@@lancepifer86 I'm not gonna tell you what to do, it's your life, but I'm genuinely curious, what reason is there not to wear a helmet? They are designed to be extremely comfortable, I just dont get why you wouldnt haha

@@ducc3430 oh I just never have and have been snowboarding since 94.. 1894. Certainly a great idea in the backcountry in sketchy terrain and certainly if you are rolling the dice in the park.

@@ducc3430 19/20 update. I started venturing deeper into the backcountry and as I now am riding in areas of consequence I have found a need for a helmet. I wear one fulltime while cycling as cement and cars certainly can ruin your day. I don't ride park at all anymore since I've blown both knees out but a hidden rock or boulder can end everything so a helmet is critical.

That's like saying it doesn't matter whether you break your arm or have it ripped clean off, both are an injury. Sure there are some accidents where a helmet won't help, but in general with a helmet you will at least get a lighter injury. A concussion heals, a broken skull and cerebral hemmorage doesn't. These guys are skilled for sure, but they're also being reckless and overconfident not wearing helmets. On the other hand, without a good helping of confidence and recklessness they would never have gotten to where they are so I guess it sorta comes with the kind of character that makes an extreme athlete.

A helmet won't help for shit when falling from that height, plus the majority of riders don't use helmets in the Backcountry because it limits the vision and is just annoying weight

I grew up skiing without helmets. They didn't exist. Like any other sport, you make damn sure you know what you are doing. Same idea with Ice Hockey .. more injuries since the introduction of the helmet .. it is a false sense of security and some will push the boundaries. No Helmet, Know Boundaries.

hahahaha....so many comments about helmets 30 years ago when I was ski racing as a kid we didn't have luxury of having helmets. 100% of injuries I recall were related to crazy kids that preferred off-piste in a woods rather than groomed slopes. Now days our life is becoming more precious. Guess what after so many years I've got my helmet too :))
