The first weekend of the Championship season, 4 matches were televised over three days (Friday to Sunday) the average television viewer numbers for the first three games was 550,000. For the Sunday game, 1.2m. And that's why Sky have to suck up any criticism.
I grew up in the era prior to Sky taking over football in England. They hate the fans, they love money and their coverage of the game constantly panders to the lowest common denominator. They deploy Jeff Stelling to spout tons of absolutely meaningless statistics while ignoring the one salient fact in football: Man Citeh’s grotesque levels of spending and financial doping which makes it impossible for anyone else except Man Citeh to win the PL. Sky and their ilk are a blight on football.
This is what you get when you let money rule the game. They're interested in fans in Singapore, not your average bloke who wants to take his family to a game and they treat the game as if it never existed before Sky turned up. They don't give a toss about clubs that aren't in the top 8 or 9 or the premier league - how much money gets down to grass roots football ? Go and watch your local non-league side - it's a far better experience and you get treated like a family friend.

As a Villa Fan it's annoying to see other FA's moving fixtures to benefit their teams in Europe as they don't have to deal with Sky and TNT but we can't like seriously most weeks with a European game (shocking officiating in the Europa Conference League it makes English refs look good btw) we're playing two teams who had the week off in one week most of them Thursday Sunday apart from the Liverpool game which is Monday which is odd. Football is all about the money these days sadly they don't care about the fans or the players well being. You can look at UEFA and FIFA messing around with their competitions to add more games not for the benefit of the fans or the players but for money. Plus in England for the legal routes we're paying more to watch football in this country whilst getting less games on the telly in Germany and the US for example they pay less and get more games that's partly due to Saturday 3pm Blackout but still they're robbing us blind. Clubs should start their own service instead fans only pay for what games they want to watch it pays the clubs directly and it gives more freedom so the fixtures are only moved when necessary like a cup run be it domestic or continental. The service would need a lot of work given the state of some currently including mine VillaTV is *hit quite frankly but given it will be a decent revenue source they would improve it if it came to that surely. That's my two cents on the matter good luck in the playoffs.
A stat person could estimate the % that affects teams of moved-fixtures. All the differences between normal and rescheduled match performances. And then launch legal proceedings against Sky for damages caused. In this case, moving around a team of youngsters off-schedule tens of times over, causing a disproportionate and disparaging disadvantage for Leeds versus all their competitors across the entirety of the competition.

As soon as sky sports struck a deal for premier league in the 90's. The game died that year, it's only for profit ,players would be more interested if they were payed a couple of thousand a week, as a Liverpool fan.i have not watched one match this year

I blame TV for the gap between the Old Firm and all the other teams in Scotland. Celtic and Rangers are always on TV. All their away games are on TV, and the other teams are only on TV when they play the Glasgow clubs. The broadcasters even decline to broadcast the Edinburgh Derby, which is Hibs V Hearts. They probably won't be interested in the Dundee Derby next season. I say TV money has been ruining Scottish football since the 1998-99 season, which is when Scottish football started copying English football.
We need a cross club supporter movement. If enough fans from each club in the football league and the PL protest by making more noise and then doing mass walkouts live on Sky, the pundits have to address it at half time and after the match. With half empty stadiums, they have to listen. With protests outside stadiums, and even large cross club protests in big cities like Manchester, Liverpool, London, they have to listen. It’s time for us to stop rolling over and taking it and fight back together, as one. People like you can do this by contacting other RU-vidrs and podcasters from other clubs and you can all call for fans to join this movement and to protest being treated like shit.

Sympathy is hard to come by. When the Premiership first sold the TV rights all those years ago those of us in the lower leagues said it was a slippery slope. Time after time the Premiership sucked up the revenue, that extended slightly with the creation of the Championship but the revenue stayed in the top tier. The cost of players ramped up, billions are spent on players but that’s only possible with TV money and the big sponsorships that come with it. That transfer money didn’t and hasn’t trickled down, grassroots football isn’t benefitting from the money that’s awash in the top tier. The Premier League is the most popular league globally, it is comfortably the strongest league in the world, it commands so much money that the fans are irrelevant, they get to call the shots. How many of the big teams struggled during COVID? Fans through the turnstiles just aren’t the place for big sums of money. So selling the soul of English football to Sky way back in the mists of time was exactly what we predicted. To try and put the genie back in the bottle is impossible. So as I said at the start, sympathy is hard to come by when lower league fans have been talking about the dangers for decades, the big teams and their fans celebrated their doubles, trebles, season after season and enjoyed the trappings, we watched our national sport become a financial mess, teams gambling on promotion, overspending in an attempt to catch the golden goose, clubs going into administration, clubs carrying debt that the irresponsible owners saddled them with, the loss of grounds, separation of fans and teams, all in the name of getting a shot at the TV money. This decay started decades ago.

