What sort of finish, if any, would you recommend for a coffee cup? For that matter, what wood would you recommend?

Hi Wesley! The following reply is from Colwin - "If I'm honest I don't know of a finish that will work. Looking at the forums there's a lot of chatter some saying oil and beeswax, but this will leach out into coffee due to the heat. Epoxy is another suggestion but again, this doesn't like heat. Even Yact varnish only lasts a year or so before leaking again because of heat. So I'm going to say I don't have an answer unfortunately."

Will putting oil and then sanding a bowl help hide tool marks?

Hi Martin, the following reply is from Colwin - "No this will highlight the marks and clog up your paper, best to either power sand or combine your hand and rotary sanding to take out any marks." I hope this helps :)

Is an oil finish suitable for a wooden pen?

Hi Mark, the following reply is from Colwin - "Yes, it will work on a pen. I would say that it's not the go to finish, only because it won't last a long time as the constant use will wear off. Longer lasting finishes would be things like melamine lacquer, ca finish or acrylic."
