There are no contents in South Korea yet. So I love your videos! You explain very simple, so I can understand what you're saying even I'm not good at English. Thanks man!

I love skinny singles. But i thought it got a little confusing. We play a version where the winner of a point moves to the other half and the loser stays where he was. Side out scoring. Winner only moves if he scores. Otherwise its just a side out and the 2 players stay where they were. I like the idea of one player always serving or returning. Gonna try that on the court! 👍

My gf and I usually warm up and then do this drill before we play our singles games. We don’t really have anyone to play doubles with and it’s been a great way to practice doubles anyway. We usually do the full-fat version where we have to keep track of everything at once, and the mental practice is as valuable as the physical practice!

The only thing about a general drill like skinny singles is the way it is so much like a normal game. Practice is all about repetition of what you do badly, so I'll focus on drills that highlight one specific kind of shot at a time. Even so, it's a fun reward at the end of a session to bring things all together.

Definitely understand what you're saying, and agree! If you need to lock in on dinks, get to the kitchen and dink! If you need to get better at resets, definitely do a session with resets. One thing I like about skinny though is you can put your attention on certain aspects of the game in a game like manner, where there is movement, and (some) decision making that has to take place. Rather than ONLY grooving shots in perfect conditions.

Talk about the mental game of pickleball! Great variations, but keeping score on which side becomes the skinny side, can be nerve wracking! Will try, since it's really only practice!

I’ve noticed that my friends and I have improved much faster than usual all because we play with rally scoring. So the incentive to make every shot is higher. Which has got us way better at our backhanding and dinks. I’ve only been playing every Friday for like a month and I’m competing with people who have been playing for over 6 months. 😊

I lost so many points forgetting to move after the serve! Good for developing concentration and the habit of making a plan before each point I guess!

I have another variation but judging by the comments people will hate it. Maybe that’s why I can’t get anyone to drill with me. I find that most people are drilling one on one and thus are hitting on a line straight back from where the ball is coming. Especially in hands battles it goes straight back because under duress that is the easiest shot and where you will react. We need to learn to react away from the direction that the ball is coming (and down down down in hands battles). Your game does that with the return down the line but how about you do return down the line and then 3rd shot diagonally for odd serves? Now you have 2 angular returns on odd points. I emphasize that this is a drill so not set in stone. So you can mix it up and play to 15 with the first 5 conventional then 5 with odd returns down the line then 5 with 2nd and third shots angled. It will be confusing but resolving confusion leads to a more limber mindset and gets away from the common mindset that pb should just be an easy game that you don’t need skill to play

Thank you for the video. My pickleball club plays skinny single where you always serve straight instead of diagonal , which makes no sense.

I could not follow when you play "down the line" or play cross court. Can you simply restate when you play one way versus the other. Thank you
@thatpickleballguy
@thatpickleballguy Год назад
Yes, if there are two odd numbers. 3-5. You play cross court serving from the left. If there are two even score, say 4-6. You play cross court from the right side. If one person ever has on and another has even, say 3-4, The person who's serving (in this case, they have 3), so they serve from the left (cross court), and the returner returns it down the line and you play the point down the line.

I actually DON’T like when you have to serve cross then return down the line. I’d just rather play the down the line starting that way. I know it seems odd to serve straight ahead but it’s just easier not to have to move once you’ve served.
@thatpickleballguy
@thatpickleballguy Год назад
Yep, that's totally okay! one of the main reasons I like it is for the returner. They get a realistic serve and get to practice their line returns!