I don’t like Sky but it’s the clubs that agreed the contract. When the new deal came up they could have easily said no and renegotiated. Sadly greed takes over and the clubs sell their souls to the TV broadcasters.
I don’t care about when matches are played. I just want cheaper prices. The cost of watching football is an absolute joke. If I want to watch football on TV, I need to subscribe to Sky and bloody TNT sports which is an astronomical amount each month. I wish football was only shown on free TV like ITV or BBC. If I want to actually go to live games, I have zero chance of getting a season ticket and have to pay ridiculous amounts on ticket tout websites to get a ticket for an average premier league game.
There are quite a few things that could be brought in to limit Sky’s options: Shouldn’t there be a maximum number of games changed for tv per club each season? The fees should be higher. Sky should have to pay for everybody’s increased costs around a change, fans as well as clubs. Clubs shouldn’t sell tickets for matches before a decision about when it is played is made. Once a game date is set, it can’t be changed. Matches should only be played within a time limit of the original kick-off, say, 24 hours. Or within a pre-agreed range, say Saturday 11.00am until Sunday 9.00pm. I hate Leeds playing on Friday or Monday evening. Fans should have to be consulted about all changes.
There is a cap on how many times each club can be on T.V per season out with cup games thar has been in places since at least 2000 but the number of games per club is ridiculously high because they know the bigger clubs in the E.F.L say Leeds United for example actact the most eyeballs looking at there adds its all a numbers game unfortunately.

League of Ireland fan here . Took us years to recover from sky They used money of course we all got floodlights and our games were moved to Friday 7:45 kick offs rather than Sunday 3:00. Happened in the 90s . Dont let that VAR thing in.. Keep football real. Hope ya enjoy the rest of the season.
the 3 pm blackout is the dumbest thing in existence and that's what's causing all of this rescheduling. that doesn't negate the fact that sky tv is indeed effing shit.
The complaints need to be directed towards the Clubs and Football authorities, not the broadcasters. I've had this discussion with other people who fail to understand that the broadcasting contracts are written by the rights holders (as in who sells the product), not the broadcasters! If you want to have more restrictions / controls over what broadcasters can do, then you need to write that into the Tender documents, so that any potential buyers (like Sky) can factor these into the value that they are prepared to pay. This is pretty simple for any type of contract, yet too many people complain about a company doing exactly what they are allowed to do, instead of looking at how that position came to be.
My first game attended and World Cup? 1962 Chile and Millwall. Saw the first MOTD: in 1964: Liverpool 5 Arsenal 0 where the cameras showed 28,000 singing and swaying in The Kop.Memorable Scenes. They are COMPLETELY USELESS. They USED to show players running to the crowd so you see The Holy Communion of Players and fans. Now the angle is from the stands, cutting out the crowd. They fail to demonstrate special fan occasions by zooming in on a few individuals totally ignoring a sea of colour and activity. Then, the sheer laziness of shoving the camera up the noses of 4 people in the front row and getting them to perform, missing the whole of the crowd out. Penalties showed the Taker, Goalie, Crowd and other players on the edge of the area. Now, often, they cut out the potential encroachers and fans and show the BACK of the penalty taker.PATHETIC.

