Gen 5 really was trying to push the limits of what the DS could handle. The music, the graphics and everything in between were incredible. I still can't believe there are a lot of people who say that Gen 5 was bad.
This bridge was definitely designed for you to run through if you wanted the best use of the camera effects. Also, way to show of the DS's technical capabilities, Game Freak
My first time going across this bridge, I biked through, and being able to fully cross without stopping, combined with the music and changing camera angles, it felt like I was playing through a cutscene/travel sequence/montage. I remember intentionally going back to the bridge later a few times later in the game and going back through just to experience it again or just to listen to the music for a minute (though at one point I got curious about when, exactly, the camera angles changed, so I walked through it one step at a time to see)
@@thicc_kirb6391 just googled it. could've sworn I had it, lol. I do remember going as fast as possible first time I crossed the bridge, and I probably also went down the bridge again at some point with the bike and confused myself now lol. It's been a while since I played this game, so the actual details of the game are fuzzy in my mind. I do remember how I felt, though.
I'm a bit of a boomer here, but I feel the same way about Gold and Silver on my brick. As for the time, yeah, it passes by so quickly before you realize it. Shit, it feels like only 10 years passed since playing my first SNES. When the reality it's been 20+ years. 😳 Cherish and preserve these gaming moments, Kiddos!
Since this game came out, it immediately became a goal on my bucket list to go to New York someday, walk on Brooklyn Bridge, and play this song out loud.
I was a wee little 8 year old I’ve only played diamond up to the 8th gym where I gave up. My dad bought me pokemon black and my brother pokemon white. I was able to defeat lenora first after a painful amount of tries. The first time crossing this bridge, I was amazed. This was something new to pokemon. The perspective changes and the music where beautiful. Whenever I cross this bridge now I get beautifully destroyed by nostalgia
lmao my brother and I shared ours, we had to set up times to go and play and when our one hour was done we were right on each other to get our time to play in... I love this game so much and I had so many memories with it as a kid and to this day it’s the Pokémon game I’ve probably spent the most playing
@@akuilaopo3231 I hold out hope that something to the effect of "Pokemon Revolution" will release, with stuff like incredibly clever A.I that make towns feel alive, attack animations and idle animations for each pokemon, character growth shown in anything more than two lines of text, etc
I think the issue here is not Game Freak's technical ability, but more so the ridiculously short time frame they are given to produce every new game, the paltry 3DS budget they are given for every new project, and the fact that HD development is very costly so they kinda have to work with what they have. As long as The Pokemon Company (the ones TRULY in charge) pinches their pennies and continues to not give Game Freak enough time or money to make something truly spectacular, we will never see something as breathtaking as this come out of Game Freak. Game Freak has the ability, but not the funding or time. (I do think Legends Arceus was probably the best game we've gotten since B&W2, and Scarlet and Violet look really freaking good! I can't wait to play those when they come out, they are gonna be SWEET! I'm gonna be the odd duck and pick Scarlet, because I like the pretty professor lady.)
*ANGRY RANT INCOMING - Children, cover your ears! Lotsa bad words up ahead!* Also, the whole "Game Freak LIED" hashtag that trended on Twitter when S&S were making the rounds was the result of a bunch of ignorant, irate "fans" who misunderstood the interview they "claimed" to be evidence of lies when in actuality it was a mistranslation, a misunderstanding. The real truth was due to balancing, and likely the decision of those on top at The Pokemon Company to prepare for their new Pokemon Home scheme. (And it doesnt help that Junichi Masuda shouldn't have any business doing interviews, because clearly he has a weird way of saying things that could easily be misconstrued or mistranslated.) Anyone with a brain cell in their thick skulls would know that after a little bit of research. Don't believe what the headlines or click bait videos tell you, those are the REAL liars. That's true of any drama resulting from most Nintendo or Nintendo Adjacent games these days. It's to just get clicks. It's disgusting, and I can imagine it was very discouraging and frustrating for anyone at Game Freak working on the games, not to mention the death threats and harassment coming from people who call themselves "fans". At the end or the day, it's a fucking GAME. Grow the FUCK up! If you weren't there working on the game, or if you don't have REAL insight on its development, you are NOT in a position to say you could do better UNLESS you can somehow manage to actually make a better game yourself. Game development is hard, it involves a lot of moving parts working together and a lot of times, cogs get jammed.
All I have to say now is this - say thank you to your local game developer - give em a hug or a handshake - hell, maybe even a coffee! They go through hell and back to bring you the games you love. *RANT OVER* (None of the anger was directed at any of you lovely people, I'm just frustrated with the toxicity and drama. I just want everyone to be happy with something for once.)
This is what's missing from the new generations. Pokemon used to really feel like an adventure. It created a sense of great scale even though the maps were only about the size of a small town.
Genuinely think that there has been no 3D moment in Gen 6 or 7 as awe inspiring in scale or scope as this. Closest is probably looking over the cliff on Route 1 Alola.
