Alpental’s rickety Chair #2 is the best! You pointed out the weak looking connection point between the chair and the cable. If you pay close attention, you’ll notice that one of the chairs is missing. I was there just the other day and asked about the missing chair. According to the lift operator, “it fell off in a storm.” He said it nonchalantly, which makes me think they fall off regularly:). Last year, the resort had numerous power outages and folks were getting stuck up there frequently and for quite a while. Here’s an old video of stuck people being lowered off of that chair lift. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QGTnoMmnbHw.html So being stuck on Chair #2 is not a new problem! 😊 Anyway, Alpetnal is a gem, rickety lift and all! I’m glad you made the video. Best wishes!
Lucas I'm so happy your back thanks for the great uploads, I love the addition of the speedometer because I always wonder how fast your going on some runs.
This was my formative years, skiing Alpental from elementary through high school. We would take chair 1 up to chair 2 and pretty much stay up there all day, with a few exceptions when we would do Upper International and Adrenaline. We'd then jam it all the way down to the bus parking lots near chair 4. This was awesome thank you!
50 years skiing, your vids get us so Stoked. Been taking my kid around CA, OR, NV, and UT to ski as many places as I can afford. A name or a map doesn't really mean a thing. Timing to get excellent conditions and low crowds with the ones you love is priceless. Keep Ripping. Frosting on the cake this year will be Matterhorn Glacier Paradise in early July.
Great Video! The PNW has not gotten a lot of snow coverage this year. A lot of the rocks would normally be covered during the ski season. Sadly the upper & lower "Nash Gate" along with "Elevator Gate" was closed that day. You would have loved the runs Elevator Shaft, Stokes, & Big Trees. Adrenalin (off International) best spot is way far on the right side along the treeline and not near the cliffs.. It's incredibly steep there and really fun. There is a ton of other challenging runs at Alpental. It's a great "locals" mountain, as it's less than 1 hour from downtown Seattle. Hope the rest of the trip is amazing! Best regards, Mo-
My home mountain. Ride 1-2x per week at Alpental. If I remember correctly you missed a storm/pow day there by about 2-3 days. Alpental Tuesdays are popping off on storm days bc the mountain isn’t open on Mondays. That’s going to change next season though. But sweet video and glad you got to experience it!
Hey Lucas not every day is gonna be roses brother, but the collective whole of what you’re doing and experiencing is more life than most people will experience in their lifetimes! Safe travels my friend and enjoy every moment :)
lucas man ur a legend to young skiers and riders. weather it’s internet or life itself, one of them is gonna make life seem low. but that’s just how life goes. appreciate the low points while ur there bc sooner or later, ur gonna be loving live again
Alpental back bowls are what makes this place special. Also I only head up here when the conditions are excellent because it's otherwise a bit too much of a workout. There's no hitting the groomers when it's icy because there aren't any.
Love the videos man! Started Skiing a month ago, coming from aggressive inline skating and the transition has been a cool process. Winters are fun again and watching your videos helps with some technique. Didn’t take me long to start doing blue trails, hopefully by the middle of next season ill be doing blacks!
Dude, T-bars are everywhere in PNW. They are great. it means that less people can ride the area, especially if they are the only feed. I'm not shocked you are rocking the 106s over here. The snow goes bonk so fast that unless you are day of, or next day after snow, it's gets icy. PNW is all super beautiful, some of the best views are at mission ridge, you can see out over the range for miles! keep up the stoke!
Just picked up skiing this year so naturally came to RU-vid to watch. Stumbled across your page and just wanted to say your video quality and editing is insane man ! Keep up the good work!
Big fan man, started skiing out in Utah recently and wanted to see what I was getting in to so I stumbled across your videos. Stoked on your vids and their quality, keep the adventure going.
Missed your vlogs! Glad you’re back! Beautiful scenery, can’t wait for more as you travel north! Some of us will never get there so we are living through you! Keep the stoke!
ski there today! for the first time, the same feeling, exploring and checking for cliffs and escape routes, awesome place, so much goodness in one chair! great video!
Alpental is such a gorgeous mountain. Love your videos brother. I hope to run into you on the slopes one day🎉.Next time you are in the PNW you should make a trip out to the Olympic Peninsula and ski Hurricane Ridge Ski and Snowboard Area in Olympic National Park.
Hey Lucas, no need to apologise for the lack of excitement. I was living every turn you made to escape from the realities of working life here in Melbourne/AUSTRALIA. Bloody awesome to soak in the mountain views and air. Can't wait till our local snow season starts, but first we need to get through this Aussie summer.🥵 As always, safe driving to your next destination! 👍
Hey Lucas, found your videos a few weeks ago and have been hooked since. It has become a habit to throw on a few every day, and I absolutely love every single one. Keep shredding bro, you're amazing!
Loved this video. Felt like how i like to take the mountain... just crusin. Being from KY getting to ski is such a rarity and a treat for me, seeing you just crusing and enjoying your day up mountain helps kind of just curb the addiction.
So cool that you hit Alpental! Heading up there in a bit today with my 10 year old son. Probably impossible to time with your travel sched. but hope you hit it again some day late season with a deep snow pack after a bit of snow overnight. The peak is around 5k feet and base is like 3k or so so it's really temp dependent on how good the snow is. Happy skiing Lucas!