Whole stadiums of fans signing 'Sky TV is f***ing sh*t' is a good start, but it needs to be backed up with mass non-payment of subscription fees across society, and non-attendance of matches. As an American Womens Soccer fan (NWSL), we can play almost anytime between 7:30 PM Friday night until 6 PM Sunday evening. There are games that are 10 PM ET due to being played 4000 Kilometers from home market (Washington, DC vs Portland, OR for example). The main difference in this is when the schedule comes out (60 days from start of season) that time doesn’t change unless it’s weather related. This sounds like the NFL (US tackle football) schedules. Most of the prime time games can be changed two weeks ahead of Time if your team is bad. That is annoying. What I think is that if a EFL match gets changed it should be with a minimum of four weeks ahead of time. This would give time for fans to adjust and change plans.
As soon as the premier league was formed and sold the rights to sky that was the beginning of the end for football. The irony is that ITV were the main bidders until Alan Surgar who wanted to sell satellite dishes.
Only way around it if the was a mass boycott. Again though it is the fans that miss out, but if Sky and the clubs were not earning money I suspect it wouldn't take them long to come around to our way of thinking
The only problem with that is clubs dont care about local fans they only care about fans that watch games from far off places like North America , Singapore, Mexico , Brazil people they can exploit money from on a global scale. That is modern football & I included clubs all the way down to National Leagues North & South dont forget for fans abroad all games are live down to that level as we have National League T.V streaming service something that was Wrexham's brainchild. So how do you compat that. Clubs could not give a dam about someone that lives in the vasinity of there local football club they only care about exploiting fans in far off country's. If we get to a time whare country League games are televised the ball is well & truly burst & we can all find something else to do that is not football related at that point.
Yes the fans don't matter for a long time now , you would have to pay me to attend a football match . I remember my first match at Stoke it was half a crown to get in , John Richie , John Farmer , Tony Allen , Peter Dobing , Roy Vernon , George Best , Bobby Charlton, Dennis Law , David herd , just to name a few of the greats playing that day , and you could relate to them and they were approachable . There is no loyalty to the fans its about money turn a sport into a business and that's the outcome .
Supply and demand. No one HAS to watch games. I do hate the Friday night, Saturday lunchtime, Saturday 3pm, Saturday 5.30pm, various Sunday times, Monday night and sometimes Tuesday weekend fixture mess. Just get back to Saturday 3pm and Sunday 4pm at same time. Easier for fan transport and fairer with teams not knowing what is going elsewhere. I haven't owned skysports in 20 years. Getting a cheap streaming box next season.
On the footballing side, everyone can see that, if you get into Europe and you are not part of the big 4,5,6. you'll struggle throughout the next season with injuries and because of financial rules you are unable to buy quality. To do well in both the league and Europe you need maybe 7-8 new players

This couldn’t be further from the mark - Sky Sports and the BBC are anti-London. They prop up Northern teams and constantly mouth negative stories and straight up lies against Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs. They forget that culturally. London has 7 PL clubs and should be accommodated to as the capital.
Putting aside the fact that tV deals always inconvenience fans, the money is a band aid over a bullet wound. Football is uncompetitive and a financial basket case and needs serious financial controls put in place. Instant zero tolerance sanctions for clubs that spend beyond their means (an Italy style instant demotion would be my choice), and hard salary and wage caps for all clubs. To level the playing field the smallest club in each division could be the benchmark. I've heard the argument of "it'll effect footballs marketability" and "but the best players the world will be put off" I'll be frank, I don't care about the tourists or the entertainment seeking casual overseas fans, this is OUR game and it needs saving. I'll happily go back to the muck and nettles of the old division one, 4-4-2, and fat bastard centre forwards from northern mining towns if it means a financially sustainable pyramid with all it's members well run and stable.

