Skincare: you must keep in mind that exfoliation and moisturizing are equally important, along with sun protection, of course, I started getting serious about it a year and a half ago, and get compliments all the time now, it’s all about researching and finding what works for each person, and not going off of trends, taking note of what works best, and staying consistent. At a certain point, Botox is a great compliment, yet a waste when started so young (hearing about 20 something’s wasting money and time on it) not overdoing it, and ensuring one goes to sleep with clean skin! Like all things, it’s well worth caring for yourself, and showing that you value yourself! Best of luck, all!

@@missheather177 Who are you hanging around that you think that is so impossible? I'm 56 and look way younger than my years because I've always taken great care of myself. When I was 40 and renting out my house, the renters thought I was barely 21. That used to happen a lot especially back then. It still happens for me, but they now think I'm in my 40's not my 20's. It happens, people actually do take good care of themselves and the reward is looking younger. You should try it instead of being so bitter and rude to those who do.

Skin care is definitely not a scam. I watched his video a few days ago and thought he didn’t really understand skin care which is okay but maybe not a great thing to make a video on. @@shoffman4177 I enjoy his videos and he certainly does research. This video seemed to me as if he didn’t really understand what the ingredients actually do. Like how everyone doesn’t need all the things. Or understand how you have to use a product for an extended period of time to see a difference. He didn’t go into any of the actual scientific studies that discuss what works and why. In the end he was incorrect but it’s okay it was still entertaining and for me it doesn’t take away from the content he puts out that is correct.

I think he was trying to encourage people away from the 50 step skin care routine, constantly spending hundreds on products with unbelievable claims but no proof and irreputable sources. I don't think his intention was to shame anyone for using skincare. I think it should have been made clearer that at the VERY least, everyone should use a moisturizer and face cleanser. But basic ingredients are really all that's needed. He intended well. I'm sure if he saw this video he'd agree with everything you said!

Hi Gary. There are many incredible skincare products on the market. I tend to stick to tried and true ingredients that are physician recommended or those that are developed by a Dr or skincare expert. I don't take the word of celebrities that go on to develop their own lines. Not for me. I'm a die hard Tretinoin fan, have been since my 20s. I'm 64 now, and don't have many static wrinkles. I incorporate Vitamin C, and a daily SPF of 50 is an absolute must. Exercise, foods, and genetics also play a big part in skin aging. I'm not shelling out $350 for a jar of LaMer moisturizer. I use a regular towel every night to dry my face. No breakouts, LOL. I'll definitely be sticking to science based studies to base my product purchases on, especially if 3rd party testing is involved. Great video. Thanks for sharing. 😊

I hope that this does not offend anyone. It is just a personal observation . I am almost 48, mom just turned 71. Both sides of my family are genetically blessed with no weight issues. There seems to be a definite connection with lifetime weight maintenance and youthful facial and body appearance. It makes sense to me, especially after my recent 30th HS reunion. I was shocked at how heavy and old my classmates appeared. I was asked if I had at the very least used botox and taken Ozempic to get ready for the event. I never have, however I do not rule out cosmetic surgery if it would make me feel better with myself. Very personal decisions. The cosmetic industry absolutely uses deceptive marketing. Once the skin is stretched only a very competent good plastic surgeon can repair it. Simply something to add to our anti- aging arsenal. Keeping our weight stable does appear to be an incredibly difficult feat for so many. Possibly proper health & eating habits should be taught as early as pre- school.

@Doctor Gary Linkov I need a small clarification. Skin needs: cleanser, HA to hydrate, moisturizer & sunscreen. Aren’t hydration and moisturizer redundant? U said moisturizer is needed to prevent or counteract dry skin. But if your skin is already hydrated, it shouldn’t be dry, right? Help me out?? Note: only explanation I can think of is altho HA will make your skin moist and supple, it’s not long lasting. So moisturizer is needed to retain and/or improve soft skin.
@Jellybane411
@Jellybane411 2 месяца назад
Your explanation is pretty accurate. HA hydrates the skin by attracting moisture while moisturizing is often times thicker to seal in moisture and last longer. I could be wrong but this is what I’ve learned watching hours and hours of skincare content.
@Teewaggy
@Teewaggy 2 месяца назад
Your skin can be hydrated initially with moisturizer, but if your skin tends to get dry throughout the day, then it needs something like HA to maintain that moisture. It’s like dehydration and it simply needs a lil more moisture. If you don’t want to use an HA serum, you can find a moisturizer that has it or is targeted for more hydration!

@NoName99939

You would apply HA first and then follow with a moisturizer. HA attracts water, so the idea is when it gets absorbed into the skin it then attracts water to the skin, moisturizer adds an extra layer of moisture but also seals it in. I always recommend a moisturizer rich in ceramides to restore the skins lipoproteins.

