This has helped me so much! been trying to find a video for simple cabinet design using sketchup and everything is so overly complex. thanks for brekaing it down!
Thank you, my style is a bit off the cuff and unplanned but hopefully you understood it all and took something away from it 😊 Have a great day! Cheers ryan
Haha no probs. It's pretty easy and especially helpful when designing anything with angles, as it tells you the angles and length of the piece etc without having to rod it out full size 👍
Click 'Edit' > 'Delete Guides' for a quicker solution. I am self-taught on SU too, so I learnt some basics from you in this video - stuff I just hadn't discovered before. I guess we all end up with gaps in our skills because we're learning only as much as we need to keep going with the drawing we're working on. I'm still hit & miss with remembering to make every element a component.
Excellent guide to cabinet designing with step by step instructions. Well done to both of you and thank you very much for walking us thru so patiently. I wonder why you haven't already received a million likes yet. I had some initial hickup with the web version of Sketchup. A couple of tips for the newbies - sketchup web version is free for your personal work, so don't just walk away from this amazing tool. Use "?" to open the search panel, and type whatever you are looking for. Usually, there will be a hot key next to the search results, and the more you use this tool the more you will learn to use those hotkeys. e.g. 'o' for Orbit, 'l' for Line, 'f' for Offset, 'r' for Rectangle, 'c' for Circle and so on.
Thanks guys, watched a ton of your videos and they have helped me a lot. just watching you i can see you need the below short cuts for PC. Short Cuts... Delete: click on item and press back space. Undo: CTRL + Z Zoom: SHIFT + Z P: Push Pull Space bar: Select Tool M: Move Tool Duplicate item: when item is selected change to the move tool hold CTRL down when you click on the item, Done
@@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop do you have any recommendations for myself to get into cabinet making/installing like yourself? Just finished my nvq level 3 as a more mature learner so will struggle to start on apprentice wages
That's a tough one, generally you work your way up with a company and learn as you go, and then your wages would go up as you progress. I think that is still your best bet. It all depends on what you can do I suppose. I did that, but don't think I was in great wages for a while. But I think times have changed, there are minimum wages companies have to pay if you are a certain age. I'd recommend emailing around and seeing if anyone is interested in taking you on?
Great video! What would also be great is if you could make a video of how you turn your drawings into how you work out the sizes and amounts of wood you need etc for a job for like a wardrobe 👍
@@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop I’ll look forward to it ! Could you also maybe go into more detail on how you install the runners that the carcasses sit on and how you go about levelling it etc Many thanks 👍
Thanks for the video, I should spend more time on Instagram really. How's the work bench coming along? Have you ever tried using SketchUp to get technical drawings to build from and do sheet cut list?
No probs, I have tried before but the fact you need to make every single component a full component ( not my cheaty way lol) it's not really worth it for me personally. I like do my technical drawings by hand and then working out the cutting list from them. The cut lists don't take long at all once I've done the drawings 👍 I've been using insta more often and find it's actually quite handy.
Great video; very informative. I assume its a PC that you use and not a Mac. What laptop do you use and how powerful does it need to be to run Sketchup?
Thanks again Ryan. I'm just on the learning curve with Sketchup and found this really useful. Pitched just right to understand wardrobe design and planning. Thanks again.
