@@ChaseDaPlaya This is the same damn thing with skateboarding, it was counter culture in the 90's, but skateboarding and snowboarding are about main stream as Taylor Swift nowadays.
Personally I prefer skiing, because you're mutch faster and have more control. Also I've never heard of ski only resorts as a Austrian, but I agree that some skiers look down on snowboarders.
@@LeoAndVinnyAdventures I don't see how that's a negative. If it's too easy just take harder slopes, ski faster, challenge yourself. That's exactly why I prefer skiing. Furthermore I think skiing is easier to learn, but harder to master.
Bro Let’s be honest this guy is bias I’m not saying I’m not but He is leaving out a complete group of skiers at by are super cool people and super chill also skiing looks so much cooler like the grabs mmmmm
The average age of snowboarders is rapidly approaching 45. Every year there are 2% fewer snowboarders, and you can easily see that it’s dying out. (Except in Japan)
I'm 44 and have been riding for 30 years. In NZ it's still super popular and gaining riders all the time. I still go to the mountains with my friends, skiers and riders.
Thank you someone that shows truth being honest here no offense but skiing is for the bougie and petty (not everyone but a lot) sport while snowboarding is also harder and has way more of a risk that why it is better
So your saying skiing is better since it's safer? Cool jk snow boarding and skiing are literally the exact same thing whatever you start off with will be easiest or hardest it's all the same
Which is better skiing or snowboarding? Who gives a shit? Do whatever you want. Not everything has to be this vs that. You can just simply enjoy something without comparing it to something else.
Tbf I’m hear because I don’t know Esther to book a ski or snowboarding trip, I used to skate but many broken bones later I wanna do something that isn’t going to stop me going to the gym but still lets me flow
Love that they are both amazing things to do for your preference of fun! In life, ive learned that anything that can make your life fun and have an amazing time is a huge win regardless if people think its stupid or love it. Its about us and us only. Nothing we do as people should even have to do with others' concern of ones loves. If i wanna ski or ride park/street on my blades or if i wanna skateboard/snowboard then that would make ME happy and not anyone else. Do what makes yall happy! The judging of others and hate for wha they do is messed up. Coming from a point of view of a 39 year old kid thats been on snow for over 30 years and done a lot in my life. Hard times and good times alike, life is crazy and when you have a good outlet to express yourself its absolutely a blessing.
Im a Snowboarder who went from skiing and I thought skiing was fun until i try snowboarding you can do so many tricks on small lumps and skiing only resorts are good beacuse often the pists are wery steep and that is hard to go on with snowboard but both are really cool the only thing that is bad with skiing is the rich people with thigth clothes
Certified snowbard & ski instrictor chiming in here. Snowboarding is hard to learn but easy to get good at, skiing is easy to learn but hard to get good at 😊
personally, i tried skiing for 7 years and always hated it, never improved, and it made me hate going on vacation to the mountains. trued snowboarding a month ago and im already a better snowboarder than i was skier. its so fun and im pissed my parents didnt let me do it sooner 😂
@@trelala789 I was in a group of people where it was complete normal to take others gear ranging from some chips to a whole snowboard. This sort of thing was normalized and I got out before I ended up too deep. I don't think that many snowboarding communities are like this though, but this was my experience. I'm in NZ and almost all the guys/girls I used to hang out with are now banned from skiing here
@@LeoDevlin-q4f That's not snowboarding culture, it was just some weird group of people culture. But what do I know, I'm basically skier on board 😄. I grow up skiing, started snowboarding as teeneger, my whole family are skiiers also most of my friends. I enjoy riding on groomed slopes, don't go into park, because jumping is scary. I have too much self-preservation and scared of breaking my neck. Also back-country, which I see a lot on RU-vid, seem like so much trouble. I like speed and doing nice carved turns. I am in Europe and that's what I see most people doing, even snowboards. Everybody just ride on groomed pistes and noone goes "off road". Over here I don't really see much difference between skiers and snowboarders, but maybe it's because I hangout mostly with skiers or mixed groups. I don't actually remember ever being in exclusivelly boarder group.
The thing is people don’t like how both of your feet are tied together on a board/snowboard and then with skiing you have more freedom with your legs and so if you fall on skis the skis will come off unlike a snowboard
I personally would choose skiing over snowboarding because of the fact that snow boarders tend to have less control than skis and are much less versatile.
Nothing like saying, those derby goofballs with their snow pants below their ankles have swag… if you’re ripping, some really good carved turns on Skis you can put so much more power into it than you can on the snowboard… there’s nothing quite like the feeling of riding hip on the ice edges perpendicular to the hill while carving at 60 miles an hour…
completely unbiased here ~ Skiing is easier to learn basics and do a lot of simple skills but the more you do it the longer it takes to progress ~ snowboard is much harder to start off but there’s a little bump where if you manage to get over it, if because much easier. Also tricks are easier because you only have to manage one thing on your feet.
The greatest thing about skiing is that you can do it for your entire life. That's why so many old people ski since snowboarding is really hard on the knees.
It becomes a problem when them boarders be sitting in spots they've got no business sitting in, I.e. below crests and such. That's dangerous and just outright stupid. Though I've been told by one of them folks that they do it because it's more convenient to get up again.
