This is onboard Kenton Koch. This is round 6 of the Skip Barber Summer series and I was starting 6th. on the start i fell back a couple positions but then gained them back and once it started raining and the track was getting damper and damper I started to get faster and faster. I had potential for a podium for sure and maybe even a win. But I got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. On to the next one, to Road America.

I konw this may be kinda a hard question to answer, but around how much would it be say if you lose control and hit the wall and break the front suspension? Like any kind of range would help. I know these are somewhat cheap compared to other kinds of open wheel cars.

For this particular incident I didnt have to pay a dime since a mechanical failure caused both crashes. In Skip Barber if there is a mechanical failure than skippy pays for it, but if you put it into a wall by your self you are responsible. There is crash damage insurance though as well. If you get in a crash with someone else, they determine who is at fault and make the person at fault pay up to 90% of your damages. It could also just be a racing incident and both pay for own damage.

Now I have a question, did you have to pay Skip Barber for damages? How does the whole crashing thing go over with Skip Barber?

A mechanical failure And in the rain, that doesn't sound right at all. Glad to see nobody was hurt.

Looks like as he exits T1 he rubs his left-front wheel on the RR of the other car, then into T2 the steering rack just completely fails - probably from the damage sustained.

How do you upshift and downshift in these cars? Because i know that in a normal car to upshift you do Clutch in, Shift, Clutch out, gas. And to downshift it is Brake, Clutch in, Blip, Shift, Clutch out is it any different in these cars? do they have sequential transmissions?

When I drove them 15 years ago, they had a non-synchro manual box with straight cut gears. Up-shifts were just like any other manual box (clutch in - shift up - clutch out). Down-shifts were double clutch (or double shuffle). Clutch in - shift to neutral - clutch out - rev match - clutch in - shift to lower gear - clutch out and match revs). Usually this is done with your foot simultaneously on the gas and brake pedal. The first rev match is to get the input shaft of the transmission spinning fast enough so gear selection happens smoothly. The second rev match is to get the engine revs high enough as to not cause the driven wheels to lock up. If done quickly enough, you may not need the 2nd rev match. I'm sure there are others that will have easier descriptions.

doubt it, its probably covered in the thousands you pay to get on track....i think this sorta thing is bound to happen when u slap the same car back together...i dunno how it works im just speakin outta my ass

NoSkillzJustGillz It was actually a mechanical failure on the other drivers car. We both did not have to pay a dime...In Skip Barber they actually have a percentage system. If its a racing incident, you cover the cost of your damage. If its all one persons fault, that person pays for their own damage and 90% of the other persons damage. So no, nothing is covered in the initial payment.
