This song is about the ending of a relationship that was weak to begin with. "Skinny love" means "weak love" and so basically he's talking about how they have been trying to force it and about the guilt and pain that that causes when it doesnt work.
I haven’t heard it but I am going to guess anyone that sings this song sounds amazing so I’m sure you do too ❤️ if you need to use the shower… that’s my go to 😂
I personally like the original song the best. It has much more grit and feeling and emotion. Birdy's version isn't shitty, she has a really good voice, but it's not my type of music. This one just feels like it has much more substance than her version.
I agree, honestly, when I found this, I kept thinking Birdie's version would be better, but then I listened to it and I honesty think it's better than Birdie's cover.
A song that comes to mind when you know you're about to break up and can't really do much about it to convince the other person to reconsider.... A song to cry and let lose to. Thank Bon Iver
I love birdy but whenever i search this song her version shows up and I'm tired of it. Birdys voice is beautiful but this version is MUCH better. And people make it seem like hers is the original
Just to let folks new to Bon Iver know, he wrote this song and brought it to us first. Even though his version may be the less popular one, it is still the best version, as he brings it to us with the emotion intended for the song.
This girl was singing this for the school talent show, she walked on and said, "This is Skinny Love by Birdy." When she was done I told her that she would have sounded better if she sang the REAL song. :3
his words: we dated and she's an incredibly important person that i lived with for a long time, but it's about that time in a rship that i was gg through, that you're in a rship because you need help, but that's not necessarily why you should be in a rship. and that's skinny. It doesn't have weight. Skinny love doesn't have a chance because its not nourished.
It is not just a song but a whole world of pain and repent in it. Expressing the utmost effort to strengthen the relationship which wasn't really strong enough and went in vain. When love isn't there but an illusion of being in love, it hurt and hurt hard.
Come on, skinny love, just last the year Pour a little salt, we were never here My my my, my my my, my my Staring at the sink of blood and crushed veneer I tell my love to wreck it all Cut out all the ropes and let me fall My my my, my my my, my my Right in this moment, this order's tall And I told you to be patient And I told you to be fine And I told you to be balanced And I told you to be kind And in the morning I'll be with you But it will be a different kind And I'm holding all the tickets And you'll be owning all the fines Come on, skinny love, what happened here? Suckle on the hope in light brassieres My my my, my my my, my my Sullen load is full, so slow on the split And I told you to be patient And I told you to be fine And I told you to be balanced And I told you to be kind And now all your love is wasted And then who the hell was I? And I'm breaking at the breaches And at the end of all your lines Who will love you? Who will fight? Who will fall far behind?
i think i fell inlove with this girl at a party the other day. idk how she feels. i cant stop thinking about her i may be creepy crazy or whatever but all i want to do is talk to her and i can NOT stop listening to this song. it helps me feel comftorable and gives me a little bit of hope.
Birdy has a beautiful voice and is very talented. Same goes for Ed. Just cuz it's not their song doesn't mean it's wrong to like their version equally or even better. That would be like telling you never to sing a song again because it isn't yours. it's not like they're stealing, guys.
This song shatters my heart into pieces but I still listen to it most days because it's just so calming inspite that ‘Now all your love is wasted? THEN WHO THE HILL WAS I? 💔 ‘In the morning I'll be with you but it'll be a different kind' I'll be holding all the tickets & you'll be owning all the fines 💔 I💔 can't 💔
omg I don't think the fact that Bon Iver sang this song first gives anyone the right to hate on Birdy. Each one has their interpretation that speaks to different people. appreciate each one for its individual perfection.
@Lozagurl97 The song is about skinny love, or love that isn't nourished. Pure and strong love is the best when its returned, but if someone doesn't give you love back, they get malnourished, and your love becomes skinny, weak.
I told you to be patient. I told you to be fine. I told you to be balanced. I told you to be kind. Now all your love is wasted? Then who the hell was I?
Justin Vernon (lead singer) explained in an interview that it's from a tv show. On the show, when winter/snow arrived the townsfolk would all gather outside shouting Bon Hiver which means 'good winter'.
Beautiful song, makes me sad in thoughtful way, I still think it’s about suicidal intentions, blood in the sink, tomorrow I’ll be with you but it will be a different kind, I’ll be holding all the tickets and you’ll be holding all the fines.
I like all three verisons of this song: Ed Sheeran's, Bon Iver's, and Birdy's. But I heard Ed's cover before I knew who Bon Iver was so I will always have a soft spot for his version.
I'd slap you for asking that, but this song is making me tooooo chilllllllllllllllllllll. Birdy is a British recording artist. A little thin voice but its beautiful.
Good lord, so much negativity in the comments all because people want to argue who sings this song better. How about this, "I like this song. Regardless of who is singing it, I like this song. It has such a beautiful feel to it." Just because people have done covers of this song doesn't mean people should fight. If anything this just creates more fans of the song.
Well, I didn't spend my time going back through pages of comments looking for ones about how people don't like Birdy. Maybe if I did, I would see a few. But people hating on Birdy isn't as bad as people hating on the guy who made the song.