Cards on the table, Sky was set up to cater to the thousands of Liverpool and Man Utd fans who attend one or two matches a season, both become tourist clubs, and it`s more like a day trip to Alton Towers than a football match, with hundreds of fans coming out the club shops with bags full of tat. the FFP rules are a farce, nobody cared about that when Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal were going for the league, all of a sudden the monopoly clubs have been challenged by the likes of Chelsea, Man City and now Newcastle, and all of a sudden it`s a problem. FFP does not help promoted clubs one bit. the whole thing stinks.
a few yrs back, Sky asked Prem lge for 5mins extra half time, im guessing for more adverts or silly presenter pitch walks.. im glad ppl saw sense back then & said no, but you can see the game being slowly turned into events like the american sports. Sky & friends have the evidence to smash var & its failures.. but never go to question things like that & presenters have been told to say things or wear badges about other subjects.. or quit. Some interviews afterwards have highlighted exactly where these tv companies stand & how they are part of a bigger problem.
Football's over, as we once knew it, mate. Sky, money, greed, and the exploitation of fans, have seen it wrestled from the working man and local communities, into the hands, and complete control of multi billion dollar entities, who have absolutely no interest in football whatsoever, and would switch to "power slap" or "topless darts", in a heartbeat, if that brought in more revenue( for them). I'm a ex Blackburn Rovers and Manchester United Academy player, and have loved, and was invested in the game with ever fiber of my being. I had a man city season ticket for over 15 years( when we were shite). I can't get enthused anymore it anymore. Even as a Mancunian, and a Man City fan. Football has lost it's sole. Kids won't understand what I'm saying, but people in their late forties, like me, remember when football was a community, and a working man's sport. Not a means to exploit loyal fans, who are truly the heartbeat of every club.
Sky are only part of the picture. Primarily this is an issue about the PL and the fact that it was created to channel funds towards the biggest clubs. We're now at a point where the fans of clubs are nothing more than window dressing - and what is important is that TV rights in Malaysia, Philippines etc are bought for top dollar. Ordinary fans of ordinary clubs (ie not Big Six) are expendable - indeed, those clubs are expendable and all their histories, heritage and communities are just as expendable. I still love the Blades - after 50 years of going to Bramall Lane - but I've had it with football. What's the point of paying to hope your team gets to the highest level - where it's no longer a fair contest as the results have been bought by the owners billions during the transfer window.
My club in scotland plays in the championship, and every game is almost always on 3pm on a sat. However, they did allow the bbc to broadcast games occasionally on a friday night. Reducing crowds and the match experience. The top league in scotland is completely rangers and celtic dominated. Hardly any games are 3pm on a sat.

Mel Morris tried this whilst at Derby, he wanted to have rams home and away games available live on a subscription basis. But the EFL blocked all his attempts, you could still subscribe if you lived aboard just not in UK.
The ongoing blackout for matches at 3pm is bonkers in this day and age. I don't believe there's any evidence that football matches being televised lowers attendances, even at lower league levels. Going to a match is an event and occasion in of itself that people will pay good money to attend.
You do realise that 90% of rearrange fixtures come on police advice, not television companies, and Friday night football wouldn't be a thing if the 20 Premier League clubs didn't decide to sell that as a timeslot.
As a Leeds fan i think we're privileged to have a choice of LUTV, where you pay the club to watch delayed replay of full matches or buy match pass to watch live. As i live outside Leeds and no Leeds fans around i usually watch at home. Plus we've got great commentary for the club not the 💩 we have to put up with at TV stations. Everyone hates us and they do try to get their point across during the game. Why, really, do i have to pay to put to with that while i can pay directly to the club.
i'm a Barrow supporter and i will not be getting a season ticket next season due to this sky deal as some fixtures will be re arranged and it may not be convenient for me, we are a small club(just back in the football league a few years ago after a 48 year absence) and we need all the cash we can get but i will not contribute to sky's coffers on principle, they have wrecked english football and now control it, i'm fairly old and one of the things i greatly miss is the old last day of the season when everyone played at 3PM on a saturday afternoon (usually the case apart from when english clubs were in european finals) there was great excitement and because it was more of a level playing field back then often issues would go to the wire, that is now gone, there are many things i hate about the modern game(how long have you got?) but sky's domination and control of it is one of the worst aspects, sky have wrecked english football and the rich just get richer and they don't care about the rest despite this so called deal, sky play on the loyalty of supporters and so it goes, many people have had enough of it though and i'm one of them, stuff sky sports with their woke b******t and hypocrisy, i want no part of it, my love for football is gradually disappearing, i get far more pleasure from watching old classic(mainly 70s, my era) footage and reading about and listening to old players than i do from the sanitised modern version of our game
Crappy hotels and B & B's that would otherwise have no chance of filling vacancies love it when rail services cancel the last train. We will see when the match times are released if they have adjusted matches from start of the season to the end or if later games are all provisionally set at 15:00 on Saturday.
I think this is the thin edge of the wedge. Fans will be upset about rescheduling and then the solution will be to end the 3pm broadcast blackout - exactly what broadcasters wanted all along!
To be fair though the FA is as much to blame, this blackout window is BS. Get rid and it'll solve half these issues and ill still go to my local teams game and renew my season ticket.
Alan Sugar is to blame. The BBC had the highest bid for the first tv rights. Sugar, as Spurs chairman, was at the meeting and told Sky the amount of the highest bid, around 7m. Sky went back and offered 5 times that. Who got the contract to supply Sky boxes? Sugars Amstrad firm who were on the verge of bankruptcy.
If it's any consolation, his beloved Spurs have never won the PL and continue to be the joke of the entire league season in season out. So there's some karma in that... XD
clubs could just sell tickets for games that have been scheduled, and dont for games that havent, so less likely for people having to change plans, only thing that stops that would be if the game had to be postponed
All I'm really getting from this is abolish the stupid blackout rule already. If fans wouldn't go to the games if they were all televised then god knows how Champions League tickets aren't readily available and the stadium always full.

