According to the caption for this upload, this SF session was broadcast on what was my 11th birthday. Being born and raised out in what would have been regarded as a far-flung remote outpost in the Pacific Northwest of the US, at a time when many didn't know Seattle or even Tacoma existed - or where they were located, it would take me a few more years to even see references in print to this band. And although I knew of them whilst I was at Uni in the early/mid '90s, I was too busy broadening my musical tastes elsewhere, even though I had started turning to the goth/post-punk side as early as Junior High. My most significant exposure to SF was a belated one, via digging around online and on YT, when I started discovering their songs here. In any case, whilst I have regrets that I wasn't more clued into them as a kid (and none of the friends that I associated with at the time likely were either), I feel a bit more youthful with each track, video, or session of theirs that I find.
Its great. The criticisms of her voice are ridiculous. How come no one ever makes comments like that about Crass or Flux of Pink Indians? 'Cause they know it's absurd. But for some reason, here it's relevant? Nonsense! You just don't like Skeletal Family. Which is fine, but it does mean you're on the wrong internet page.
Hear hear! Anne Marie is the perfect singer for The Skeletal Family. I think she’s amazing. Her voice on the first track here is pretty powerful. Great peel session overall.
John peel was one of my hero's and it has to be said he chose some great stuff to promote. Sadly though he also chose some right drivel and this falls into that catagory. I will admit that this is probably their best outing and at times almost makes the grade (can't believe I just said that) but honestly if you dig just a little deaper you will find the truth. I have no idea how the engineer/producer on this session managed to make ann marie sound like she could almost sing - deserves a meddle !
@@mordokch I think you are out of touch. Anne-Marie might not be the greatest female singer of all time like someone said but Skeletal Family is not a bad group. Did you listen to Promised Land? It's pretty good. I'm just a bit tired of people making the same comments like " the most underrated band"... or criticizing for the sake of criticizing, especially if one is not into that type of music.
@@frandean7084 I've honestly no idea what I've heard - I saw them live more than a few times though. They were one of the local bands to me, and in fact I did kinda know several of them through other friends, but never thought of them as my kind of people. I also saw ghostdance a number of times too. I must have seen SF around Keighley like 20 times or more for some reason. I suppose you gotta like what you like, I mean there are honest to goodness coldplay fans out there ! really ! So yeha - could be worse. I suppose I was spoiled growing up in a time when female vocalists were, on the whole, pretty damn good.
I think she is absolutely incredible, here she was young and very good, by the time she founded Ghost Dance she was by far the best female vocalist of the goth scene (of course Lisa Gerrard and Diamanda Galas excluded but they do different stuff), listen "a deeper blue" to understand what I mean.
