Thanks so much brother. It gives me confidence to help my elderly parents.. my prayers to god that u become healthy wealthy n you family kids gets all the success health n wealth in world
If the patient is strong enough to make a bridge like that I should think it would be possible to put them in a wheelchair & take them to a toilet that has been designed so the patient can be slid onto & off the toilet with ease. Or preferably, use a commode like wheel chair which has an opening in the bottom so that it can be wheeled into position above a toilet, so that the patient does not need to be transferred to the toilet seat from the wheelchair at all. This method has the advantage of allowing the patient to feel they are in normal surroundings & have the privacy of the toilet cubicle. Some patients cannot go on a bedpan, its too unfamiliar. However it might be necessary for a nurse to know this skill for patients with some sort of specific injury which prevents them being put in a wheelchair.
@@joyfulmoment9900 I am an stna and believe me they made this video look like a piece of cake! Most of the time a person can't bridge like that, you usually have to roll them on a side then put the bedpan in place and have them roll back over. Another thing is that most can't clean themselves you have to do it for them imagine trying to clean yourself after having a bowel movement sitting on a bedpan not happening!! And where I work there is always a chuck under them already in case of an accident. This video was so far from what happens in real life .
@@Leleeexoxo So what you're saying is it's not reality. LOL I've been on CNN now for 7 years and I rarely have a patient that can lift their hips. And they're all on the heavy side. At the facility I work for they don't offer Chucks I have to buy my own. CNA school is nice, but it doesn't prepare you for reality of the nursing home.
i thought was just me..this video makes it too easy. imagine a client that can not lift hip? then also have about 15 other clients to attend to? In reality you can not take all this time on one client and get jobs done on your shift..lol..just saying
@@johnrhodes101875 you’re right. In reality youd probably get a very obese patient, who not only can’t turn on their own but is either agitated or complains you’re hurting them. It’s very hard
I give him A for effort. Anyone in the industry knows you almost everytime have to roll the patient, they do not lift their hips and if they do it's not high enough to slip a bedpan underneath them or they are not strong enough to even lift their hips up that high just long enough to put the bedpan under them.
I put the chuck pad on the bedpan so when they done it’s no spillage the urine is soaked in the chuck pad or the bowel movement is on the pad all u gotta do is remove the bedpan from under patient and throw the chuck away no mess and I clean the patient afterwards. Sometimes patients can’t lift u will have to turn them and place the bed pan under them then roll or turn them back and then I raise there head some
My dad who was totally incapacitated reqiured a hoyer lift with a body sling to do this all the time. Unfortionately that is in a different part of the world.
Haha ! He draws a curtain on the supply shelf leaving the patient wide open to view for patient in the nxt bed. Boy, am i glad those bed linens and pads cldnt see the action on the other side of the curtain!!!
thank you for this video. I'm curious what state this is? We were just taught that after you touch the bedpan, remove your 1st set of gloves. Do not touch anything, the bed controls, wipes, TP, with the gloved hands we used to position the bedpan. Do you have a response please.
When he put the bed pan under the resident he was suppose to take off his gloves than wash his hand, than raise the bed. Touching the bed controlla with gloves is always a NO, NO!
I double glove for reasons like that he’s touched everything with the gloves Llh . Infection control is A must . If u dnt knw properly , you’re spreading 🦠
Reusing plastic bedpans is not so good practice. The risks involved are high spreading infections when rinsing the bedpan. Single use pulp bedpans in the best way as proven in UK NHS hospitals. Once used taken from patient and the pulp bedpans and all contents macerate and flushed into the main sewage system. just like a toilet.
I met an accident yesterday, and on bed rest for a month. Fractured my pelvis bone. I followed exactly the same, and now after seeing this video I am happy that I have basic sense....and thanks for the video, many people panic and not sure what needs to be done during such a situation.
@@texasgoddess323 Yeah for real, i mean generally i use Alcholol to sanitize and it is safe with touching body parts, bleach is good though for like a weekly cleaning just switch em out.
I have question as my granny is able to stand up and sit on the toilet chair but the bigger problem in our case is that she doesn't remember about her last motion and kept on asking to make her sit again and again
I am not being judgement but after removing the bed pan isn’t the patient butt dirty so it won’t nasty the bed ? I think after removing the bed pan u suppose to turn the patient the same time n wipe the butt .
