Brilliant! I love this saw but we all need to retract the blade guard occasionally for a delicate or plunge cut. Your mod is perfect and greatly improves the mechanics of a great skil saw. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them steal your idea. Thanks for sharing.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that hates the fact that no saw today allows a quick thumb grab of the blade guard while still having a full grasp of the front handle. I bought an old black and decker saw for $10 back in college from an old used goods store. The ergonomics on that thing are excellent simply because I can grab the blade guard handle with my left thumb AND still have full grasp of the front handle, just like what you did. I keep wanting to get a new saw but I keep deciding not to just for that exact reason.
Ones gotta wonder if manufacturer's and the engineers hired by them even use their own products these days! Nice work on fixing an obvious flaw in their design!! And where have you been?? Hope you are well. Missing your ingenious creativity and videos! I've been forced to go back and re-watch all your old ones! :)
They engineer them that way in an effort to intentionally prohibit thumbing the blade guard. Unfortunately, over zealous law suits being what they are, they’re trying to force users to keep their hands separated with each hand firmly gripping the separate handles. Their Risk Managers have them convinced this will lead to fewer accidents and subsequent law suits. Ridiculous of course.
@@c5back9 honestly I have no idea why everyone things these things are two hand obligatory when vast majority of the time, you can realistically only use one hand. It just doesn't make sense for a production machine. Two hands are more for plunge cuts or deep cuts. The legal monkey probabaly made the machine more dangerous by castrating the ease of use part. But then again, it may be worthwhile if guys like my old man operate these machineries hahaha. They never seem to need the "safety tutorials first"
Would be nice to know the names of the tools used, like the metal filer. Don't know if that is the name or not, but if I wanted to buy one (or any other tool used in the video) it would be helpful to know what one is looking for. I think you have just about every tool out there. Soooooooooo neat!!!

Hello there. nice renovation. Upgrade a beautiful model. I watched with curiosity. congratulations.....
nice. now paint it red to match the saw. i have to say that i got a good laugh when i saw that long handle sticking way up in the air, i said he’s not leaving that right LMAO
I know your not asking me but most journeyman carpenters have both. Worm drive narrower for tight situations, but extra gearing makes it heavier and not as powerful as direct drive. The direct drive more powerful and lighter, particularly if magnesium. Really 2 different uses.
I imagine the safety nannies were behind that offset handle...specifically to keep people from holding the guard back, because heaven forbid someone be expected to know what they’re doing with a power tool.
