Nestled in the heart of the Somerset countryside, lies Maunsel House, a stunning 13th century manor, home to the self-confessed 'eccentric Baronet', Sir Benjamin Julian Alfred Slade, commonly known as 'Ben' to his friends.
Set in a 2000 acre estate, Maunsel House was where Chaucer reputedly wrote some of the Canterbury Tales. Having declined in fortune over the years, Sir Ben bought the house from a relative and today it functions as an exclusive wedding and corporate venue with accommodation both in the main house and around the estate.
Open to guests for "anything and everything", Sir Ben puts the emphasis on having fun, as long as he can be involved. House guests will find a menagerie of hat-wearing, stuffed animals, incorporating everything from black bears to buffalo. Visitors are encouraged to treat the home as their own and they only have to abide by one house rule: Last to bed -- switch off all the lights!
