and they hung Embassy Skateboards out to dry on a large order. If you look at Allen's response to all the negative Google reviews, he thought customer service as a joke. It's a shame, too. I got an order from them (it was very, very late and was only delivered after I filed a claim with my bank for fraud) and the decks weren't bad.