Face wash typically use more pH balanced surfactants like SLSA or SCI which has a pH of around 5 dissolved in water. This closely matches the skin's natural pH level, so it doesn't disrupt the acid mantle. The acid mantle is the skin's first line of defense against bacteria such as the one that causes acne. Soaps or harsher surfactants such as SLS tend to have a more basic pH which does tend to disrupt the acid mantle on a lot of people. And they can experience more breakouts from that.

I’m trying to get a hair transplant for the front of my head. I’ve been on fin + minox for years and I am no longer having any gains. The hair that did come back stronger only grows to a length of about an inch and it is way less dense than the other areas of my scalp. I am afraid that if I get a transplant the will have to transplant the new hairs in between these minoxidil dependent hairs which will still leave me with a weird thin hair look due to half of my hairs being miniaturized while the transplanted hairs will not have a great result due to the other areas of my scalp being taken by my miniaturized hairs. Is there any way to remove these hairs entirely during the procedure so I can fit twice as many grafts? Could I just ignore these and they would die off since they are weaker? Should I stop minoxidil for a while before the procedure? I’m at a loss here and don’t know what to do. Would appreciate any advice.

I'd definitely be interested in trying out some of your skincare, and am super excited it's leaping bunny certified, but I've never seen it in stock. I mean this with the most polite, constructive criticism, but why promote your line in almost every video when it's very rarely in stock? Could we at least get a date estimate? To be clear, I watch most, but not every single one of, your videos so maybe I missed the date somewhere along the way. 3. Is it honestly, truly bad to use just soap on your face? Like good, handmade, cold process soap? Like what Will a facial cleanser do for me that regular good quality soap won't?
@yveltalsea
@yveltalsea 2 месяца назад
If kids are outside playing, swimming in chlorinated pools, exercising, etc. it would be fine for them to use a gentle face cleanser. Sunscreen is definitely a must too. Soap is pretty harsh on the face, as facial skin is a lot more sensitive than the skin on the body, which is why the face is usually a problem area for people. Normal soap is usually too harsh or drying for the face, but great for the body.

YOU are projecting your lack of knowledge to the industry. A quick search, even on Wikipedia, will tell you what they are. It’s not that hard. One thing I agree is that a lot of cosmetic products, especially the dumb (sorry for my wording) beauty influencers tend to overpromise their benefits and worse, mislead their audience with monkey-brain logic and anecdotal claims.

Skincare isn't inherently a scam, but there are many brands with overblown claims and a lot of pseudoscience with no actual research to back it up (collagen products even though collagen cannot penetrate the dermis, fearmongering about "microtears" all because of a lawsuit that got tossed out of court for having no evidence or scientific backing, etc). I think everyone can benefit from a good moisturizer that suits their skin type, a good sunscreen for daily use, and whatever medicated products they may need to treat specific issues like acne, rosacea, eczema, etc. But as skin care has become trendier and more popular with mainstream young folks, there really is a ton of misinformation and senseless consumerism going on. Even if you have a 15-step routine that you and your skin absolutely love, it's likely those positive results are mostly a byproduct of 3 or 4 really well formulated, simple products in there vs the 10 or 12 serums you put on top of them.

There is a reason why 50s yr old is now the new 40 yrs. Science has come very far and that includes skincare. We have learned from past mistakes and have found things to improve skincare. I have friends in their 50s that look in their 30s. We are more aware of the sun especially. SPF has been our savior. There is a reason I don’t look like Edith Bunker who was in her early 40s when the show began. We just need to have awareness and know that not all 200 dollar bottle might work for you. It can be that 20 dollar bottle.

I would love very much to to hear your thoughts on chemicals to avoid. Products claiming to be Natural but have Formaldehyde, Ethanolamines, BHA, BHT, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. People need to be more aware of unsafe chemicals in beauty products. People don’t know how to determine what is safe and what is a waste of money. They definitely don’t know about Pubmed and looking up peer reviewed papers.

Skincare is a broad word. There are many different products of varying quality and ingredients. For me it depends on the products. Something like La Mer, I can see an amazing difference in my skin. But even with certain drug store product, I can still see a noticeable difference after using, too. It doesn’t have to be a skincare routine with 20 steps, however some people who have 20 step skincare routines probably do have beautiful looking skin. It can be just a few steps as long as the products are good/work well for you. Big regret in my own skincare is that of course I had some severe sunburns as a kid, with blistering and had to get prescribed Silvadene. More recent regret is that I noticed more lines after a period of last 3 years when I was intensely on my phone every day and night. I think the blue light from my phone negatively impacted my skin. Because my face was right in front of it all the time. I now use a face cream that claims to protect from blue light. I don’t know if it is effective, but I wish I had tried to do something earlier in regard to phone screen light.

