According to a member of your head office, Sky prices are very competitive - yet they are the only company that charge the high prices they do for installation or loan of equipment, equipment you need in the first place to receive the service your already paying for?, I may have my wires crossed here, but how is that competitive?, surely to be competitive, your prices are meant to equal or better your Competition right?, I don’t see that at all with Sky Q frankly

DinoDino It seems a pretty cheap set up if you only require the 1TB box. If you require more than one multiroom box, they hit you hard in the pocket, because the standard set up fee of £20 jumps to £65 , as you then need to 2TB box.Your first mini box is £20 and your second £99, they wouldn’t budge from those prices when I enquired, Also note that, only the main T2B box is UHD compatible, you can’t watch any UHD on your multiroom box, I’ve just followed last Saturday nights boxing 🥊 on BT Sport UHD all around my house with Virgin, as their V6 boxes are UHD by standard, I didn’t have to pay £165 upfront fees so I could have multiroom or a UHD box either , Maybe the Q box is flasher, but at the end of the day, any set top box is there purely to provide the service your paying for! As long as I get that, it doesn’t matter too much to me what it looks like I’ve been with Virgin since 2010 and have not payed any upfront fees as a customer for equipment I’m only renting, which is my main bug bare with what Sky are doing with Q!, as your also only loaning the equipment from Sky!, I suppose it’s relevant to what you want from a service, but I now can currently watch everything I want to on Virgin and it’s currently costing me far less than it would to watch on Sky Q, I’m going nowhere!, Just a few things to consider if your a Virgin customer thinking of moving, I was thinking of it originally, till I phoned sky and found all this out!, Good luck with your decision,
Hi good points but I wont ever need multi room as never watch tv in the bedroom. So went for the 1TB which is fine for my needs, HD / 1 tv set up and so on. I wont get UHD but not so much content with UHD at this time anyway so think I can live with that. Virgin although very good broadband the tv set up had endless problems and woe unto them that do get into issues as virgin support is dire. thanks for the response :-)
DinoDino Never had any TV problems with Virgin at all, broadband has been overall fine too, though I do know some places have had issues no doubt, Like I said, if your after just a basic set up, with a base tv package, you can get Sky Q for as little as £20 standard set up!, and £25 per month, which it sounds like that’s what you went for!, Leaving the broadband and landline aside, I couldn’t match the same TV package I have now, when I compared Sky for what I pay Virgin as part of a bundle, no where near! Sky want a fiver extra to watch HD, where it’s part of Virgins full house bundle and around £18 extra a month for BT Sport, again, I pay no extra for those in the full house bundle, 200vivid broadband, landline and double multi room and I pay less than £75 a month for all of that!, All my set top boxes are V6s uhd , which I didn’t have to pay in front for!, That’s the reason I’m staying put!! yeh I think it all comes down to what we watch / need. I never watch Sport and have had outages 4 times in a year with virgin. Its a good system but im looking forward to the new UI of which virgins is very dated. Any way at least I can do a proper compare from tomorrow :) i did go for £25 - with the HD and thats all I need really and the ability to record. cheers
Have you got your Netflix set up on Ultimate On demand pack yet I think now using it, it is a brilliant idea, saves £4.99 off my Netflix as I was paying premium and now it’s on my sky bill... the content I watch is all on my home page without having to access the Netflix app.
Very informative video. As I have a shit WiFi speed it worries me that all this won’t work for me. Especially the 4K stuff which I imagine will take ages to download. Sky should have a 4K channel instead of making us download it all.
Good video, you sold Sky Q very well, but as you work for the company, that’s to be expected, which leads me to my next point, Sky Q seems promising from the outside, but your probably getting the whole lot for free, or at the very least at a big reduction, I rang Sky sales on Tuesday to enquire how much it would cost me to move my TV services from Virgin, Sky wanted a whooping £165 upfront just to set things up and that’s before your package price. . .shocking! And on top of that, your only loaning the boxes from them, which makes those prices all the more Ludicrous!, I’m sure Sky Q is good, but they need to make it more accessible to people with smaller budgets instead of money grabbing, The guy I spoke to was nice enough, but he didn’t seem interested at all in offering any kind of Leeway for a Potential new customer wanting to move services. I guess this is the way when companies like Sky have the Monopoly, absolutely no Incentive to gain new customers,

