The London Skinheads , nearly 3000..came down to Southend on Sea, Essex, England.on Easter Bank Holiday Monday 30th March 1970..
They damaged the train..and caused a Riot along Southend Seafront..
They ran along the Beach, from the Pier to the Kursaal Amuzements and Dance Hall, causing a Riot, and alarmed families ...on the Seafront..
Basildon Police were drafted in to assist Southend Police that day..
Police used a new tactic..Police were outnumbered..by nearly, 3000 Skinhead youths/girls..
The Police searched ..and seized their belts..laces..and braces.
To be retrieved form Southend Police Station. later that day.
The Police plan was that ..No Belts..No Bovver… if they had to hold their trousers up ..with no belts or braces they could not fight, or cause any Bovver...

I remember seeing this on the news and in the papers, over the next few weeks I had a Crombie, grandad (shirt no collar) and of course a pair of airwear astronauts, I already had a pair of 501s so just rolled them up, I did have a set of braces but only wore them once, leather belts better,

@@keithmsmith7539A mate and I went with the Canvey Skins too . I was from Dagenham but we had a caravan on Newlands (Kings) where we used to stay all holidays. Used to play football for Kings too . Went to Southend a lot to work the one arm bandits and slot machines when 'Bingo George ' and the Canvey Seafront wised up on us . The mob kept the police and the security occupied and we made around £5 between us and emptied a boxed gift machine which we handed out to the girls. A fun and profitable day .

I am not quite sure what your point is. I was a 1969 skinhead and back then this " Far Right " idea was not around. We simply loved Jamaican people and Ska/Rock Steady/ Reggae music and having a punch-up. To be honest most of my generation cannot relate to Two Tone because it sounds like nothing we danced to.

I remember going to Brighton and hove Albion in the 80s with man utd the police made everyone with doc Martins on leave there boots outside the stadium it was crazy to see a big line of boots against the wall.