Thank you for reviewing this Dr Gary. I feel like this guy's Channel is highly condescending toward the consumer, probably the majority of us all commenting on here. I find his explanation of "facts" to be fairly insufficient and are highly biased due to the narrative he is trying to spin. Kinda annoying to be honest. All I know is that I study ingredients well. I have perfected a skin care routine that works for me. I will be 40 in Nov and I look 25, apparently. Yes there will always be gimmicks and nothing is always guaranteed. ultimately it comes down to being happy in yourself. If a product gives you that well good! We all need more happiness as the world isn't exactly all sunshine and roses. OMG sorry for the rant. He really bugged me 🤣

Thanks for another fun to watch and helpful video. Regarding the original video from the The Style Theorists channel? Oh dear. If there's a Hell, one must listen to the voice in the video for all eternity. 9.2 out of 10 on the annoyance scale. Tiresome puns. mixed with affected attempts at cuteness and wittiness. Reminds me of a line from the Rod Stewart song, "You're In My Heart" - "Her adlib lines seemed well rehearsed"

If I get a snack in a promo package, I can try it and let people know right away if I like it or not. If I get skin care and I try it for a day or two and then go tell people how great it is, that's BS. Skin care products take time to have any kind of effect. Yes, you can say it smells good, but how it works, no.

I love this particular video, Dr. Gary, but I believe your products are probably fantastic. Unfortunately, I cannot afford them. I’m 77 and I want my face to feel moisturized and soft. The wrinkles are from my age and there’s nothing I can do about that and that’s OK because I’m not overly wrinkled. I need a recommendation from a pro of an over-the-counter moisturizer. It’s probably not right for me to ask you because you have your own products, but I thought I’d give it a try. I just realized, that’s that’s not a right thing to ask you. I need to find a moisturizer with the proper ingredients in it which ingredients I don’t want to be in it. Anyway, thank you very much for reading this.

Doctor, your own website features a woman pouring the HA serum on her face in the same manner you mock in this video! Skincare *is* a scam. I know because I have eczema, tinea versicolor, and other issues. I tried a myriad of diets in my 20s to gain control of my health, because doctors just made me sicker and sicker from infancy into my 20s. When I was 30 I tried carnivore diet for the first time, and after 3 months I added fasting, too. Before I even added fasting, my eczema completely went away and the tinea versicolor was showing signs of minimizing. My skin started to look near perfect! I even gradually started to look a little tan instead of perpetually pale all the time. Any hint of redness or acne all over my entire body disappeared. For the first time since I started shaving my legs and armpits as a teenager, I could shave without ANY irritation, ingrown hairs, itching from the hair growing back, etc. And I could shave about every other day with zero negative impact. Whereas before I would shave once a week at the most, and my eczema would still rage, itch, scab, burn, etc. On top of it, a couple moles and skin tags started to fade and/or fall off, which is a great perk! No need for a dermatologist, or even any skincare besides gentle exfoliation every few days or so. My skin became soft, moisturized, clear, and even in color! Carnivore diet was the best diet I've ever come across and I still swear by it. I fell off the wagon a few years ago owing to stress, difficulty finding good quality beef after my local butcher shop's quality started to suffer, and personal issues that led me to return to stress eating. But I'm getting back into carnivore diet and my prior good health is already returning!

I have combination skin. Oily T zone, and dry. I tried a lot of things throughout my teens and early 20s, but nothing really worked well after a while. What I've been using for some years now has been tallow as moisturizer. I don't really use a cleanser, just cold water in the morning, lukewarm water in the evening. I've tried lots of cleansers, even the kind that claim it won't leave your skin dry, and they all dry out my skin. I do have a cleanser that I like best, and I will use it on the occasion that I wear some eye makeup and lipstick that I need to remove well. I don't wear makeup otherwise. I very occasionally like to use finely ground cornmeal with honey to gently scrub my face, but honestly I don't feel it does much, it's just the feeling of the skin being extra smooth after :) This has been working for me so far. I haven't found a good sunscreen yet that has clean ingredients and doesn't feel gross on my skin (including the skin on the rest of my body, not just face) or that doesn't break me out. So I stay out in the sun for a while, and cover up afterwards with longer sleeves and a sunhat. I don't really burn, I just tan, but I know I need to cover up after a while. But by far, what I believe has helped my skin the most has been diet and lifestyle. Cutting out processed sugar, reducing my intake of grains, and making sure I work out regularly, sleep well, reduce stress, and ensure my digestion is good. All that helped clear up my skin quite well. I still get an occasional breakout or a few pimples, especially around my menstrual cycle. But nothing like I used to have in my early 20s. I just still have some darker spots where I had pimples.

Devil's advocate here. The theme of the Style Theorists seems to be don't be taken in by FOMO, influencers (there's a reason people who hang on influencers every word are called "followers", they could just as easily be called "lemmings"), fancy packaging and promises made with little to back them up. The takeaway is do some investigation about these products before you decide to spend big $. If people actually looked at the kilogram price rather than per 100 mil price they would likely be shocked. Example of influencing: Many people flocked to ProActive because Kyle promoted it but what really kept her acne under control? The specialists she was seeing because if ProActive were that good there would be no more people with acne. Style Theorist clearly didn't have a target audience of dermatologists and plastic surgeons in mind when making this video.
