Your door open and you standing their is going to affect the SWR. You should test the SWR exactly how you will talk on it which is normally doors closed and no people standing by vehicle. On top of that with the amp inline you are more than likely not seeing the SWR of the antenna system. Even the type of coax and the length of each piece could make it difficult for your SWR meter to see the actual swr. You should have been able to get the SWR dwon no matter what brand of antenna you used. I would suggest you do not understand SWR very well!
Good deal! Nice setup, I have a 7' Firestik to try on my SUV with a 1 driving 4 Messenger amp, it should be pretty good! FS is only good for 700w so as long as I dont play music on sideband (lol) it will be sufficiant!!
Problem also might be the location in which you are checking your swr. I see that you're right under the power lines probably not the best location you want to get away from all buildings trees power lines etc. Where is bogger's CB shop and where you pick up that worldwide?
Wilson 1000 or 5000 roof mount would work just as well. With that box the 5000 would be my choice with upgraded coax. Alot of guys buy into the antenna scam. Good marketing hooks everyone..only reason to run. Bigger antennas is they handlr more power. No recieve or transmit difference. Want the best 102 all day. Since all the smaller antennas are based off the 1/4 wave 102.
108” whip is great, but do you guys run them all the time on your daily driver/work vehicle? Not everyone is parking on a hill and then mounting an antenna to talk.
If it goes down when you modulate it should mean you're becoming more in resistance. I'm an rf beginner, but have electronics background. I could be wrong just makes sense. He could likely raise Carrier and it would not fall back like that. Looks like a near perfectly tuned antenna and box to this rookie 😀
