Even though we barely missed our goal, I really appreciated you guys stepping up and helping me out... there's no way I wasn't going to upload this just because we were 3 subs shy. I hope you guys enjoy this arrangement, it was really fun to play (playing dubstep drops on piano...? not exactly what I learn how to do in my lessons!).

Here you realize that electronic music is not shit and its more complicated than a lot of people think, also having in consideration djs compose this themselves. The fact skrillex has strange hair and adds strange screams and distorsion to this songs doesnt mean hes not a genius. And this guy is too.

I wouldn't personally say someone is a genius for being a certain part of their career. For most things in the world, they can be achieved just by trying. Spending time in courses and practicing can get to a intermediate level. Remember, someone like Einstein advanced the level of understanding amungst all of science and he was regarded as a genius so calling Skrillex and this piano cover-er a genius is actually an insult to real geniuses.

I know this is a year old but skrillex is basically the guy who made dubstep popular. He did it once again 2 years ago with jack U. I think it is fair to consider skrilex a genius since he basically made a whole new genre of music (I know dubstep existed before skrillex but he defined the genre so much)

Dubstep drobs played on piano sounds a lot less "brutal". Should they be still considered as dubstep drops?

Adam Augustyn I agree they're less brutal. However, I'd still call them drops, because they still fill the same role in the song. It's like how a crescendo is still a crescendo whether it goes from inaudible to blow your ears off or from mezzo-piano to mezzo-forte.

Adam Augustyn like the other dude said, what everyone calls a drop is like a decrescendo followed by a quick crescendo and change in tune. basic music theory and dubstep surely is not the first one to do it, its more impacting in electronic music because the bass is a lot deeper, but many classical songs have a "drop", vivaldi used it often in his compositions.

both skrillex and Evan have got crazy skills ..skrillex for writing that track and Evan for being able to play it .. i wouldn't say its easy to play .. they both been schooled in to playing piano/music ..there childhood was piano ..mine was playing out with my mates ..wish someone told me it all about the music years ago.. nevermind ..maybe In the next life time

Beethoven/Zimmer didn't have to create all the sounds, or make the sounds fit together without any of them interfering with each other to make it sound clean, loud, and thick. They didn't have to have extensive knowledge of a whole bunch of programs that if you were to be thrown into you wouldn't even know how to create a simple beep.

In that case you can say the same thing about Evan Duffy. "I'd like to see Mr. Duffy compose a badass dubstep tune on the production software Ableton." My respect and standing ovation to Evan for his amazing work. Love his covers. But also, my respect to Skrillex and many other EDM producers. Many people forget that in our modern world the computer has become a instrument.. and not all people can play it. Just as not all people can play the guitar or the piano.

Well your obviously not a very wise guy, any man wise enough to be able to comment on music in such a way would know that no artist is even to be considered better or worse if you really want to go into detail... There are just musicians that are preferred by certain people, I love skrillex and i love beethoven and yes they are similar in fact very they both do what ? Compose and create music from scratch, so one uses a laptop the other paper get over it

Skrillex wrote a nice melody with some dial up modem and concrete thrown into a blender sounds. This guy turned it into a wonderful composition. Skrillex couldn't play this if he had 10 hands so what good is it to him that he can repeat his composition on a mac.

And on that note, there's not really any song that's written by anyone anymore that doesn't involve a chorus. And a chorus is, in fact, a part of the song that you repeat over and over. Also, there's a LOT of people out there that think Technological Music is just made by a press of a button. It takes a LOT of skill and knowledge to know what and how to mix just the right thing at the right time. It takes mastery. Not anyone can do it. Try making a tech song as successful then get back to me.

When you can like or dislike something, you either get people who just dislikes stuff because they can, or there are some people that "dislikes" this, you could argue that they shouldn't watch this in the first place if they didn't like it, but they maybe just found it and didn't like it, just because you like something doesn't mean everyone does. But having a dislike option on the internet is rather stupid if you ask me.

People! compared to Mozart, Bach, Rachmaninoff etc, this music is really simple. Get a clue. Not difficult at all. You call this performer a master, yes he is quite good but this piece does not demand a virtuoso performance such as would be accomplished by Gary Graffman or Rubinstein. You think that you have discovered "the Holy Grail" but it's really intermediate in difficulty. Listen to Rachmaninoff Prelude in g, or Jeux d'Eau by Ravel, or Prokofiev Piano Concerto #3.

so, by extension: X: bass drops in piano sound good. Y: bass drops in piano sound bad. Both are equally right as they are subjective opinions. I still think piano bass drop sound like sh1t and spoil the song. You can like it all you want, it does not change my perception. Just like the sportscar example. Do you understand the meaning of "subjective opinion"? Google "epistemology" for more information (it's a deep rabbit hole but interesting if you're into it).

There's nothing to understand. It's my opinion that this arrangement sounds like crap when the piano bass drop hits. It's SUBJECTIVE OPINION. Having 'unpleasant sounds' as you put it is very common in the instrumental genre, especially in downtempo and lounge jazz...which i listen to alot.. But not for this beautiful melody. Im listening to this on decent monitors and the piano bass drop sounds bad. If another instrument was used it could be another story.