@@tommac21 if you don’t poo at the hospital they will make you….. you’ll get loaded up with laxatives even without you realizing. If that doesn’t work you’ll get a suppository then an enema. It is how it is. It’s a basic human need that needs to be addressed whether you want to or not
Okay if patient is fit but the important thing I was waiting for was cleaning themself in that position taking away the bed protection would be problematic.
When Ihad foot surgery Ihad to use bedpan for the first two days and I could lift myself hips up for the bedpan.. So it depends on each patient. Sometimes for example a caregiver isnt strong enough to help them up so if they can make a bridge and pee on a bedpan itll be easier for them too
I've been in the hospital a few times each for at least 5 days. And I always refused to use one for # 2 I used the jar for 1. I would wait til I got home to go. They always said you have to go B4 you leave. I'd fake it in the hathroom
Are they really useing the sink they wash their hands in to clean out the bed pan? And they dint use anyvtyoenif soap or sanitizer on the pan? He was a very good demonstrator
Is there a bedpan on the market that has a padded top? My mom weight under 5stone and is immobile/bedridden. The normal slipper/fracture bedpans cause lesions on the end of her spine and are uncomfortable to sit on as they are too hard. Any help appreciated. Thank you.
In market chemical available for making matter odor less.. If we put that chemical in pan before putting pan downside of patient, that makes care taker work little easy..
Before you touch the control bed and gives her paper toilet, wipes and the caller lights the CNA needs to remove the dirt gloves, because he use to put the chucks and the bed pan.
How about if the person cannot move? Or after the person had bowel movement I know for sure it need to be clean and wipe very well so I guess you skept the last step like everybody else
It's for testing purposes, not meant to be reflective of reality. In a testing scenario you'll have limited time to perform each skill, and a partner who is presumably capable of lifting their hips.
@@angelicacharm5383 Yes, Because in reality this well take you 15 minutes. After all the rolling of the 200 lb patient. And you better hope to God that when you roll them off the bed pan, you hold the damn bedpan down and it doesn't roll with them or you'll be doing a bed change. Chuck's are a must and my facility Doesn't offer them. I have to buy my own.
In video its made to look easy in reality its definitely not eldery patients either roll off as their uncomfortable or for get to ring the nurse call bell or the urine comes up between the legs all different size patients will use bed pan differently and most cannot wipe theirselves the most important point that was not raised is time i worked on a 30 bed ward and hadn't got the time to deliver this tenichniqe very busy and understaffed wards we'd get our patients to the toilet or commode if bedpan went wrong if would mean a hell of work for the patient clothes change and bed change.
how does the patient wipe him/her self while the bed pan is under him/her if their is a bow moment? you cant make a bridge and wipe and not spill the waste, right? especially if someone is elderly or disabled
You could turn the patient to the side and apply the bed pan (some elders can not do a bridge) and then when they are done you’d hold the bed pan down allow them to roll back on to side , make sure you had no spills (if spills change the brief and pads ) use ether Perry wash and a wet wash cloth or wipes and clean the person as if you where doing perineal care . Then would put their brief back on and cover them up . This video was made for state boards purposes only but he failed a lot that is really necessary bold point to pass your test . But always remember change out the gloves , that’s how ppl get UTI’s and is cross-contamination . Not everyone may do this the same as I but this is how I was thought to do so .
I know some people put toilet paper in bedpans or commodes to make it easier for #2 to fall off into the toilet, but does anyone have any tips for measuring urine output when the bedpan also has #2 in it? I wouldn't put toilet paper in the bed pan if i need to measure urine output. Do you kind of just tilt the bedpan and try not to let the #2 fall in the measuring cylinder? Or does anyone have any tips to make it easier to clean up? I'm barely starting out and having a hard time with the sight and smell
Here in this particular video the patient had a urine bag probably with a catheter inserted.. this is the best way to find out urine output separately and it doesn't mix with stool. God bless you dear
I usually let the urine flow forward and try keep the poo back. It's not the end of the world if some of the poo goes into the jug. It will be an accurate enough measurement. Always rinse the bedpan before putting it in the washer.
I’ve used plastic bedpans they cut the skin,on my buttocks, medal bedpans have gotten stuck,to my buttocks, staff powdered the seat of the bedpan, left it on me 4 hours,my dad & stepmom came by,I was squirming my butt just enough to get my skin of my legs off of it ,boy ,it sure hurt ,to get it off!😮
It should not be permitted but unfortunately in u.I rules have been changed. However, it is the patient's right to refuse this and ask for same sex attendant/ nurse!