kyle mansell While I appreciate Sky Q is a relatively new technology, they need a sensible flat rate installation fee that covers everything, and not a strange strategy that charges £20 for one box, then £65 for another, on top of that - they do one mini box at £20 and a second at £99??, there both the same boxes. . . When the guy on the phone told me that, I resisted the temptation to say. . . .i’ll just have 2 £20 mini boxes please!, The price structure doesn’t follow any kind of pattern, Sky just seem to be charging what they want - cause they can, and all for equipment that’s not yours either. It’s rather like myself loaning a friend a CD, then charging him a one off fee for the privilege!. Sky need to decide if their loaning the equipment or charging for it, because the installation charge argument doesn’t wash!. Also, Sky are charging outrageous set up fees for set top boxes, so customers can watch channels they are already paying for?, how can that be fair?, I’ve lost access to the UKTV channels with virgin, but I’m sure if I call about it, I’ll get a reduced deal based on it, the internet I have no issues with, so I’ll probably just stay as I am. Sky have really put me off with this one, I probably won’t be the only one!, With the likes of Netflix, Amazon prime and freeview. Is it possible that the days of paying shockingly high prices to have a payed TV services installed numbered?
BlastFromYourPast that’s fine I’m not here to sell just to show the features. Unfortunately I don’t make the rules of the installation fees. But sky Q opens the world of the way we use technology. It combines Spotify with tv when you want to watch it. Sky cinema will always have the latest films on demand than Netflix and amazon put together due to the licensing agreements. Further more the 2.5million UK sky Q customers will start to watch Netflix in a couple of months within there sky subscription. If you pay for the first installation of the two boxes it is then cheaper to order more mini boxes on self install, if that’s any better Also why pay money to a company that won’t even supply you freeview channels. I couldn’t live with the inconvenience of having to switch the tv between HDMI and DTV to watch Dave. As I said online is the place to be if your interested, but if it is out of your price there is still sky+HD
kyle mansell UKTV is back on Virgin now following a new long term deal that will include GOLD HD and 5 x more on demand content from them. I’ve just read that Virgin now have almost exactly the same channel offering as Sky, with the exception of Atlantic and MTV Classic. Obviously I’m aware that Sky in general has more channel output if you take into consideration all the dross free to air stuff, but I’m referring to the main payed channels, that most people would be interested in! Regarding your comment on Sky movies always having premieres etc first!, well not every customer has movies and sports and Netflix /Amazon prime is still cheaper, as is now tv pass! Regarding virgin not giving customers the free to air channels, that was not their decision. All providers such as Sky, Virgin, BT and so on, pay a carrier fee for all The UKTV channels, including the so called free to air ones, I was told by UKTV, none of their channels have ever been free, freeview and Freesat also pay a fee to carry the channels, So, when A carrier deal couldn’t be reached recently with Virgin, customers lost access to all of them, thankfully, the fees dispute has now been settled. I’m surprised working for Sky you weren’t aware your company pays for them as well?. So if the same situation happened with Sky, they would loose access to them as well - UKTV channels are provided as a group of channels to carriers, including the free to air variants, It’s interesting to note that none of Sky’s legacy services such as Sky + HD are advertised anywhere , it’s all pushing Sky Q, which again is a rip off to get set up. I appreciate you work for the company, and you have everything for nothing, I’m sure that’s nice, but would you still think it was worth it if you had to pay for everything you currently get?, could you even justify it?, Now that Virgin have the UKTV channels back and have added BT Sport UHD at not extra cost, I’m staying put!. I can also watch that in any room, as all V6s are UHD enabled!. I’m not limited to watching any potential 4K content to just one box! Sky’s multi screen set up for Q has taken a step back in my opinion, because now, not only does it work on a streaming basis, it requires a solid wi fi or wired connection to do so fluidly!, unless you have Sky broadband, The mini boxes also use the main box hard drive for recordings, instead of each box having dedicated storage. I’m sure on this basis, you could soon fill your storage, I guess at the end of the day, it’s all relevant to what exactly you are after!

