It's topwater time!
I recently published a video about the best topwater lures for trout.
I mentioned the Skitter Walk, but one lure that was brought up several times in the comments was the Skitter V.
Since I hadn't had much experience with it, and it came highly rated, I decided to test it out!
On this trip, it was really windy and I used both the Skitter Walk and the Skitter V.
One performed much better in the wind and caught the biggest fish of the day - a 23" trout!
Want to see which lure that was?
Check out this video!
Have you used these two lures?
What are your thoughts on them?
Let me know down in the comments.

Ever try a Top Dawg? I hook up quite a lot with the blue & green 5 inch with nice trout up here in South East Virginia. But, I will go buy the Skitter V tomorrow. Can't hurt.

What size do the Skitter V’s come in and do you need to upgrade the stock hooks to either stronger trebles or in lines ?

Good stuff Wyatt. I only have two observations from using the two besides the fact that I do not succeed well with the original Skitter walk versus the newer Skitter V. firstly if you're in a situation where you're really benefit from inline hooks the skitter walk responds much better when you put inline hooks on them. I think because it sits a little higher in the water and it's cigar shaped like the mirror lure Top Dog it can handle the different characteristics of changing out the hooks. I tried single inline hooks on my Skitter V and I even got out the half gram scale and made sure that they were essentially the same weight as the original hooks. When I put in line hooks on the Skitter V it changed the behavior of the lure and I didn't like it one bit. I went right back to trebles. The Top Dog, Top Dog Jr and Old School skitter walk seem to do better for inline hooks if you're fishing around weeds. Secondly the newer Skitter V is translucent and it picks up the sunlight and shoots it out the side like a disco ball. If I'm fishing in low-light conditions I'm doing much better with a fully opaque lure like the Top Dog/Jr. when that sun gets over the tree line and you start to get light on the water between then and around 11:00 in the morning it seems like the Skitter V just does a much better job of drawing the fish in because of its translucent scatter of colored light.

I have a lure I made that I never share , but I will brag it has a unique action to it. Dying to try it out in warm water salt. Only problem I live in Alaska. Casting it for silvers in salt water is cool . Cast to schooling silvers near the surface is deadly. 😎

Brah, the original skitterwalk is miles better than the skitterV in wind. Louder, bigger. I throw them in 2' stacked swells when it's blowing 25 and smoke the trout and redfish. Idk if fishing from a yak changes that as I fish from a boat. Maybe being higher up makes a difference.