This bridge signals the end of the prologue and the start of the main story. You're on to bigger and more challenging adventures. Imo, BW always felt like a movie or anime series, an amazing one at that.
Game Freak had the right to flex this time. This was the second gen in a row to have games on the DS. No novelties in the form of new hardware capabilities to fall back on this time. They were basically using the same tech DPPt and HGSS used. Nobody could anticipate how even with those limitations, they'd be able to keep the series fresh and interesting, yet the madlads somehow did it. Shouldn't have even bothered calling it Pokemon Black and White. Would've been simpler if they just called it "Pokemon, Bitch!"
God this music. I remember me and my family were driving to meet with some family out of state and while playing Pokémon Black this song came on. I'll never forget finally beating the second gym leader and finally making it to the city. Thank you Dad for buying this game for me. Those chores were worth every penny.
It's funny how people were saying that the reason why DP was so slow cause of the thing that the games are pushing DS beyond its limit, but then look at Black and White: Fully animated Pokemon sprites 3 on 3 battles with different styles Castelia City Skyarrow Bridge And it worked just fine! Black and White were GREAT games, but it gets shitload of hate, mainly from the triggered Sinnoh fanboys.
When I first played this game, I had played up until the very end of the Pinwheel Forst, having accomplished everything possible beforehand. I saved the game, picked it up the next day and was blown away by this being the first part of the game. This was an experience.
Lyrics: Skyarrow Bridge, I said the Skyarrow Bridge Is the longest bridge in all of Unova Skyarrow Bridge, yeah Skyarrow Bridge It takes so long just to get to the other side Cars and trucks racing down the highways they're so fast (yes they are) It's so much fun to chase them back and forth again It takes a while to reach Castelia City so while we cross this bridge let's start to sing this song again!
Hey, I know that it's been two years since you wrote that comment, but if you read this, may I use your lyrics and maybe even alter it and add some new parts and sing it? Best wishes! :3
Gen 5 games are arguably the best games of the whole franchise. Its method of presentation is truly the best. It sets a nostalgic feeling whenever I listen to music of gen 5. Bw/Bw2 is one of the best games ive played. It makes me want to play this from the start without knowing or remembering anything.
I remember how my first Pokemon egg hatched on this bridge. Was taken aback when it happened and there's nothing like getting a lovely surprise. My Larvesta was what came out and I couldn't have been more happier. Pokemon White sure does bring back memories.
It’s sad ya know, we got a game that tried new stuff and did great at it. But nobody liked it so gamefreak decided to keep doing safe bets, nothing new meant everyone would like it at least a little bit. Course that’s just my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own.
They really push the graphics with every successive Pokémon game. I love it. I would love to just turn on my DS, boot up this game, come here, and just leave it on enjoying the nostalgia.
I remember playing pokemon black and white when I was 3 (7 years ago) and heard this music this was my first Pokémon game and I just wanted to play and never really cared about the music the now I’m 10 and I heard this and slapped myself for not noticing this amazing music
I know it'll probably be a couple of years from now with the Diamond and Pearl remakes having just been released, but now I can't wait to see what Black and White remakes would look like in this newer advanced age. These large locations are just begging to be on a tv screen.
THIS is the pinnacle of the sprite-graphics Pokemon games, before everything went to 3D modeling. Everything here is 2D, but the extra clever use of camera angles and depth change makes it feel more 3D than 3D. I was absolutely in awe crossing this bridge the first time, and I can't get enough of watching this video.
Man you were four experiencing it? When I was four it was only 2002 and we were just getting to Gen 3. I played Emerald and Diamond by borrowing them from a friend but Platinum was the first game I owned. When Black and White came out in 2011 I was 12 going on 13 that year and got it on release. Such good times. I hope you still experience that joy and enjoy the rest of your remaining childhood
Replaying this game a few years back, I remembered how great this song was, and went to the bridge. That is to this day the only time a video game has made me cry. Except for Windwaker because god I hate that game.
ill be honest im too young to play the game when it came out, so i have no idea why i love this theme so much, it gives me a very special feeling when i listen to it :)
Almost 10 years this was definitely my favorite Pokémon game ever and I don’t know why it’s gets so much hate with its awesome and creative Pokémon, amazing soundtrack and fun story its just a great that I’m always going to remember
@@duckymouth Like someone else said, it's become loved nowadays, but back when it came out it was definitely hated, the legendaries and the pokemon design especially were criticised as unoriginal and unimaginative. It's great though, and it's getting the recognition it deserves.
God I'm so late: I never had a ds or any nintendo console before the switch. When I was young I watched a lot the anime and collected a lot of cards from the tcg. Now I decided to buy a ds and play black and black 2 (becouse they was my favourite generation) and oh gosh It's so beautiful.
can you imagine a pokemon sword/shield gameplay and graphic in white/black remake "no i'm not talking about the chibi style like in brilliant/shining"! it's going to look beautiful and incredible especially when you're crossing the bridges!
