A trip to the Osceola train depot in Wisconsin to sketch. This train depot makes a great subject for a sketch and the history of the depot takes us back to a time in American when rail was at its peak. This depot was saved from the wrecking ball by the Minnesota Transportation Museum and still operates today as one of the few working small depots in our area. Love the history of the station at the beginning. I think it looks gorgeous. I would love to be so much more loose with my own watercolors but I always end up adding way too much detail and in my paintings, I always end up making them look too busy. Your perspective view of the sketch was perfect, I struggle terribly with perspective no matter what medium I am using. Beautiful work Marty

Hi Harry - Thanks for the kind comments, much appreciated. I love your colored pencil work and I think the details are what make them so great. I can’t do that sort of work myself so I admire it. Hope you and the family are doing great old friend.

Thank God the station was saved for future generations. This might have been an 8 minute video but sure packed a lot in it. Thanks for sharing with us all.

Thank you so much. And I agree about the station. So much history gets erased, so it’s nice to see some of it saved.

Hi Toni - Thanks for the kind words. I love Wisconsin and especially this area along the river valley near Saint Croix, it’s so beautiful. Hope you’re enjoying a great weekend.

Its always good to have a critical eye, but I think your critical voice was too harsh - I really liked your sketch/painting. This episode was lovely - I enjoyed all of it: the theme and the history and the music and sketching! Did you have two pencils? (not perfect but a good substitute for a straightedge in a pinch). Please consider a series like this, I would be "on board" for it 😉. Kind regards...

Thank you for the kind words. I did have more pencils along, but didn't think about using it as straightedge. Good idea. I would love to continue doing these videos, but apparently the YT algorithm doesn't like them or I'm just not engaging enough because they get very few views. Anyway. that's a whole other video. 🙂 Thanks for watching and the words of encouragement, they are appreciated.

Hi Marty, I like your rendering of the train depot. I have ridden on trains before, in England and NY. The city where I live in Washington has an old train depot; but, it is being used for HopeSource. I'd really like to see trains come back and be popular as they once were. The nearest train depot to where I live is north of here, in Leavenworth, I believe. I still believe that my city would be the best place for a train depot; because, it is centrally located within the state.

Thanks for your honest and interesting video. So many of us feel slow and foolish when it takes us several tries at a subject before we get it right when, like you, we should accept it as part of the process. Not failures but preparatory studies to learn from I think. Many thanks.

You nailed it. It helps to remember what you pointed out. No failures, just opportunities to learn. I should have listened to the voice in my head that said, “Stop now with this sketch”, but then if I hadn’t gone ahead and messed things up, I wouldn’t have learned much. Thanks for watching!!! 😊🙏

You know Marty, I like it but I think we all understand when it just doesn’t turn out like what is in our minds. Thanks for the video and it’s great they saved the building and put it on the registry. Keep painting and share with us.

Hi Essie - I’m thankful for your thoughts here because, no pun intended, this was a train wreck as soon as I started watercoloring the sketch. I ignored my instincts to stop. Next time I’ll try to listen better. 😊Hope you are doing great my friend.
