Fiscal drag means the 20% threshold should be £15500, promising to not tax you when you shouldn't be paying tax in the 1st place is taking the p1ss, thresholds are frozen till 2028 Thanks 7 bins and Labour +3 points Cons -2 in the latest polls so the Tories are gone where does the right vote go

@@danielwebb8402 and why would I do that when it was paid for with a rise in VAT which has a regressive impact on those on low incomes. Osborne never lowered the tax base it was exactly the same as in the Brown era he just shifted the burden more to the less well off through sales tax. What we will get now is the worst of all worlds high sales tax and low thresholds squeezing the low paid and pensioners

Re. "Does the country actually want 'bold or 'radical'?", I'm not sure that's particularly relevant in one sense: whether either chimes with the electorate or not, there is an abiding issue of parties matching their message on the state of the country with their proposals. It's coherent to say "the country's fine but could be better" and "we're going to broadly maintain things with some cautious tweaking", and it's also coherent to say "everything's on fire!" and "here's how we're going to radically overhaul it", but it looks painfully incoherent to say "everything's on fire!" and "we're going to broadly maintain things with some cautious tweaking". If you claim a massive problem, that implies a massive solution that then becomes very apparent in its absence!

You'd think that the Conservatives are the only ones who should be talking about Brexit as it served them well in 2019. The fact they are not able to do so says much about the problem facing the Conservative Party this time around. They have had a strong majority for the past 4.5 years and sadly have achieved next to nothing (including a successful post Brexit Britain).

I can't believe the Tories are going to get low 20s on election day, as some polls show. Blair beat the Tories by about 13% in 97. But the Lab vote was highly efficient in terms of FPTP so got a massive majority. It would be truly historic if the Tories get lower than about 30% in the popular vote.

In 1997, the Conservatives got about 31%, same in 2001. I thought that was their bedrock support. However, we have Reform (approx 10%) who weren't around then. I can see the Conservatives getting below 25%, possibly 21-22%. After July 4th, the Tories might be the third party in the H of C. The SNP will be 4th and bankrupt due to loss of Short money. Interesting times😊

Well, this was a pleasant change from the usual dry analysis. Still it doesn't change the fact that most of us don't have much a choice this election. I can vote for useless local twerp#1 representing the poisonous pixie, or useless local twerp#2 representing the merciless troll. 🤷🏽‍♂

You'll struggle to find a high income country on the planet which doesn't contain a lot of immigrants. It's not just a British phenomenon, it's part of the modern world. France is diverse. Germany is diverse. Australia is diverse etc....
@Human-le9nt

@@khar12d8How did you conclude that the comment by truckrtfromreno implied by ”foreign” as some-one of foreign heritance? He could have felt foreign here, because of current level of corruption, lack of the rule of law, rising inequality, crumbling infrastructure, low wages and pensions, lousy education, child poverty, lack of housing, and perhaps because of many bigots and xenophobic? 500K skilled working age people, especially the young are emigrating from the UK annually. And, no, they won’t be expats, but immigrants where they go, adding to the diversity.
