I just bought an older Skilsaw HD77 in pretty good shape at a pawn shop for $60 + tax. The price tag was $89.95 but I offered $60 and they accepted. When the clerk ripped the price tag sticker off to enter the info into the register there was an older sticker under that which was $130 so I got a good deal. It just needs to be cleaned up some, it has the usual saw dust in all the normal places, nooks and crannies etc etc. I'll probably take it apart partially and clean it up inside, clean the armature and check the brushes, clean the air vent passages inside blah blah blah. I didn't realize that oil would be in that area where you took that large nut off of the front which I'm thinking is the front of the armature shaft, not sure yet. I watched another video where they changed the armature and there was an o-ring that usually comes out with the shaft or sometimes gets stuck and stays in the bushing or bearing or whatever the shaft slides into. I'm assuming that the o-ring is what keeps the oil from getting into the armature/motor area.
That is correct! that O-ring is placed on the shaft as to prevent oil from leaking and getting into the electrical assembly. Here is the oil that you'll use after you drain the old one "Skilsaw 80111." And let me just said that you got an awesome deal on the price for your skilsaw, the older models last even longer than the new ones.
@@The_Shop Thank you, I've been researching them and trying to learn all I can. This one is the grey model with darker grey plastic handle. It does have torx screws and it's 13 amps. At the bottom of the model plate it says "S-B Power Tool Co." whereas some others say "Skill Tool Co." or something like that. I'm not sure how old it is but I'm guessing early or mid 2000s, not sure because I'm not sure when companies started using torx style screws, seems to me it was early 2000s or maybe late '90s.
I have not, but if that is the case, the problem maybe with the seals if is on the side of the tool (Gasket). If it comes from the back or the front is the seals that hold the gear rod, in that case you need the O-ring seal model #1619X04712. I hope this helps. sorry for the late responce.