I'm not trying to troll when I say this, but operating everything that you mentioned in your common is really basic knowledge.... Like DAW's are things like Live, Reason, etc... VST are just add-ons to them. MIDI is just a type of file extension, etc. Yes, writing a piece for a few instruments and knowing how to read music DID take more skill. Back then classical composers didn't have the tools current artists use today, they worked manually.I'm not saying I'm more talented than Skrillex.

I never that it was bad to like Skrillex. It's nice that you like some of Skrillex's stuff. I do too. However, equating both is just ludicrous. Sure, they both compose(d) music from scratch, but one had many years of honing his skill and training from the best. Skrillex, while talented, had no formal training. Believe it or not, some artists are better than others, personal preference or not. However, since we can't seem to budge on the subject, we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.

Constantly at each others throats about what is dubstep and what is not, how grat it is and how much you hate it etc. etc. This just feels like the Mac/Windows debate all over again -.- Just LET IT GO ALREADY! Individual taste should not be argued about like that ! It doesn't take skill to make dubstep ? That mybe true but who gives a fuck ! If there is money to be made with it why not fucking do so? You guys are seriously equating Beethoven with Skrillex? Seriously? I like some of Skrillex's stuff, and some of the melodies in his songs are nice (as shown by Evan's reinterpretation), but he has absolutely nothing on Beethoven. That man had his first set of sonatas published when he was thirteen(!!!) and continued composing music well after he went deaf (and he made tons). Skrillex? He's basically a glorified DJ.

The chorus in this particular song is literally 10 seconds. Yes, Most musical pieces have a chorus but seriously, this one fails to impress. If you look at my comment I wasn't claiming to be better at composing music than Skrillex. Telling me to make a dubstep song as successful as his doesn't really mean anything to me. I don't have to be good at composing music to say that he's not good at it. In comparison to the classical composers of the 17th and 18th century, he's nothing special.

I'd like to see you synthesize even one of skrillex's patches from scratch. He is technically a very skilled producer, and his underlying music is tonally and rhythmically pleasing. Classical composers didn't need to define every element of their music explicitly. They had to assign notes, rhythm, intensity, and general play style. In electronic music, every facet of every tone is defined explicitly, throughout the entire song. It's not trivial. Go produce some of your own music, chief.

Mate the music starts behind the keys? He then changes the sound on a pc. Skrillex writes and plays his songs on a keyboard. Its not like a bunch of random noises are just thrown together and have a beat, verse and chorus, they always start behind the piano. This guy did a really nice cover, no denying that

You don't understand, The bass drop was unpleasant intentionally, so that it compliments the rest of the song, yeah it isn't exactly real dubstep but it makes you appreciate the very melodic bits so much more. Sometimes songs have unpleasant sounds that don't sound great intentionally so that as a whole they add to the experience.

You should try some glitchcore or noise if you think Skrillex is offensive to the ears. And you're grossly oversimplifying the production process. All things considered, the composition is the easy part of making any sort of electronic music. I won't say it's any more or less difficult than playing a piano, but the difference is not as severe as you clearly think.

Its the fact that people can argue over if this is real or not. If you listen and look closely I found that it really looks like there are some notes in the song that he is not hitting on the piano. I haven't examined closely but some ppl think this is real, some don't

Very impressive. Though part of me wishes you had left out those drops. I don't like them in the original song and even your amazing playing on the piano can't save that, they just ruin the beautiful melody the chorus has. Nonetheless, you're fucking amazing, keep it up :D

You'll still have to hate the fact that Evan Duffy likely covered this because he likes Skrillex's music. Maybe he's jealous that he isn't good with concrete and blenders :-). Also, 10 hands wouldn't help anyone play the piano! You'd stumble over yourself constantly!!!

I agree completely with XxSenorBanoxX. Bass drops arent meant for piano. I listen to plenty of instrumental tracks (Yanni, Nujabes, classical etc) and I also listen to dubstep. They are just different types of music. The piano bass drop spoils what is otherwise a beautiful arrangement.

Yea but my point is is that it's just redundant as a term, seeing as it's used more often as a pejorative to knock artists like Skrillzie while you can feel better about yourself because you listen to Mala and think you're the fucking guru of 2-step or whatever.

and if he'll have these tools, he still wouldnt use them. "All modern music has elements of classical music in it." just no! .. just because they are using same scales doesnt make it a composition. a composition is like a book. a story told you by music. dubstep is just "robots fighting" .

okay, let me ask you a supplementary question. what's better than what? what is "this" referring to? the music the pianist here is playing was written by skrillex, would you say "this is better than Mozart" if you hear someone play a Mozart piece on piano?

If there is no such thing as talent how come some 6 year olds play better after 3 days then some who have practiced for 3 years? Although I admire skill from hard work and practice more than I do sheer talent. if that makes sense.