@@TheDuckVicky That depends on the run, I'd say. In the end, skiers and snowboarders should simply be decent human beings respecting each other. We're all out there for the fun of it, after all.
What i believe is that skiing is easier for beginners because when i started skiing i got inte to it fast but snowboarding took a while for me to get in to and get good at
My dad summed it up well: Skiing is easy to learn but hard to master Snowboarding is hard to learn but easy(er) to master That's probably why schools take kids on ski trips and not snowboard trips lol
I have been skiing since I was three and then I learned how to skateboard, so I switched to snowboarding, it is definitely harder to learn than skiing, but so much fun and so rewarding, but I am also very bias because of my skateboarding experience, both are cool but I prefer snowboarding
You forgot a lot of factors, for example on a snowboard you have to unbuckle your bindings every time you get to the bottom and re strap every time you get to the top. I think overall snowboards are cooler but skis are more practical.
Snowboarding was the best thing to happen to skiing. Forced them to change the way they looked at the mountain. Forced them to try new tricks. (I mean, I watched year after year of skiers do daffies and spread eagles…over and over and over.) most importantly, it forced them to modernize the ski…they are all basically riding with two snowboards on their feet.
Snowboarding is cool but requires you to be ok with having limited vision on your non-dominant side as you’re going downhill. having to strap in every 20 minutes is ok, but you can really shave off transition time coming off the lift if you just ski
Personally I like downhill skiing better cuz u never have to clip in when u get if the lift and if ur a snowboarder, and there is a flat part u have to jump to the hill but w skiing u have poles so u can move and one last thing, skiing is better cause when u snowboard ur neck is facing the side in a unnatural way but w skiing your body is natural
Would you rather have nice comfy boots but you have to undo and redo them every time you get to the top and bottom of a slope. Or would you rather have slightly uncomfortable boots but once their on your good. (Im a skier)
What ever is cooler is what you like because you’ll be more comfortable being good at something than trying to look cool doing something you’re not good at so if you want to get into skiing or snowboarding try them both on rentals and get some entry lessons it’ll make the experience better
@@wmeuse2375 Not true all steps of snowboarding are harder. I've done both for over 20 years, but most of my time boarding. The only thing boarding is easier to master is powder.
It’s annoying as fuck when skiers go right in front of me, cause then I can’t stop. I crashed into a pole yesterday because a skier flew right in front of me and I didn’t have space to slow down.
As a skier I apologise on their behalf. Most of us are responsible and respect the other people on the hills, there's just a few stuck up elitists who don't give a shit about snowboarders. Hope you're doing okay now, that sounds like a nasty crash.
This is a major complaint that skiers have about snowboarders. The lack of maneuverability that snowboards have means that you need to have much higher situational awareness. It’s not fair… But it is the reality. Skiers can ski much closer to each other and direction much more easily so the likelihood of crashing is lower. If you’re on a snowboard, you need to stay further away from people to avoid hitting them.
I like both equally because of the fact that you can do different tricks so if you were to compare them in the park you just can’t and I’m 13 and I ski so I’m biased anyways so it’s not just for old people
First of all skiing is better because there are also snowboard only resorts also it feels so nice going down the steeps on skis also the felling or powder on skis is amazing also u can’t even go that fast on a snow board but u can go up to 90+ mph on skis.
I d like to do snowboarding, but i live far from the mountains and i started with skiing. I learned it really fast, instead of snowboarding that it's much difficult to learn. So i think that for someone that do it 1 o 2 times a year and never learned skiing or snowboarding, it's Better start with ski
IMO skiing is better, I’ve done both, I tried both when I first started and decided I enjoyed skiing more, I just don’t like the idea of not being able to move my legs around
Boarders will always have more style in the park, especially on rails. The more tech a skiier is on rails , the worse it looks with hands and legs going everywhere.
Alta is so calm with no snowboarders, and it’s the only resort with a lot of old people. And not all skiers are old, I’m young, most racers like me are young, most park guys are young
Skiing has back country easier, more tricks, bigger community, more technical for techy runs, easier on flats, easier to carry around, but “looking cool” is subjective.
personally I like both for different reasons. snowboarding is way better in powder but i much prefer doing trees and moguls on skis. i personally don't like the snowboarder culture though because there's a lot of people who i don't vibe with or who do a little too much weed or alcohol for my taste. but skiiers don't have much of a group personality tbf
As a person who has been skiing since I was four years old and who switched to snowboarding a month ago, I can say that skiing is a finer, more elegant and popular sport, better for beginners and for people who prefer the classic. On the other hand, snowboarding is a sport for more modern people, people who are looking for a simpler sport and who don't care if other people practice something more popular, they simply prefer snowboarding because it is more fun, easier to master and for more people. cool. Personally, I prefer snowboarding, I don't care about having to fasten and unfasten my bindings all the time, falling several times when leaving the chairlift or having problems on flat sections
I switched and took shorter to learn for snowboard and pow days are legendary and my ski family doesnt understand they concept of powdays so sad they cant feel the feeling of cimming 2 ways
