here in brazil the Hahnemuhle's D&S sketchbook is really expensive... since art supplies here are so expensive we're actually used to a lot worse quality sketchbooks (and other art supplies in general), like the Canson's ArtBook One 100g wich is the most common for people to buy, so really any of the hahnemuhle's sketchbooks are very high quality for us! great video, thanks for the review :D
Canson Universal sketchbook is the best you can get and it's not expensive. It's better than the Artbook one, the Canson Artbook 180 has exactly the same paper as the Universal but the magnetic strap gets in the way! Get the Canson Universal it's the best sketchbook out there!! I own all the Hahnemuhle sketchbooks and even though the quality is very high, I still use Canson way more.
Oooh yes I love their sketchbooks, I have a square one with black pages. I just find that sometimes with really nice sketchbooks I can feel a bit inhibited because I think I’ll ruin the beautiful pages 😆 I need to feel free 😄
I think the Seawhite is still pretty cheap over here in the Netherlands! Get them at Van Beek in Amsterdam, De Kwast in Den Bosch, or at Swaak in Utrecht. Clairefontaine also has the Goldline series of sketchbooks, those are 150gsm, I think they are about as expensive as Seawhite. Not sure they are available in square formats though.
Yes I was splitting hairs really, they are very comparable in price. I’ve recently got into the seawhite ring-bound sketchbooks which are really nice too.
I use watercolour in mine. The pages do buckle especially if you use a lot of water, but they will flatten out over time. It’s definitely not the same as using a watercolour sketchbook but each page isn’t so expensive and precious which makes me feel inhibited, as I don’t want to ‘ruin’ the page!