I’ve always had sky and probably always will do in the future. And now saving me £4.99 off my Netflix a month is even better as it’s on my sky bill on ultimate on demand. And on the home page as if it were sky content as well as an app. If I had cable (it was NTL when I was a kid) since I was a kid I probably be doing the same on virgin. I’ve just always had sky and see no desire in virgin.
Is there a feed delay between the main box and multi screen box? Like if I was watch live football will have the same time stamp? I have excellent wifi speeds

grimsey1177 at this moment SD doesn’t look great that’s because of we watch and use HD TV sets And it’s going to be the same with UHD SD does look terrible as your watching a 307200 pixels (480p) and your tv will be using 8847360 pixels (UHD) I think that’s why sky are only selling its sports and cinema in HD only now because it still looks good and dynamic as it always does Q is amazing I really need to do a new video as it’s changed so much. I love paying and using Netflix through sky
what if we were to have connection issues with our home broadband where it constantly cuts out, does that mean that if we record a show live the show will cut out because its wirelessly streaming the live TV from box number 1?
EddieBarnes your home network will be separate unless you have a sky Q hub..... so if your with virgin for example the main box will send its own wireless signal to the mini and there will be no mesh network so if your WiFi drops Q will be running independent so your live tv will still work on mini If you have sky Q the mesh network again same rules apply but the mini will give WiFi too If your B.B. drops you still have live tv..... The Q engineer will assess your house, if he/she finds that the mini is in a WiFi dark spot he will add Q boosters to the house

And what would happen say for example if 2 other SkyQ Mini boxes wanted to all download one show but didn’t always have time to watch in sync.. so eg- EastEnders SkyQ mini 1 was 3 weeks behind SkyQ mini 2 was 3 days behind... will there be multiple episodes recorded or do they just have to remember where they were at on each episode? (Unlike Sky+HD/multirroom) because I know that they don’t separate recordings into folders on the Main Q box or has that been fixed?
EddieBarnes all recordings are stored on the main box and accessed through the minis or iPads. I have asked internally to see if the my Q can be personalised to each mini, maybe in future realises But if you download a program on mini 1 it’s actually mini 1 telling main box to download onto main hardrive. You can then watch that download on the main. The 2 minis and 2 iPads at the same time. Pretty cool
Is the picture quality of normal channels such as BBC 1 etc better on Sky Q better than Sky+ HD? I can't seem to find a picture quality comparison between the two boxes anywhere.. If the picture quality on Sky Q of normal channels is no better then theres no need for me to upgrade.. Sky HD picture is not impressive at all.. I'm hoping Sky Q displays a better overall image..
Picture quality will be the same on Freeview virgin sky HD and Q Picture quality is all about your tv frame rate Sky Q (2TB box) is Ultra HD which is 4x the detail of HD But Q features are so much more better the HD Better quality TV guide Record 6 and watch a 7th. Mini boxes Wi-Fi functionality RU-vid VEVO Spotify and coming in the next few weeks Netflix Netflix and Spotify will be integrated on your sky bill come the end of the year too I would advise anyone to move to Q it’s a whole entertainment box in one Your picture quality is all down to your tv not what you use But sky enhance the cinema channels in sound and picture (especially if you get the sound box)
kyle mansell Can’t say I agree, unless something has changed. Before I finished with Sky in 2011, I had upgraded to Sky + HD, and they sent me a box made by Amstrad. Not only did it feel cheap compared to my original Sky + Box, but the standard channels looked terrible, HD channels looked great though! The box appeared not to upscale SD content very well at all. As I said, that may be a thing of the past now with Q, but it certainly never used to be, My picture on Virgin has been fine across the board, in fact, when watching certain channels, the SD versions look nearly as good as the HD variants!
Well we all don’t have Virgin built into our areas. Hit me back up when they start throttling you. Had an increase to 80Mbps now. Does the job Streams UHD play games and us our phones all at the same time.
