I think it’s very similar to dancing. My grandma and her sister used to make costumes for dance teams and it was definitely an important part of the functionality of them all. And dancing is definitely a sport (so much athleticism needed to be good).
Why do they make the women's skating costumes with no fabric at the back? It is idiotic, if it was covered at the back, then they could wear a sports bra inside and accidents like Papadakis' could never happen. It's silly really to think of a sexy costume rather than a practical one especially when it's a competition.
Skaters usually have see through mesh in the back so they can get away with super . deep cuts without worrying about it falling apart. That obviously was not the case for Papadakis dress so idk what happend there. As well, I know most of the time, the bra is usually built right into the dress
Yeah, and they try to tell you it's about competition or artistry. Women are judged differently, female costumes are part of judging, male skaters just show up in modest head to toe costumes without their asses hanging out on the ice and automatically are the correct "image". It's so sexist. More modest, comfortable, safe and practical options for female skaters please!
