Well, they're pushing only at the beginning. Then they have to lean/steer the board while maintaining the straight body position. That's the difficult aspect of it.

It also requires a lot of skill with steering. Skeleton is similar to bobsleigh. If you don't lean the correct way on a turn you could hurl yourself off the track at 70 mph. That's what really makes it suspenseful.
