I went to Skiathos for the first time last May 2006 and it was the best holiday ive ever had! Im off again in June! Cant wait! Even though the landing is a bit scary, take off isnt much better.
every summer at this island. The landing is tough if it's your first time because they go really hard on the brakes and most people don't expect it. :)
That's ok. No probs. Thanks for wanting to explain it anyway. :o) We are then all agreed that instead of blaming the poor short run way, he should have just mentioned the size of the airport! ;)
ohhh right now it makes sense =), well i guess at an airport that small i guess your right there wouldnt be much ofa turn around team and i sure as heck didnt see any decent sized parking for an airliner, doubt they could fill up the tanks, sorry about that
Hia, As an grand amateur of air travel I am being initiated in the techniques and physics of flying. :-) Could you explain to me what the runway and high loads have to do with refuelling? Does it just mean that there is no fuel there or what? Or with the power to break on a short runway? Or...? Thanks!
OK, thanks for the explanation. Then do you know what nmf1992 meant when he said "The runway is so short that in the summer, when passenger loads are highest, most aircraft have to make a fuel stop on the way to the UK."? (6 months ago). Why does he even mention the runway? Is that just linked to the fact that the airport is small and therefore there is no turnaround team? That's kinda what threw me and made me wonder if there was something more than what I knew about reverse thrust etc.
what has refueling got to do with the runway? planes refuel from turnaround teams with big refueling trucks and pushback cars etc. breaking on short runways is done with reverse thrusters which are like little deflector shields changing where the exhaust gases go and help halt the plane
