This week, we start working on building DIY lower cabinets in our tiny kitchen! We are new to building cabinets, but (like most aspects of the build) we're figuring things out as we go!
Our tiny kitchen will have: a large undermount sink, a 2-burner gas stove, a Dometic refrigerator/freezer combo, a 900W microwave, and a hidden TV compartment. Sounds like a lot, right? We're doing our best to use our space efficiently, without over-complicating things (at least not too much). Although, as is true with any bus/van/rv build, optimizing space often yields some very creative solutions...

Great job! That came together quick! Love love love that angled shelf area… so amazing how much storage you can get out of a small area. Looking forward to seeing the new sink and the TV cabinet come together.

Wow, you two are amazing. For never building cabinets before, you have done a fantastic job. You probably saved a bunch of money over buying all-ready to install cabinets. It's got to give you such a satisfying feeling that you two made it yourselves!!! Great job!!! You both make a great team. Can wait to see this cabinet decked out. Great job on the side shelf. Undoubtedly one of the best parts of building your own is the joy of walking in and seeing it every time. Of course, it helps when you do a quality job, like you guys are doing, and it's even better when you can do that quality with little to no experience! Good catch! I have to say, I'll be a little sad to give up my spot when we put in our fridge 😂😂 But yes, it's so impactful to walk into our bus and know that we've had a hand in every part of it. We couldn't be happier about how the cabinets are turning out, so hopefully we can keep up our good fortune when we put in the faces/drawers/doors later 🤞

Thanks! A little, but we’ll be using some non-stick grip pads and hopefully some pretty stiff cabinet door locks that will prevent things from sliding out.

Great job guys. Looking forward to TV install. TV size? Mounting hardware? Have you guys got a way to protect TV from Grease&Smoke while cooking. I would consider an exhaust fan that pull smoke etc down and out behind cabinets. ( Like they have when cook top is built into kitchen island). ps before mounting in place is rough in plumbing/electricity/AV cables for tv....in the plans...

Thanks! It’s requiring us to put in some effort but it’ll definitely be worth it! The TV we have is a 40” TV that should fit perfectly into that space. We plan on just using the normal vertical wall mounts, but if that becomes an issue we’ll probably find a way to just bolt it to the underside of the Butcher block directly. And yes! We didn’t really show it in this video but we’ve actually already run AC power cables as well as an HDMI cable that will allow us to plug up to the TV while sitting in the dinette.

@@JimmyandNatalie Kewl I have watched many skoolie builds but have not seen that hidden TV under counter space. it will be copied for sure....
