I've been wanting to take this route but just wouldn't dare. Thanks for showing us how the POV feel when actually taking this route. Enjoyed the video! Thank you.
Looking at this vid, the road looks great even though its gravel possibly the thought of going over the edge is psycologically challenging as was my experience in early eighties when we took the family Hillman Hunter in for a look see, meeting another vehicle at hells gate(devils) was scarey and sighting the old Skippers bridge and crossing was a stomach lurcher but all in all not to bad, not as dangerous as the old Cobb road, entry from Upper Takaka to Cobb Dam many years ago.
@@sliperysid I’ve been told it was a fire, another of the wooden buildings has gone as well. Such a shame as it had the most amazing wallpaper. The metal farm implements are still there.
@@sliperysid the original comment was about the fire damaged trees behind the school. I used to go into Skippers with Ned on many occasions, also with QPC. I lived in QT for 20 years and it looked so different in the video.
I have ã manual 4 door 4WD SUV with an off-road lightweight pod trailer. They are connected with a Cruisemaster DO35 multi-angle off-road towing hitch. I carry my tent and other gear in the pod trailer. The SUV and the pod trailer are each less than 5 metres long. Am I likely to get this through Skippers?
@@NewZealandwalkerOK. THANKS. Maybe i can come in from the other side and get to the township, camping spot...maybe put the tent up. Then drive up towards that first small bridge - the one you meet coming down the bottom of the descent? I don't have to go through the two rock gates at the top... but I still get a look at the country vista. What do you think? I have just back to NZ after 40 yrs in OZ. I brought my rig with me.
you can explore it. But i'm not sure the road of the other side. I think the best way is giving up the trailer and just bring the tent. Be safe.@@maitrikashin3906
