Your channel has really inspired us to try this. My wife and I have been dreaming and contemplating this for literally 10 years or so! Because of our situation, we decided to jump. We just brought our bus home yesterday, well, last night. I think the discussion we just watched is about exactly what we've been doing. Thanks for the openness and honesty. Oh yeah, what the hell did we just do? We bought a freaking bus! Praise God! Here we go too.
We really enjoyed searching for our bus. We lived in Sarasota, Florida when we bought it. Found ours in West Palm beach via Craigslist. We were also watching Facebook, government auctions & Florida school districts. Wishing y’all the best of luck!
@@artsyreclaimed6821 we are in the Ocala area, we have a diesel repair shop and do a lot of fabrication. Thinking about getting into roof raises depending on the interest. Can't wait to see your bus when it's done.
The only suggestion I can make is put the shower on a separate semi closed loop. If you build a 3 stage filtration system and a separate on demand water heater with a 10 gallon tank you will be able to take hour long showers and only replace the water from evaporation no depleting the water in your main tanks this system in my opinion is the best way to go if you have the space to install a independent shower water system.
Whaaaaat??? I never thought of that. That’s a really cool suggestion. I believe we could sacrifice some underbody storage. That increases the time and comfort while we’re off grid. Great suggestion. I’m adding it to my list of projects/research. Thank you. We appreciate your input.
yes I see most people don't think of this then they are in a place that has no water and now you can not shower or wash dishes until you pack up and get water. so you can reuse the shower water over and over with the proper filtration system and as long as no one pees it the shower you can shower every day
@@artsyreclaimed6821 yes you can get the 3 stage filtration system from your local home improvement store or on amazon and there is videos on You Tube to show how to install them. I'm currently designing my brothers bus for him we will put multiple diesel heaters and some type of small wood stove. He currently lives in a fifth wheel
There's a few skoolies out there with that system in place... Sorry I watch so many of them (Covid lung has me on the couch now, dreaming) I don't remember who talked in length about it
Nice interior layout, consider a raised floor from begin of rear wheel wells to rear engine cover? ( wheel well height), Raised floor to house water? Solar batteries? What about a hijacker/ Murphy bed so bedroom doubles as a office? ✌️.
Definitely some good ideas. There’s access to the engine from the area our bed will be located. I figured it would be good to keep that accessible. I’ll definitely explore you bed suggestion. Carla wants to raise the whole floor area but I hesitate. I think it’s because I spent so much energy raising the roof...but the utilities have to go somewhere and floor compartments are an option. Thanks for commenting.
We just purchased our mini split. It will be a while before we install it but we found a great deal. We considered doing slides. It would be a great way to add space. Thanks for the comment.
I don’t remember the Max weight, it’s either 33,000 or 36,000. Before we started the conversion, it was just under 21,000. I haven’t measured our height yet but I’m guessing we’ll end up around 12’ - 12’8”with solar. It could be taller and still legal but I don’t want to worry about overhead objects all the time.
@@artsyreclaimed6821 Thanks for answering! I am looking forwards to seeing an elegant looking and practical bus house upon finish in the near future. Congratulations!
Hi new sub could you tell me how you did the makeup for your skoolie. We are tearing down ours and rebuilding and having trouble with want we won’t and how we want it to look and that would help us see before we build thanks
