One of my favorite details in this piece is the small highlight on the stone on which the main figure’s extended right foot is standing. I would never have thought to put a highlight on the stone and it’s these little lighting details that fascinate me and that I wish I had the intuition to recognize and execute in my own mini painting projects. 🖤🍻

Hearing you describe the thought processes that go into leading the eye around a piece for maximum effect really demonstrates the artistry of miniature painting which can be missing from so many other speedpaint/slapchop type videos. I understand both have their place but find real satisfaction in seeing someone so talented in their craft.

Thank you Sam, there is much to learn from this piece. As usual, the blends at the base of the mini are exquisite. What I do notice is you chose for your yellow theme three separated zones combining as a triangle for visual balance. It's such a success. I'll try to apply that lesson in my next big piece.

This video appeared exactly when I needed it. I’m currently working on a multi miniature diorama, the first I’ve done in the style I’m doing, and was wanting to use a dark red to add some contrast to a snowy background/terrain. However this video made me realize red cloaks on multiple figures would distract from the scene and mood I’m trying to convey.
