What a great lesson and great channel! Subscribed! I'll try these moves this weekend (wearing my helmet, elbow and knee pads; i'll be doing plenty of falling down while learning).

Erskine Patton Thank you🙏 have fun practicing, and don’t worry if you fall: that just means you’re pushing yourself!

Have watched the sport for awhile but now that im not broke i went and got a stick, rollers/gloves and a green biscuit. Been going to the tennis court and skating/ shooting at the wood thing up against the fence. Crazy how much better you get every time you go out and practice. Ill slowly get more gear and seek out people to play with and i definitely want to get on the ice at some point. Thanks for the drills bro keep up the good work

great videos I returned to practice after long years and this is very helpfull but I still don't get the "quick start" at 3:20 I watch it on slow motion but it looks tough!

Thanks! The quick is basically: front leg (leg furthest away from our destination) does a big C-cut outwards. The other leg then crosses underneath. This sometimes is confusing because some skaters mix the legs up and want to bring the back leg in front instead of behind the C-Cut leg.

Thanks for these roller blade videos. I’m a hockey player and just bought some Mission Inhaler roller blades. It sounds like the Marsblades might of been a better match but getting outside in the summer is the main priority. If you have any other roller blade exercises to share they would be appreciated. Again, great job and thanks from Eastern Canada!

Ron Patterson glad they could help you! Yeah I do like the Marsblades better, but it’s like comparing a one-piece to a two-piece stick: one-piece is better but you can shoot with both! Right now these are my only two rollerblade videos planned, but I do post a lot of short rollerblade clips on Instagram!

Excellent work Marc! These are some of the best basic techniques I myself use everyday on the streets. That "under cross" is great for usage on weak side turns, until one can learn to carve properly. BillBSS made it a habit on his right turns :)

I have 2 questions Marcel. Firstly is there a complete drills program you can do each week that will help in all areas of skating when off the ice? I see a lot of drill videos but I'm used to gym weight training where you have a program that you stick to to cover all aspects of a workout. Second question, more of a request...have you planned to do a backwards tight turns tutorial? I can't find one anywhere and I want to learn.

Hi, thanks for the questions! TBH, working full-time I honestly don’t have the time to do a complete drills program each week. What I recommend is each practice, pick one specific skills to work on and build it up (different than a gym workout). With the backwards tight turns- we don’t ever really do a full turn backwards. I have two videos on Transitions in English (on ice) which might help you out!

@@MarcelsHockeySchool okay! I wondered why I didn't see more than 2 videos on the backwards turns. I wasn't suggesting you spend time making more videos (I know how time consuming it is), just wondered if there was a strategy to it. I currently do a bit of everything each skate and then bring in a new thing (1 leg s curves at the moment).

I know this is an old video, I'm 41 and am a mediocre skater at best and decided that I want to learn skating and join a rec league, I live in iowa and open skating in my area is 1-2 days a week at best... that being said on rollerblades (which I'm starting to train with) is there things I should avoid training on that won't transfer to ice? Thanks for the videos and any help

No you can pretty much try anything on rollerblades. Some things won’t work so well (stopping, really tight turns), but nothing is going to actually hurt your ice skating.

Great video. Any reason why you didn’t cover backward crossovers? Would you recommend working on those on rollerblades as well, or would that have a negative effect on the ice?
@MarcelsHockeySchool
@MarcelsHockeySchool 4 года назад
Chris Bruce Thanks! We honestly don’t practice pure backward crossovers very often, only as part of the start or in transitions, because those are the only times you ever really use them in a game. I did however just shoot an on-ice video on backward crossovers which I will release as the start of next season, because so many viewers have asked for it! It will be in German, but I subtitle all my German vids in English. You can definitely work on backward crossovers on rollerblades though; it won’t have any negative on-ice effects!
