@@WyteXLighting he/they bought the circle track and its doing great, the drag strip is still for sale...for a million dollars.. Yeah ain't no one gonna pay a million for this😂
Not really. Most places dont have enough people interested in drag racing to maintain. That is what shutdown most local tracks in the first place, they couldnt make enough to pay the bills.
That is because most people don't want to make a day of it and spend to much money. They just wanna go somewhere really close make a hit or two and go on with there day. I live in a small city. There are dozens of street races everyday. Wouldn't be such a problem if the cops would turn a blind eye. RU-vid makes it seem like it's crazy dangerous but very few crashes compared to good runs. Interstate is more dangerous with people driving normal.
@@EmeraldEnchantments we never made days of it either. We always went before or after school. Meet up at Sonic. Talk about it. An then go do it. I live on a dead end road now. I just get out there an play when I want to.
@@Dark-ld3tw hmmm' with some local safety crews that's into this sort of thing and some voulenter law enforcement who is also into this sort of thing I think they'd have a good go of it👍
Yeah...i noticed the driver of the fairmont wagon wasnt wearing a helmet..so probably no seat belts either...and the guy driving the back firing s10 wearing flip flops...so probably wont be long til somebody gets hurt.
Yall worried about all that shit but nobody said anything about the cone at the edge of the left lane marking a wash out part of the track or vehicles coming up the right lane to the track while they were going down lol, most of your safety lies under your right foot and the wheel in your hand....if you cant lift or steer then you are your biggest safety concern not what you are racing on.
@@NightmareOnYourStreet Wish I could go back, some of my best memories. That was the place to go on Sunday. Muscle car days. Some of those engines were modified and built for more horsepower.
That Ol’ boy in the yella mustang really took the salesman at his word that bad boy came with a Roush racing transmission with Race mode gear! When I thought it couldn’t get any better, it did with someone crazy enough to stand behind Mr. R for Race merely a second later to be his roll control.. Gotta love America, and those keeping the American can do it sprite alive and well!! Awesome video Fellers, and the balls to bring that old track alive!
Love this guys, cool to see something like this, and really cool to see the guy running the race stand up and not take any bullshit, its usually jerks that ruin a great thing like this by acting like they're a tough guy, hats off to you guys
60' or so of concrete poured from the starting line forward would do wonders for that place. Shit, if I was closer to y'all, I'd donate all my time to do it too.. It's NICE to see a Drag Strip come back from the dead, instead of dying away forever. Nice job!! 👍 🍻 We need MORE of these around the country.
Probably be best to keep the starting line as asphalt. Keeps the speeds down and requires more dependance on driver skill. Higher speeds result in more damage and possibility of injury should a mishap occur.
@@smalltownplaya712 Coeburn VA in Wise County. Its located in SWVA about 50 miles north of Kingsport TN. Small quite town with around 3000 people. This was an old airport at one time later used as a drag strip. There is a half mile race track about 500 yards behind the starting line as well.
I remember as a kid learning to ride my bike with my dad........we had the entire street and that one pole....you guessed it.....wham......it was like a magnet.....
It'd be nice if some Sealing Company or a Professional Paver helped with restoring the strips. If I were in the area, I'd certainly ask around... You never know when someone has the money and the heart to help out.
I was there in 1968 it was a great little track back then and had some big named drag racers that raced there like the STORMIN DUCE CHEVY 2 AND DALLAS POTTERS HEMI PLYMOUTH , BO BEVERLY cars run there also it was a home town track for him . It sure looks different there now . Brings back a flood of memories for me
@@bamabound2061 sorry no pictures to show or i would show them , i seen my first 70 hemi cuda run there that week-end a gold colored one if i remember correctly . side note here !!! out from the track about 3 miles was a tripple-x drive-in theater oh yes those were the days my friend
WATCH BILLY THE KID AND HIS BROTHER TOMMY THEY PUT OUT THE BEST RACING VIDEOS ON RU-vid TO ME THEY CAN DRIVE AND THEY WIN AS WELL WITH TWO BAD ASS S10 AND NOW A FORD FALCON TO
So glad I found this old video. Not one person with at least half a brain can watch this and not come to the realization that no prep and old school racing are what really keep drag racing alive. Keep doing what you do brother.
That is a perfect drag strip. Nowhere near as many trees or posts or concrete dividers to hit like there is at most drag strips. You go off track here odds are you'll just spin out onto the grass. This is how all tracks should be imo. Absolutely stunning place and definitely worth taking the time to resurrect it! 👌
Love this idea, need to save more tracks like this. Only thing that worries me is the lack of safety equipment, missing helmets, saw what looked like just lap belts. Other than that great idea.
This stuff here is gold.. Love it and would love to make a few passes there. Great editing and the drone footage was spot on. That's kind'a cool and I bet a lot safer with that huge gap between cars. Thanks to all the guys who helped get r done
Glad this video popped up in my feed. Glad those guys fixed up that old track more tracks need to be opened back up like this. My bet is that more people will be coming to that track I know I would like to go and watch them race. Awesome job guys keep it up Drag racing at its finest 🏁👍
This place looks awesome love the old vintage feel with modern racing that's cool as hell please bring this place back from the dead and give it a new life
Awesome stuff and I'm all for being free to do as you please on your own land. But please think about cutting that one tree down. I'd hate to see something bad happen to something this cool and if I was closer I'd offer to volunteer as safety crew. I keep an ambulance and have one of our wreckers setup for fire to do private events up my way.
Agreed!! Probably to close to pavement to move do to roots. Definitely can be cut down and burn the stump. Pretty cool track though with plenty of shut down room.
As much as I love watching Cleetus, motion race works, 1320..... you folk have just given me flashbacks to the 70s & 80s when we gave our polished turds hell. Thanks for the smiles.
People don’t take it too seriously these guys and girls are having fun. It’s low buck enjoyment while an ambulance might be a good thing I get the low organisational fun of the thing. Love it from Australia.
Great video, i always liked the run what ya brung kind of racing. The green n black chevy pickup is gonna be a monster when he gets the suspension dialed in.
Awesome to see this, folks! In the 50s and 60s they used airstrips for racing. Then they built professional (safe) strips with all the bells and whistles out in the boondocks. No all of our drag strips and race courses have been closed because of subdivisions and corrupt politicians.
This is great to see unlike the folks who gave up on Old Dominion Raceway in Va. One of the oldest dragstrips that was on the east coast.... So sad, but this is great to see!
Had more fun watching this than anything I've seen in a long time. Bunch of dang ol ridge runners figured out how to have fun. Love to know when you do it again. I'll drive up from Jonesborough Tn. and pay the entrance fee! Why do I think there's somebody going to try and shut this down? Good job boys!
I love it you bunch of "Hillbilly Knuckleheads".......Great racing guys, all of you! Living in Florida, but raised in Suffolk Virginia, used to drag at Suffolk Dragway back in the 60s early 70s.......anybody remember? It was a great NHRA sanctioned track. Hated the day it closed.
@@badshoeproductions Awesome fellow Old Schooler........it was an excellent track, Richmond too, raced there only twice. Suffolk's track was billed as the longest, safest track on the East Coast....quarter mile with another quarter mile to stop.....it was a WWII runway converted into the drag strip.......
Thats awesome! Good to see people bringing tracks back rather than the opposite. Gotta get rid of that tree in the left lane for sure though, that could shut it right back down.
