Power consumption test! We recently purchased a Magic Chef Combo Washer/Dryer for our skoolie! We have set it up in our home and are loving it!

Since this video we've recorded the following power consumption data:
Wash&dry cycle
1.35 KWh
1.23 KWh
1.76 KWh
1.42 KWh
You probably get the picture. The washer dryer uses around 1.4 KWh on average. Keep this in mind when planning your battery banks!

This is so smart. We are planning for full-time living in an RV. I just cannot stand the idea of letting go of my washer/dryer (and I do no t have kiddos.....so I can see how SUPER important it is for you guys with the kids). I just can't figure out if I can sacrifice the washer/dryer in full-time RV living. Getting ideas. This was super helpful. Thank you so much. Super smart you tested this at home before hitting the road. .......... On a different note.....I want a compost toilet, and I have thought about a compost toilet at home. Didn't think about trying smaller washers/dryers at home, but will consider this as well.

I come to youtube to watch reviews on items all of the time, and I have never left a comment for anyone because they are always missing one thing or another or whats worse music in the video rather than speaking to us in their so called review. I have a combo in my winter home. I rarely use the dry cycle because it is small enough that my items don't tumble. As a result they come out needing ironed. When shoping for a machine consider the size of your loads.

Lol, never seen someone so happy to be doing washing. Couple of questions, was that using a hot water supply? And ventless washers vent down the drain, on an RV you have a grey water tank, presumably that doesn't vent the same?

Wow. I didn't know the combo all in one existed. I've just checked on canadian website and those just arrived on the market. Great space saver. But I'm wondering, ventless, where all the humidity goes? Well keep up the good work and has always, very inspiring. Keep up the good work.

Ventless dryers run the hot air through a condenser which pulls the humidity out of the air circulating through the dryer. It’s a completely closed system. Just drains warm water out of the drain line. Thanks for the encouragement!

Thank god ours in the uk have Internal water heaters and run on 240 volts. I couldn’t think of anything worse ( laundry wise ) than washing in cold water. I wash colours at 40 degrees ( 104 degrees USA ) Whites and bedding get washed at 60 degrees ( 140 degrees USA ) and my towels and kitchen cloths get done at 90 degrees (194 degrees USA ) this is known as a boil wash. And because we have internal heaters in our machines if used properly you won’t get mould or smells. I’ve never understood why American machines don’t heat the water internally. It produces much better results and you have no need for bleach or stain removers

Yeah, if I can get my hands on a washer spinner I’ll test it! I wouldn’t call it a comparison though, this machine does everything better than my old washer and dryer did and it cost less than both combined!

The price fluctuates, I got mine for $650. It hooks up exactly like a conventional washing machine. No vent for the dryer! Hot water drains out of the washer drain as it runs the dryer.

do you have to drain anything after the dry cycle? I know some models have a collection tank for the water and some drain through the drain house for the washer.

I did the same for all my appliances with a similar device (wanted the kill-a-watt but it’s not available in the U.K. so got an alternative). If you’re running entirely off solar and an inverter, One thing to make sure you record as well as the kWh is the MAX current and/or Max Watts. This is because an appliance may only consume a small amount in total, but it may peak at start up which could be more than the inverter can handle. For example the dryer when it kicks may be a high amount then settle, depending how long that peak is, it could be too much for the inverter. For example you may have a 1000W inverter that can handle up to 1000W but can handle a peak spike of 1500W for 30 seconds. Now if the dryer peaks at, say, 1600W for 45 seconds the inverter will cut out. So my main piece of advice when using these great power meters is make sure you’re recording the Max amounts too then you can use that in calculating your solar and battery system - or if you are getting someone else to spec your solar system for you, they’ll need those to figure out what size inverter you’ll need. Hope that helps. I probably waffled too much but yeah.

Why you leave in usa and don't have a gas dryer? They are so cheap to fun an clothes cames out ironed allready and perfect and so fast!?!?

I am noticing with these eletric dryers, they don't get your clothes anywhere dry like the gas.. It appears like it just heating up the clothes, instead of drying it. SMDH