The problem is the power of the premier league and the fact they don’t give a sh*t about the rest of football. The EFL is weak and we saw that recently when all 4 EFL reps voted with the Premier league to drop FA cup replays. By the way, I don’t recall any clubs playing on a Thursday night and again on Saturday as you claim but correct me if I’m wrong. Sky has got to spread the matches across the available days and hours and it’s never going to suit everyone especially those of us that go to games but overall I think sky does a pretty good job presenting football on tv, way better than any other broadcaster. The EFL clubs need to work together much better than they do now to be in a stronger bargaining position but I can’t see that happening anytime soon either.
Was always the ‘top six’ teams who were shown. Then a rule was made that ‘lesser’ teams had to be shown a set number of times. Guess who they were playing when they were shown, yep, one of the top six.
You can watch 3pm premiere league games all over the world but the UK , you can watch the team you support but not in the UK you have to watch what they show … Sky have destroyed football as we know it , it’s money money money …
This is a short-term boost, if you're a parent with two kids taking them to a live game might make them fans for life.... Put them in front of tv to watch Barrow vs Southend (random examples) will not make them Barrow fans
I never went to any football game last season. The thing is I didn’t even miss it. Saved a shit ton of money and still saw highlights on Match Of The Day and RU-vid. I’ve saved thousands of pounds and I’m not stuck in a strange city late at night 100’s of miles away from home just to watch a match.
We get Danish Superliga live on One Football streaming service in the U.K free bad thing is no commentary just live stream. I am Scottish & we have had many fantastic Danish Football players playing in Scotland in the past. I love all Scandinavia Brøndby is my favourite Danish club. @@cheech9841really it’s a legacy from when football first began appearing on tv with greater frequency. Some of the powers that be were concerned that it would detract from attendances at domestic matches (most of which kicked off at 3pm on a Saturday).
Fans can do something stop giving your club YOUR money, if they are not getting the numbers through the turnstiles and buying refreshments, shirts ect and fans tell them it's because of this some may listen a lot won't I know, but it has got to be worth a try. If nothing happens then more and more sports will come under Sky and other groups control.
How do the people who make the game, which is the supporters who go to games, benefit from any of this? when do we ever benefit from any of the things which go on in football? This new deal will mean a lot more money given to clubs, in return for having games moved from Saturday 3pm to Saturday 8pm, which will make it more expensive for most games away from home, we don't then get something like cheaper tickets, they will only keep going up. This will just mean more money given to players, who are already extremely well paid and overpaid from the point of view of a business model. So, in short, I can watch the same level of football, at inconvenient times and pay more for it, so a player can drive a nicer car and bookies can make more money from live gambling. Fantastic.
The relentless criticism of West Ham fans who have the temerity to complain about David Moyes brand of tedious football has pissed me off no end. Every single pundit rolls out the 'Careful what you wish for" mantra. So, despite having a 60,000 seater stadium and spending 500 Million in 3 seasons, apparently, West Ham fans should be grateful for 27% possession (at home and away); the 2nd oldest squad in the Premiership; the smallest squad and (despite Moyes supposed defensive brilliance) 71 goals conceded this season. 'Careful what you wish for' = feck off. They hate fans.