Nice one, glad you come to my home mountain. Both International and andrelina are double black, but looks like less challenging; andrelina is 47 degree. Perhaps because the view of gopro.
4:35 min You are literally at the spot of my first wreck response as a virgin Volunteer patrol in '78. The guy had a broken femur and I pulled on his boot for a hour waiting for a sled to arrive.you need to keep the fragmented bones from causing pain crushing into each other. It seems like a dream now.
I feel so honored that Lucas came by our humble abode and experienced our "Cascades concrete" and the scary, old-school lift🤣 - I'm def going to subscribe now! Thanks for coming by Lucas!
Man clear day, view of raineer all the surrounding mountains, gorgeous!!!!! I have no idea how you go full throttle over those mounds - man i sweat when you crank it up 😂 thanks for the vid!
Wow, that's really technical terrain! Moreso than I was expecting at least. I remember hiking around the area in the summer when I was doing an internship over in Washington. It was pretty nice looking but I only got to see the front side. The backside looks awesome tho! If I ever go to the Portland/Seattle area again during winter, would love to actually get on those slopes!
Damn he's hitting stuff that is pretty steep like it's a blue run. I've only been there once and the line I remember taking was straight under the lift. I did get a bit annoyed that the crowds were crazy when I went so it was like a 20 minute wait to get on the chair.
I’m at Stevens recording right now. You along with only a handful of RU-vidrs inspire me to grow even more. As well as my wife’s photography haha love your stuff man!
Opening drone shots of the mountains was just breathtaking. Can’t say I have ever seen chair lifts like that before, yikes! Awesome video as always Lucas, thanks for what you do.
Beautiful views, the company I worked for years ago had a small propeller repair business in Seattle, I drove out that area several times, refresh my memory, about 30 miles east of Seattle?
Yes. I-90 freeway east. Pretty low elevation. I lived in Seattle for a number of years running my businesses , and it's close at 70 mph. Pretty nice if you need to go skiing. Night skiing, too.
Ok, maybe with the ⛅ days (less solar power collected) and cold drains (slow loss) but less power in your battery bank. Solution to that is increase size of battery Bank. Maybe you added more equipment that needs charging? Could be all you need to do is add a Battery or two. However the batteries you add and include replacing the ones in your coach as well. (All batteries have to match exactly or the weaker battery will drain the brand new battery or batteries) not kidding. I know Canada is colder than salt lake city. Just a thought.
We'll look who decided to show up...🤪 Hey hope the issues are solved if not, good luck. As for the vlog, not a fan of the stats during the run. Fine after action report from the van, but just clogging up the screen for what we're here for. Maybe during the low key days like this one, see if you can get some interview time with lifties or some chairlift confessionals from locals. Just a thought. A great job capturing the beauty as always. Rock on Prince of Stoke!
Wow, would not have expected you to end up skiing Alpental of all places! That was my home mountain when I lived in WA just because it was the closest/easiest to get to from where I lived. Like you say on a pow day it's so much better and because of all the precip there are a lot of pow days. Chair 2 is sketchy AF, in a way having to get up that slope and ride it keeps out the people that shouldn't be up there. Hilariously buying a pass there costs the same as an Epic local pass, haha!
I wish you had gotten some better conditions at Alpe. On a good day and through the gates it is every bit as good as Crustal IMO. Of nothing else though you had another exceptionally beautiful day! I moved to the area over the summer and have been skiing here all season with not a day as clear as the two you caught!
@@LucasCatania17 you may be aware but a big thing at alpental is in and of itself the backbowls. somewhat patrolled, but mostly not, and far larger and tougher to ski than the inbounds. it is somewhat(As I said) controlled by alpental as you need a backbowls pass(which is free) but when it's open it's not even comparable
@@LucasCatania17 through the gates at Alpental is side country.. It's part of the resort and they do control work. I believe it is also patrolled, albeit not to the same degree as the stuff immediately off the lifts. As the other commenter said, you need to get a special back bowls pass (liability waiver) on your phone that you have to show when you pass Nash or Elevator gates. It states that you're on their property but far out and it may be a minute before they come rescue you or something to that affect. There's also limited/no signage and you can get rather cliffed out.. guess how I know lol
Life does sometimes have a way of dampening the mood on things from time to time. It's ok though, we roll with the bumps as they come now and then as we go about our merry way. If we stay positive it all balances out in the end. I do however have a temporary cure. Not a real doctor Andy says all you need are some freshie pow dumps and everything that troubles you will be forgotten before you even get the 1st facial pow shower and once you do everything will be right as rain my friend, at least for the day. Of this I have zero doubt. We love your vids no matter what the conditions are like so don't you worry about that one bit, you do what you gotta do.
Alpental ski area , quite the ghost town for being next door to Seattle. *Ditto. Alpental ski area , home mountain of Debbie Armstrong 1984 Winter Olympics gold medalist, giant slalom. (Sarajevo, Yugoslavia 1984 Winter Olympics.) Lucas looking good, have a safe adventure. 🌞❄️✨👍.
What up! Been hooked on your channel since I found it. Question about the Kliks vs the Podium if you have a chance. Do the podiums have better peripheral visibility? I feel like the Kliks are lacking a bit while in switch.
I don't know if you could get me to ride on those chairs, but I definitely would not be taking my kids on them. Scariest chair ride I was on was downloading at homewood with my daughter and no safety bar.
